ROUND 14 of the WAFL Colts season saw Subiaco return to the top of the ladder with a win against Peel Thunder while South Fremantle moved into the top five and consigned Claremont to the bottom position in the process.

Things remain remarkably tight in the colts for 2018 with only one game separating the top four teams Subiaco, Peel Thunder, Swan Districts and East Fremantle.

There's then just the one game separating the other five teams with South Fremantle, Perth, West Perth, East Perth and Claremont fighting over fifth position.

The Round 14 WAFL colts action saw Subiaco move back to top spot at the expense of Peel Thunder, winning 12.8 (80) to 7.11 (53) at Leederville Oval.

East Fremantle also consolidated their place and remained in touch with the top teams beating West Perth 12.12 (84) to 5.11 (41) at East Fremantle Oval.

South Fremantle remains in fifth position on the colts ladder after defeating Claremont 15.13 (103) to 2.9 (21) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday morning.

Then on Sunday at Steel Blue Oval, Swan Districts beat Perth 9.15 (69) to 4.6 (30) with East Perth having the bye.

The Round 14 results leave Subiaco (9-3) on top of the colts ladder ahead of Peel Thunder (8-4), Swan Districts (8-4) and East Fremantle (8-5).

South Fremantle (5-7) sits fifth in front of Perth (5-7), West Perth (4-9), East Perth (4-7) and Claremont (4-9).

SUBIACO v PEEL THUNDER

The Subiaco and Peel colts contest in Round 14 took place on Saturday at Leederville Oval following the league contest on Friday evening and it saw the Lions win by 27 points to move to top spot on the ladder.

Peel did start the game strongly to lead by eight points at quarter-time before Subiaco kicked three goals to one in the second quarter to lead by five points at half-time.

It was another three goals to nil in the third term for Subiaco and they were up by 24 points at the last break before going on to record the 12.8 (80) to 7.11 (53) victory.

Jack Mayo kicked three goals for Subiaco to go with nine kicks and five tackles while Nick Martin booted three goals as well from 17 possessions and six marks. Jordan Faraone also kicked two goals.

Tristan Hobley racked up 28 possessions (six marks, six tackles) for the Lions, Jacob Peletier 24 (seven marks), Liam Hickmott 21 (nine tackles, Madoc Plane 14 (six marks, Sam West 14, Jake McKinnon 14 (five tackles) and Jack McIntosh 14.

Ben Golding was solid in the ruck too for the Lions with 12 disposals, 13 tackles, four marks and four inside-50 entries.

Lachlan Cullen kicked three goals for the Thunder and Ben Middleton two.

James Sturrock collected 25 possessions for Peel, Lachlan Riley 21, Jake Howes 21, Cameron Gavin 21, Jarvis Pina 16 and Jack Sears 15.

 

EAST FREMANTLE v WEST PERTH

East Fremantle's colts further consolidated their position inside the top four by recording a solid 43-point victory against West Perth on Saturday morning at East Fremantle Oval.

East Fremantle started strongly at Shark Park against the Falcons kicking three goals to one in the opening quarter.

The Sharks then added the only four goals of the second term to lead by 38 points at half-time having held West Perth to just the one goal in the entire first half.

It was a much more even contest in the second half but West Perth couldn’t close the gap with East Fremantle ending up with the 12.12 (84) to 5.11 (41) victory.

Conor McPartland kicked four goals for East Fremantle from 16 possessions, eight marks, six tackles and four inside-50 entries. Ethan Brown also kicked two goals.

Milan Murdock amassed 33 possessions while laying 16 tackles in a standout display for East Fremantle.

Corey Robinson also collected 24 disposals for the Sharks, Tom Monaghan 19, Cody Smith 18, Zac Wilkinson 17 and Cameron Davidson 16.

Noah Clune, Nathan Murray, Jamie Dowen, Lachlan Scurria and Ryan Hudson all kicked a goal apiece for West Perth.

Murray finished the morning with 37 possessions as well for the Falcons while Jack Burke collected 21 disposals, Tyron Hindmarsh 21, Alec Johnson 19, Scurria 16, Clune 15, Brayden Templeton 14, Daniel Rowe 13, Jamie Dowen 13 and Brady Alvaro 13.

 

SOUTH FREMANTLE v CLAREMONT

South Fremantle's colts recorded an emphatic win over Claremont on Saturday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the Bulldogs beating the Tigers by 82 points.

South Fremantle came out and kicked the only three goals of the first quarter on a chilly Saturday morning before going on to add the only two goals of the second term to keep Claremont goalless for the entire first half.

The Bulldogs turned things up another gear in the third quarter piling on another seven goals even though the Tigers did manage their first goal of the contest along the way.

South Fremantle kicked another three goals to one in the last term to take out the 15.13 (103) to 2.9 (21) victory.

Lachlan Feeney kicked four goals for South Fremantle from 20 possessions, eight marks, four tackles and four inside-50 entries.

Lachlan Johnson also kicked three goals for the Bulldogs and Tom Weston two.

Tom Blechynden delivered a standout performance for South Fremantle with 34 possessions while Enrique Aiken-Featherstone collected 28 disposals, Jack Musika 27 (10 tackles), Manfred Kelly 25, James Russell 23, Matthew Ward 23, Michael Redman 21, Brodee Knight 20, Toby McQuilkin 18 and Zaine Atwell 18.

Nash Miller played well in the ruck too for the Bulldogs with 17 disposals and 26 hit outs.

Ben Elliott and Liam Henry were the two goal scorers for Claremont with Henry also contributing 20 disposals, nine tackles and five inside 50s.

Jack Monaghan also compiled 19 possessions for the Tigers, Max Grant 19, Nathan Pearce 18, Lewis Henry 17, Oliver Henderson 17, Jamie Forsyth 15, Isaac Barton 15 and Jye Clark 15.

 

SWAN DISTRICTS v PERTH

Swan Districts and Perth's colts teams did battle on Sunday morning at Steel Blue Oval with Swans coming away with a 39-point victory.

Swan Districts kicked two goals to one in the first quarter and then after a goal apiece in the second term, Swans led by nine points at half-time.

Swans had eight scoring shots to three in the third quarter but could only manage two goals from those to lead by just 14 points at three quarter-time.

But the black-and-whites got rolling in the last quarter with the only four goals to run out 9.15 (69) to 4.6 (30) winners.

The win keeps Swan Districts in third position on the colts ladder at 8-4 while Perth is 5-7 in sixth.

Nelson White kicked two goals for Swan Districts to go with 17 possessions and four marks with Matthew Russo booting two goals as well to go with 14 disposals.

Kade Wallrodt racked up 27 possessions for Swans, Jackson Beck 26, Atem Deng 24, Malaki Rodoreda 22, Ethan Nordahl 22, Patrick Farrant 18 and Matthew Germs had 39 hit outs in the ruck.

Trenayne Hodder, Maverick Hamilton, Lachlan Tyson and Jack Bird were the goal scorers for Perth.

Zac Casey was impressive for the Demons finishing with 27 possessions, nine marks and eight tackles.

Hamilton also collected 27 disposals, Regan Clarke 26, Elijah Taylor 20, Nyika John 17 and Blake Simpson 15.
