Rising stars selected for National AFL Women's Academy

SEVEN West Australian players have received the opportunity to participate in the inaugural NAB AFL Women’s National Academy camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra this week. The seven-day camp includes combine testing, skill sessions, mentoring, a tour of the Australian Defence Force facilities and match-play. The intake of 33 players have received a NAB AFL Women’s National Academy scholarship and will come together for accelerated Australian Football and personal development camps to be held within Australia over a 12-month period. 2017 WAFL Fixtures and Broadcast Schedule

The 2017 McDonald’s WAFL Premiership Season will open with a televised Saturday night blockbuster between East Perth and Peel Thunder live on the Seven Network on March 18, a week prior to the AFL season. The 2017 season will feature 23 rounds in total, with 18 games and the finals series to be televised live on the Seven Network. More than 78% of games have been scheduled in the traditional Saturday afternoon timeslot. Community coaches to receive expert insight

More than 30 WA Community Youth Football coaches will be given the opportunity to further develop their coaching skills alongside WA Football League (WAFL) coaches, Talent Managers and WA Football Commission (WAFC) District Development Staff after they were inducted into the 2017 Coach Academy Program earlier this month. The six-month Coaching Academy Program, developed by the WA Football Commission in partnership with WAFL clubs, will be offered to community coaches in the Perth, East Perth and Swans District areas in January next year. Coaches will buddy up with a mentor for the duration of the program and will take part in a series of professional development sessions that focus on skill development, match-day coaching and club training. Young players from diverse backgrounds representing the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles Next Generation Academies showcased their football talent in front of representatives from the two AFL clubs and all nine WA Football League (WAFL) clubs in Multicultural matches held at East Fremantle Oval on Saturday, 10 December. Ten players will represent Western Australia in the Rio Tinto AFL Flying Boomerangs program in China this week as part of a cultural awareness and leadership development camp. Leading the Boomerangs squad of 25 participants is WA’s Jermaine Davis, the first Western Australian to coach the national team since its formation 10 years ago. Students learn ins and outs of umpiring
