Proud Bulldog McIntosh reaches 100 in first finals campaign

Saturday, September 9, 2017 - 5:11 PM - by Chris Pike
HAVING to undergo a knee reconstruction and come back from a badly broken ankle have made the journey far from easy and a form slump in 2014 had him doubting himself, but South Fremantle defender Adam McIntosh is proud to reach 100 games as he aims for finals success. McIntosh made his league debut with South Fremantle back in 2011 having had to do a significant apprenticeship to earn that chance under dual premiership coach John Dimmer, but his first stint was short-lived to do a knee injury suffered early in Round 5 against Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval. He was back for the start of 2012 and aside from a stint in the reserves in the back half of 2014 and then missing the second half of 2016 with his horrible broken ankle, McIntosh has cemented himself as one of the most consistent and reliable mid-size defenders in the WAFL. A WAFL Grand Final spot goes on the line on Sunday at Leederville with the dominant team of the past four years Subiaco hosting the reigning premiers Peel Thunder who has won five consecutive finals. It shapes as a fascinating contest whatever way you look at it with Subiaco coming into the game having dominated the home and away season with 19 straight wins before the bye last week. But it was last Saturday when Peel showed it is a genuine chance at back-to-back premierships with a strong 18-point victory over a South Fremantle team who had won nine straight games to finish season. Elimination Final – Swan Districts v West Perth Match Report

Monday, September 4, 2017 - 11:40 AM - by Chris Pike
SWAN Districts had to turn around disappointing form heading into the finals but with the motivation of a 200-game milestone and the retirement of a favourite son, they delivered a terrific performance to beat West Perth by 15 points in front of a big crowd at Steel Blue Oval.   Swan Districts qualified for the AHG WAFL Finals Series in fourth position but had lost four straight games including a 61-point loss to the lowly East Fremantle last Saturday so it was always going to take something special to turn that around on Sunday.   West Perth might not have been in much better form losing seven of 10 games entering the finals too, but the Falcons were a team used to being there come finals time and who appeared better equipped coming into the contest. Qualifying Final - South Fremantle v Peel Thunder Match Report

Monday, September 4, 2017 - 11:02 AM - by Chris Pike
PEEL Thunder has won its fifth straight WAFL final to now be one win from back-to-back grand final appearances after a strong 18-point victory against South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.   South Fremantle came into the qualifying final on home turf at Fremantle Community Bank Oval and on a nine-game winning streak, but slow starts have been the problem for the Bulldogs at different times this season and it was again the case on Saturday.   It wasn’t so much that South Fremantle started slowly this time, but it was the sheer intensity that Peel came out with and their hardness at the contest and pressure they put on the Bulldogs that made life challenging for the home side. THE AHG WAFL Finals Series for 2017 began across the weekend with Peel Thunder sending an ominous message beating South Fremantle by 18 points and then Swan Districts keeping its season alive beating West Perth by 15. The WAFL qualifying final took place on Saturday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval and despite South Fremantle coming into the game on a nine-game winning streak and with home ground advantage, it was Peel who started well and led virtually all day. South Fremantle did briefly hit the front with two quick goals to start the second quarter but from there Peel regained the advantage and never surrendered. Read More ...

Elimination FInal Preview - Swan Districts v West Perth

Sunday, September 3, 2017 - 10:36 AM
FORM goes right out the window on Sunday in the WAFL elimination final when Swan Districts hosts West Perth at Steel Blue Oval. Neither team might be entering the AHG WAFL Finals Series in peak form but that will count for little when their seasons go on the line Sunday at the Bassendean venue. With precious little separating the two teams over the course of the season with both winning 10 games and then Swan Districts only finishing in fourth position with a percentage 1.44 greater than that of West Perth, that says it all about the tightness of the contest that awaits. Falcons focusing on what lies ahead after making WAFL finals

Sunday, September 3, 2017 - 9:59 AM - by Chris Pike
FOR most of 2017 West Perth looked guaranteed of playing in the AHG WAFL Finals Series and while it was hard work needing to beat Claremont last week, the Falcons are now there and looking to make the most of it. West Perth's form might not have been as strong as hoped to close the season, but the fact remains that the Falcons put in such a strong first half of the year to be in a good position and that by winning 10 games they were deserving of a finals spot ahead of East Perth and Claremont. In the end as well it was only just over one per cent that West Perth missed out on hosting this Sunday's elimination final against Swan Districts.  Read More ...
