McDonald's WAFL Round 19 Preview

ALL four Round 19 matches of the McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season take place on Saturday with a crucial Fremantle derby beginning proceedings before West Perth and Peel Thunder have chances to further consolidate their finals positions. The round gets underway with the second placed South Fremantle playing the sixth placed East Fremantle in the final derby of 2016 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. The game begins at 11.40am and will be live on 7mate. Then later on Saturday afternoon, West Perth looks to close in further on a top two position taking on Perth at HBF Arena while Peel Thunder plays Claremont at Bendigo Bank Stadium and the top placed Subiaco faces the bottom placed Swan Districts at Medibank Stadium. Thursday night a winner all round for top placed Lions

SUBIACO enjoyed Thursday night football last week beating South Fremantle at Medibank Stadium to move two games clear on top of the WAFL ladder and doing so while making do in the ruck with a young star shining up forward and veterans leading through the middle. The top two teams did battle last Thursday night as the Lions hosted the Bulldogs in a third night fixture on a Thursday between the two clubs this decade, but it was the first televised live on 7mate. It turned out to be a ratings hit and a crowd of 1441 was also impressive considering the terribly wet, cold and windy conditions. It was a win-win for the WAFL in the Thursday night experiment and for Subiaco it looks set to go a long way to securing another minor premiership. Read More ...


Broadbridge not to continue after three years of Tigers teasing success

DEMANDS on his time have meant Michael Broadbridge has decided to not continue on as Claremont coach in 2017 following a three years where the Tigers' best has been impressive, but ultimately they will be left feeling unfulfilled. Broadbridge took over as Claremont coach following a four-year run under Simon McPhee and then Marc Webb that brought about four consecutive minor premierships, three grand finals, two premierships and a preliminary final. SUBIACO moved clear on top of the WAFL with a Thursday night victory while Peel Thunder, East Perth and East Fremantle all won on Saturday to keep the battle for the final two top five positions a race in three. Round 18 of the 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season got underway on Thursday night at Medibank Stadium with Subiaco defeating South Fremantle 10.9 (69) to 9.4 (58) in a battle of the top two teams. Then on Saturday afternoon, Peel Thunder beat 10.12 (72) to 9.7 (61) in Cunderdin, East Perth defeated Claremont 9.6 (60) to 7.10 (52) at the Claremont Showground and East Fremantle downed Swan Districts 13.13 (91) to 11.7 (73) at Steel Blue Oval. PEEL Thunder, East Perth and East Fremantle all did what they needed to in beating lower ranked opponents in Round 18 WAFL action on Saturday with the three clubs continuing to fight over the last two finals positions. Round 18 of the 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season began on Thursday night as the top two teams did battle with Subiaco defeating South Fremantle 10.9 (69) to 9.4 (58) at Medibank Stadium to see the Lions move two wins clear on top of the ladder. With Subiaco, South Fremantle and West Perth appearing clear in the top three positions, that leaves Peel Thunder, East Perth and East Fremantle fighting over the remaining two spots inside the top five. ROUND 18 of the 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season concludes on Saturday with three matches with East Perth, Peel Thunder, East Fremantle and even Perth continuing to fight over the remaining two up for grabs finals positions. Round 18 got underway on Thursday night with a battle of the top two teams that saw Subiaco defeat South Fremantle 10.9 (69) to 9.4 (58) at Medibank Stadium. That leads into Saturday afternoon's action with Claremont taking on East Perth at the Claremont Showground, Perth facing Peel Thunder in Cunderdin and Swan Districts playing East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval. Wins for Peel and East Perth and they will move a step towards guaranteeing another finals appearance in 2016 while East Fremantle and Perth will keep their hopes alive with victories as well.
