Round 23 Preview - Claremont v West Perth

Saturday, August 26, 2017 - 12:28 AM - by Chris Pike
CLAREMONT and West Perth both sit outside the WAFL top five entering the final round of the season but the winner on Saturday at Claremont Oval could very well end up playing finals depending on other results. While nothing is guaranteed for whoever it is that ends up winning Saturday's contest to close the home and away season at Claremont Oval, it at least gives them some hope of still playing a final the next week while the season is over for the loser. While what happens at Steel Blue Oval between Swan Districts and East Fremantle, and at Leederville Oval between East Perth and Subiaco will have a big say on what Claremont's clash with West Perth ends up counting for, all the Tigers and Falcons can focus on is winning to get a sniff. IT is the final round of the 2017 WAFL season and it couldn’t possibly be more exciting with four teams remaining genuine chances of claiming the last two places in the top five in order to qualify for the finals. Black continues rapid career path reaching 150 games

Friday, August 25, 2017 - 2:09 PM - by Chris Pike
HAVING had a remarkable run now to 150 games despite being just 24 years of age, West Perth star Aaron Black sees no reason why he can't reach as many as 300 appearances for the Falcons even if it means a break for a season somewhere along the way is needed. Ever since he made his league debut for West Perth in Round 16, 2010 as a 17-year-old, Black has been a permanent member of the Falcons line-up. Initially starting his career in tagging roles and then developing himself into one of the hardest working and running midfielders and wingmen in the competition, the accolades began to come his way as he continued to rack up plenty of games and achievements at a young age. Round 23 Preview - Swan Districts v East Fremantle

Friday, August 25, 2017 - 1:42 PM - by Chris Pike
SWAN Districts needs to snap a three-game losing run to guarantee its WAFL finals place on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval but East Fremantle is not going to hand the black-and-whites anything. Swan Districts has appeared on target to play finals for most of 2017 and was even right in the hunt for a third place finish up until this current three-game losing streak that now has put a finals position altogether in jeopardy somewhat. Swans can put all that to an end with a victory against the Sharks on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval but that's not going to be quite as easy as it sounds. Read More ...

Round 22 – Swan Districts v Claremont Match Report

Monday, August 21, 2017 - 11:25 AM - by Chris Pike
THE WAFL finals race heated up further on Saturday thanks to Claremont keeping its season alive with a 24-point victory against Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval.   The equation was relatively simple coming into Saturday's clash at Steel Blue Oval with a win to book in Swan Districts to play finals in 2017 and ending Claremont's slim hopes in the process.   But it wasn’t to be with Claremont being in control for much of the afternoon and then making up for an inaccurate first half with nine goals to four after half-time to come away with the 13.17 (95) to 11.5 (71) victory. PERTH showed some brilliant fight and character to kick the last 3.5 of the game on Saturday at Lathlain Park to stun East Perth with a five-point victory to end its season on the highest of highs and seriously dent the Royals' finals aspirations.   It was a remarkable finish to the game at Lathlain Park with Perth playing its last match of what has been a forgettable 2017 season.   They looked set to bow out of 2017 with the wooden spoon and a 12-game losing streak as well when trailing by 18 points at the 11-minute mark of the final quarter.
