WAFL Elimination Final Results

PEEL Thunder made history at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Sunday winning a WAFL final for the first time defeating East Perth by 49 points with two Royals greats saying farewell in the process. Peel and East Perth did battle in the elimination final in Mandurah and it was the Thunder who proved too strong winning 12.14 (86) to 5.7 (37). The win sees the Thunder advance to next Sunday's first semi-final against West Perth at HBF Arena after winning the club's first ever WAFL final. Read More ...


Thunder through to 1st Semi Final

Peel Thunder proved too good in the Elimination Final at Bendigo Bank Stadium, winning the club's first League final with a 49-point victory over East Perth to progress to next week's 1st Semi Final. Peel will now play West Perth at HBF Arena in the Semi Final on Sunday, September 11 for a chance to progress to the Preliminary Final. Shane Yarran led the way on the scoreboard for Peel with three goals against the Royals, while Matt DeBoer collected 31 possesions, Connor Blakely 25, and Rory O'Brien 23. Read More ...


WAFL Elimination Finals Preview

PEEL Thunder and East Perth have had some fascinating WAFL match ups in recent years and only one will advance following Sunday's elimination final at Bendigo Bank Stadium. The Thunder and Royals are both partnered with WA's AFL clubs Fremantle and West Coast adding extra intrigue to the contest that is a cut-throat affair between the fourth and fifth placed teams from the end of the 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season. WAFL Qualifying Final Results

SOUTH Fremantle might have been playing its first final since 2011 but the Bulldogs delivered an emphatic performance against West Perth winning Saturday's qualifying final by 52 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. The Bulldogs have qualified for the first time since 2011 and won their first finals match since the 2009 grand final on Saturday proving too good for the Falcons on their home deck. South Fremantle made a blistering start kicking five goals in the opening 12 minutes with Blaine Johnson and Mason Shaw on fire combining for four of those. Read More ...


Bulldogs through to 2nd Semi Final

South Fremantle has progressed to the 2nd Semi Final against Subiaco at Medibank Stadium next Sunday, September 11 after defeating West Perth in today's Qualifying Final. The Bulldogs came out firing at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, kicking the first five goals of the game and dominating the third quarter with seven goals to one to set up a convincing 52-point win. Mason Shaw and Ben Saunders kicked four goals each for South Fremantle to spearhead the win, while Brendan Verrier (30 disposals), Ashton Hams (27), Dylan Main (27) Matthew Gundry (25) and Tim Kelly (25) were the leading possession getters. Thunder want historic finals win before looking further

PEEL Thunder look set to enter Sunday's WAFL elimination final with 18 Fremantle players available for selection but coach Cam Shepherd knows the team has to focus on the job at hand against East Perth and avoid looking beyond that. The Thunder have now qualified for a second straight WAFL finals series after making it for the first time in 2015 before losing in the qualifying final to West Perth at HBF Arena and then to East Perth in the first semi-final at Bendigo Bank Stadium. Payne, Blee likely set for key roles in show of Royals' depth

NATHAN Blee and Steven Payne have been two of East Perth's best and most consistent performers in recent years and now with the Royals to be missing a host of West Coast players they will be again called upon in Sunday's elimination final against Peel Thunder. With West Coast to take on the Western Bulldogs in an AFL elimination final on Thursday night at Domain Stadium, any of the Eagles players qualified for finals with East Perth likely won't play. That looks set to include the likes of Mitch Brown, Jackson Nelson and Jack Redden who all played in last Saturday's win over East Fremantle that qualified the Royals for a fifth straight finals appearance. WEST Perth welcomes back Shane Nelson, Dean Munns, Tyler Keitel and Steve Potente for Saturday's WAFL qualifying final against South Fremantle and coach Bill Monaghan hopes the Falcons finals experience can be used as a positive. The Falcons finished the home and away season winning 12 of their last 15 games following a 1-4 start to end up in third position to book a qualifying final berth against the Bulldogs this Saturday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. THE 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season is now over with the AHG Finals Series beginning this weekend and the WAFL has announced its Team of the Year for 2016. After each and every week of the season, a WAFL Team of the Week has been selected and named at www.wafl.com.au. Now based on the selection of those sides over the 23 rounds, a Team of the Year has been selected and named. Ben Saunders wins third Bernie Naylor Medal in five years

SOUTH Fremantle full-forward Ben Saunders kicked four goals in the final round of the 2016 WAFL Premiership Season to secure his third Bernie Naylor Medal of the past five years since he joined the Bulldogs. Saunders came into South Fremantle's clash with Perth needing three more goals to join Subiaco's Hamish Shepheard on 51, or four to overtake the Lions spearhead who was sitting out with his club having the bye. Saunders ended up kicking two goals in the first quarter and a third in the second to draw level with Shepheard on 51 as South Fremantle delivered an 11- goal to nil first half. Read More ...
