WITH the State Game played and won now it's time for WAFL hostilities to resume this WA Day long weekend with two games on Saturday and two more on the holiday Monday.
The WAFL competition is on a high coming off Saturday's historic 63-point State Game victory over the VFL in Melbourne. It was the first time any WA senior team has defeated Victoria in Melbourne since the first attempt in 1904.
Now the WAFL is back to regular programming this weekend beginning on Saturday with two significant matches.
Peel Thunder will host Subiaco at Bendigo Bank Stadium in a grand final rematch. The reigning premiers Peel will be looking for a third straight win to remain solid in the top five while the league-leading Subiaco is out for a ninth win in succession to remain two games clear on top.
Saturday's other fixtures sees Perth host Swan Districts at Lathlain Park. The Demons are hunting are third win for the season while Swans must win to remain in the top five.
It's then time for the most anticipated day of any WAFL season with the two traditional WA Day derbies.
East Perth will host West Perth in the Perth Derby at Leederville. It will be broadcast live on Channel 7 and shapes as a terrific contest with the Royals having won four straight and the Falcons five in succession.
The round concludes with the WA Day Foundation Derby with East Fremantle taking on South Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval. Both teams come in with losing form with the Sharks winless in eight attempts in 2017 while the second placed Bulldogs lost their past two prior to the State Game.
