WAFL Round 2 match reports

PEEL Thunder and Swan Districts remained unbeaten with WAFL Round 2 victories on Saturday while Subiaco got its first win on the board as well overcoming Perth. Three of the four WAFL Round 2 matches took place on Saturday with Peel Thunder unfurling its premiership flag and scoring a seventh straight victory beating East Fremantle 19.12 (126) to 5.10 (40) at Bendigo Bank Stadium. Swan Districts also won its second straight match to open 2017 beating South Fremantle 13.7 (85) to 8.16 (64) at Steel Blue Oval. Round 2 – Peel Thunder v East Fremantle Match Report

PEEL Thunder has continued the impressive start to its WAFL premiership defence with a thumping 86-point win over East Fremantle at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday. On the day the club unfurled its first premiership flag in front of the Mandurah faithful following the triumph in 2016, the Thunder showed that they are far from content with that achievement and are shooting for back-to-back successes this year. WA women named All-Australians

Four West Australians have been named in the inaugural Virgin Australia AFL Women's All Australian team on Tuesday night at the W Awards. Chelsea Randall (Swan Districts / Adelaide), Emma King (Coastal Titans / Collingwood), Kara Donnellan (Swan Districts / Fremantle) and Sabrina Frederick-Traub (South Fremantle / Brisbane) were among the final 22 players announced and recognised for their individual performances during the inaugural NAB AFL Women’s Competition. Round 2 Preview - West Perth v East Perth

WEST Perth has had an extra week's wait to open the 2017 WAFL season and now the Falcons get underway with a derby against East Perth at HBF Arena with the Polly Farmer Shield on the line on Sunday. West Perth had the opening round bye to prepare for the derby to start its season in 2017 on the back of another finals appearance in 2016. East Perth, meanwhile, also played finals in 2016 and started the season last Saturday night with a 17-point defeat at the hands of Peel Thunder at Leederville Oval. Read More ...


Round 2 Preview - Subiaco v Perth

SUBIACO and Perth both suffered opening round losses to start the 2017 WAFL season as they prepare to do battle in a twilight fixture at Leederville Oval on Saturday. Coming off playing in the previous three WAFL grand finals, Subiaco fell short in Round 1 last Saturday losing to South Fremantle by 39 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. Round 2 Preview - Swan Districts v South Fremantle

SWAN Districts and South Fremantle both made winning starts to their 2017 WAFL seasons last Saturday and will be looking to continue that momentum on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval. Swans had a disastrous season in 2016 but is already halfway to reaching that win tally following last week's 12-point win over Perth at Steel Blue Oval. South Fremantle had a much better 2016 and played finals for the first time since 2011, and won its first final since the 2009 grand final, and backed that up with a supremely impressive Round 1 win over Subiaco by 39 points last Saturday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. PEEL Thunder plays its first home game since winning last year's WAFL premiership taking on East Fremantle at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday. Peel will unfurl the club's first ever league premiership flag before the game on Saturday in what will be their first home match since beating Subiaco in last year's Grand Final. It will be a memorable day for the Thunder and the Mandurah community but East Fremantle will be looking to spoil the celebrations and bounce back from a disappointing Round 1 performance. FOLLOWING a terrific opening to the 2017 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season, it's Round 2 this weekend with three games on Saturday afternoon and then the Perth derby for the Polly Farmer Shield on Sunday. After Claremont, Swan Districts, South Fremantle and Peel Thunder made winning starts to their seasons last week, it's now time for the second round of the season with four fascinating match ups. It gets underway on Saturday afternoon with two games at 2.15pm with Swan Districts taking on South Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval and Peel Thunder hosting East Fremantle at Bendigo Bank Stadium. Falcons great Harris feeling at home at Tigerland already

AS a great of the West Perth Football Club, Darren Harris was unsure about coaching another WAFL club before accepting the role at Claremont but he already feels at home with the Tigers. Harris arrived at West Perth in 1992 from the Wodonga Bulldogs in the Ovens & Murray Football League and made an immediate, and lasting impact. He went on to play 109 games with the Falcons over the next five seasons and in 1995, he had a year that only dreams are made of.  Read More ...


WAFL rivals compete for Polly Farmer Shield

WAFL rivals East Perth Football Club and West Perth Football Club will compete for the annual Polly Farmer Shield this Sunday, March 16 at HBF Arena to recognise and celebrate Farmer’s success as one of the greatest players at each club. The clash will be live on 7Mate from 1.30pm. WAFL General Manager Steve Hargrave said the Polly Farmer Shield is a fitting tribute to the WA Football and Australian Football Hall of Fame Legend. Outstanding contribution to WA Football recognised

In recognition of her amazing contribution to the WA football industry, East Fremantle Football Club in conjunction with the West Coast Eagles, made a special presentation to Judi Miles on Saturday at the East Fremantle President’s Lunch. Judi, a mad-keen West Coast Eagles supporter, will be flown to Melbourne for the ANZAC Day weekend. Travelling with the playing group, Judi will stay at the team hotel and attend the VIP lunch at the MCG on Saturday April 22, before heading to the Hawthorn vs West Coast game. Read More ...


Round 1 Reserves and Colts Wrap

ROUND 1 of the 2017 WAFL season on Saturday saw plenty of strong performances across the Reserves and RediMed Colts fixtures. Saturday's reserves fixtures saw East Fremantle defeat Claremont 15.9 (99); East Perth beat Peel Thunder 20.14 (134) to 8.8 (56); Subiaco down South Fremantle in a thriller 9.12 (66) to 9.11 (65) and Perth prevail over Swan Districts 16.5 (101) to 8.3 (51). And in the RediMed Colts, East Fremantle beat Claremont 6.16 (52) to 7.3 (45); Peel Thunder downed East Perth 13.13 (91) to 6.7 (43); South Fremantle defeated Subiaco 9.6 (60) to 7.7 (49) and Swan Districts won over Perth 6.18 (54) to 4.3 (27). The Saturday action saw Swan Districts defeat Perth 12.11 (83) to 11.5 (71); Claremont beat East Fremantle 19.9 (123) to 9.7 (61); South Fremantle down Subiaco 17.14 (116) to 11.11 (77) and Peel Thunder prevail over East Perth 7.11 (53) to 4.12 (36).
