THERE were just the three matches in Round 15 on Saturday with East Perth closing in on a finals position, Subiaco returning to top of the table and Peel Thunder moving a game clear in second spot from those games.

With Claremont, East Fremantle and West Perth having byes in Round 15 of the 2018 WAFL Colts season, it set the stage for three important matches on Saturday that saw some movement throughout the ladder as a result.

The first match to get the round underway was on Saturday morning at Steel Blue Oval and it was a tight affair, with East Perth ending up beating Swan Districts 7.11 (53) to 7.6 (48) with the Royals now only percentage outside of fifth position.

Then also on Saturday morning, Peel Thunder moved a game clear in second position by beating Perth 14.11 (95) to 7.8 (50) at Lathlain Park.

The final game of Round 15 took place at Leederville Oval later on Saturday afternoon with Subiaco proving too strong for South Fremantle, winning 7.12 (54) to 3.9 (27).

The Round 15 results leave Subiaco (10-3) a game clear now in top position ahead of Peel Thunder (9-4), Swan Districts (8-5) and East Fremantle (8-5).

South Fremantle (5-8) is still clinging to fifth position thanks to percentage ahead of Perth (5-8), East Perth (5-7), West Perth (4-9) and Claremont (4-9).

 

SWAN DISTRICTS v EAST PERTH

The Swan Districts and East Perth colts played out a thrilling contest that was tight all morning at Steel Blue Oval with East Perth ending up winning by five points.

With Swan Districts fighting for a top two finish and East Perth attempting to keep in touch with the top five, there was plenty at stake for both teams as well and little separated them the whole way through.

Scores were tied at quarter-time before East Perth went in at half-time with a one-goal advantage over Swan Districts.

Swans then kicked two goals to one in the third quarter to have tied the scores once again by three quarter-time.

It set up a tense finish to the game and in the end East Perth had eight scoring shots to three for the quarter and while both teams kicked two goals each, that was enough for the Royals to end up winning 7.11 (53) to 7.6 (48).

Rhai-Arn Cox kicked two goals for East Perth from 17 possessions, five marks and four entries inside the forward 50.

Louis Miller racked up 28 possessions for the Royals, Thomas Baulch 19, Jarrod Hamer-Mathew 16, Jacob Msando 16 and Egan Bradbury 10 along with 16 hit outs in the ruck.

Nathan Ireland kicked two goals for Swan Districts from five kicks and eight hit outs.

Brenton Hilton finished with 20 possessions, six tackles and five marks for Swans.

Patrick Farrant also gathered 19 disposals for the black-and-whites, Blake Pescud 16, Jackson Beck 16, Joe Hinder 15, Sebastian Bright 15 (13 tackles), Ethan Nordahl 14 and Malaki Rodoreda 14 (nine tackles.

 

PERTH v PEEL THUNDER

Peel Thunder consolidated its top two position in the colts with a 45-point victory over Perth at Lathlain Park on Saturday morning.

Peel was able to move a game clear in second position on the colts ladder with its strong performance on Saturday morning at Lathlain Park against the Demons.

The Thunder started strong with five goals to two in the opening quarter before then kicking another three majors to two in the second term to head into half-time with a comfortable 31-point advantage.

Peel continued to control the contest in the third quarter with another three goals to one and then ended up coming away with the 14.11 (95) to 7.8 (50) over Perth.

Tyrone Thorne kicked four goals for the Thunder from 16 possessions. Ben Middleton kicked three goals as well for Peel with Lachlan Cullen kicking two also as did Lachlan Riley to go with 22 possessions, seven inside-50 entries and five marks.

Jake Howes ended up collecting 23 possessions for Peel while laying 10 tackles with Jason Carter amassed 23 disposals, seven marks, six inside-50 entries and five tackles.

Brad Oldfield finished with 21 touches for the Thunder, Jarvis Pina 17, Michael Randall 16, Deon Welhan 16. Kyle White also had 33 hit outs in the ruck.

Bailey Smith kicked two goals for Perth as did Mitch McLlheney and Harry Zimmermann.

Luke English produced another impressive performance for the Demons with 30 possessions, five marks and four inside-50 entries.

Sydney Stack also finished with 25 disposals (seven tackles) for Perth, Deven Robertson 21 (12 tackles), Lochie Watkins 19 and Ryan Mally 16 (eight marks).

 

SUBIACO v SOUTH FREMANTLE

Subiaco and South Fremantle's colts played following the league contest at Leederville Oval on Saturday afternoon and into the chilly evening.

The Lions ended up proving too strong to retain top position on the colts ladder even though the Bulldogs remain in fifth position despite the defeat.

Subiaco kicked the only two goals of the first quarter with the daylight stilling hanging in there at Leederville late in the afternoon.

The Bulldogs delivered a more impressive second quarter with two goals to one and it was game on at half-time with the Lions only leading by four points at the long break.

It was all Subiaco in the second half, though, with the Lions kicking two goals to one in the third quarter and they then held the Bulldogs scoreless in the final term.

Subiaco kicked two more goals in the last quarter and then ended up winning 7.12 (54) to 3.9 (27) for their 10th win of the 2018 colts season.

Jack Mayo was a dominant presence up forward for Subiaco having seven shots on goal, converting two of them, and having 16 possessions, seven marks and four tackles.

Nick Martin also kicked two goals for the Lions from 13 possessions and six tackles.

Liam Hickmott racked up 33 possessions for Subiaco to go with eight tackles with Wil Hickmott finishing with 28 disposals, Tristan Hobley 22 (nine tackles, Kyle Stainsby 19 (nine tackles), Luke Foley 19 (11 tackles), Jacob Peletier 18, Zane Shellabear Healey 17 (eight tackles) and Jake McKinnon 16 (nine tackles).

South Fremantle's three goals came courtesy of Lachlan Feeney, Jack Redman and Tom Weston.

Tom Blechynden continued his impressive form for the Bulldogs colts with 32 possessions and six tackles while Matthew Ward had 25 disposals (13 tackles), Jack Musika 22 (12 tackles), James Russell 22, Regan Spooner 19, Enrique Aiken-Featherstone 17 and Brodee Knight 17.
