Round 20 McDonald's WAFL Results

SUBIACO further locked away top spot and South Fremantle consolidated second by winning at unusual home venues in Round 20 of the 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season while Peel Thunder went a long way to guaranteeing a finals berth beating East Perth. All four matches took place on Saturday afternoon with wins for Subiaco, South Fremantle and Peel Thunder all improving their positions inside the top five while Claremont again showed it has been a season of a great missed opportunity with another big win. Kingsway Reserve played host to the third grand final rematch of 2016 and it was Subiaco who dominated kicking 10 of the first 12 goals before winning 12.17 (89) to 5.7 (37) to remain two games and percentage clear on top of the WAFL ladder. Top school footy awards presented

SOUTH Fremantle and Perth head to Carnarvon, Subiaco and West Perth do battle at Kingsway and East Perth and Peel Thunder meet with plenty at stake in what is shaping as a fascinating Round 20 of the 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season. Kingsway Reserve will host the third grand final rematch of 2016 when Subiaco takes on West Perth with the Lions looking to lock in the minor premiership and the Falcons to move closer to a top two finish. WA 200 Club to honour new members

Eagles reward Cup winners

West Coast players took some time out from their Western Derby preparations to present trophies to 2016 Eagles Cup winners on Monday. The Eagles Cup, a joint initiative between the West Coast Eagles, BHP Billiton and the West Australian Football Commission, is WA’s premier inter-school football competition for Years 4-7 students. Thirty schools enjoyed a special visit from Eagles' players, who spent their time presenting trophies, answering questions, signing autographs and posing for photos. WA Country fall short in close battle

It was a close-fought battle at Adelaide Oval where the WA New Holland State Country team clashed with South Australia Country in a curtain raiser to the Adelaide v Essendon AFL game on Sunday, July 31. The WA side showed resilience and determination for the entirety of the match, but South Australia proved to be too strong and ran out winners with a score of 16.16 (112) to WA’s 12.4 (76).   Read More ...


Bulldogs and Demons to clash in Carnarvon

South Fremantle and Perth will play in Carnarvon this weekend as part of the State Government’s Country Sports Enrichment Scheme (CSES). The Round 20 game on Saturday August 6 will kick off at 1.30pm at Carnarvon Festive Grounds and be hosted by the Gascoyne Football Association. The game will be the second WAFL fixture played in the coastal town 900km north of Perth. The previous game on June 23, 2007 saw West Perth 7.15 (57) defeat South Fremantle 8.7 (55). Read More ...


State 15 females showcase talent at National carnival

The West Australian State 15s AFL Female Team battled it out in the National 15s Grand Final after the side secured strong victories in all its matches in the week-long carnival held in Queensland. The team of 24 got off to a good start and thumped New South Wales 8.11 (59) to 2.2 (14) in the opening game of the series on Sunday, July 24 and got another three wins under its belt after the side defeated Queensland-1 Team 9.12 (66) to 1.2 (8), South Australia 7.6 (48) to 1.1(7) and kept Queensland-1 scoreless at Maroochydore Sports Complex - 5.14 (44) to 0.0 (0). SUBIACO, South Fremantle and West Perth ensured they will fight out over the top three WAFL positions over the last month of the season after Round 19 wins on Saturday while Claremont kept the race for fourth and fifth fascinating. The top three teams all scored solid wins with Subiaco defeating Swan Districts 15.18 (108) to 5.4 (34) at Medibank Stadium, South Fremantle beating East Fremantle 14.16 (100) to 10.10 (70) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval and West Perth downing Perth 13.13 (91) to 6.9 (45) at HBF Arena. THE WAFL's top three teams kept winning in Round 19 on Saturday as Subiaco, South Fremantle and West Perth moved further clear of the pack and with Peel Thunder and East Fremantle losing the battle remains on in earnest for fourth and fifth position. Subiaco remained two wins and percentage clear on top of the WAFL ladder beating the bottom placed Swan Districts 15.18 (108) to 5.4 (34) at Medibank Stadium.
