PEEL Thunder might have narrowly missed moving to the top of the WAFL ladder but Sunday's 27-point win over Claremont at Bendigo Bank Stadium continued their best ever start to a season. The WAFL's Anzac Round began on Saturday with East Perth recording a thumping 20.18 (138) to 5.5 (35) win over Perth at Lathlain Park and it was another standalone fixture on Sunday which saw Peel win its fourth straight match downing Claremont 16.12 (108) to 11.15 (81) in Mandurah. The Anzac Round in the WAFL will now conclude with two massive fixtures on Monday that sees West Perth take on Swan Districts at Joondalup's HBF Arena and then South Fremantle play East Fremantle at Fremantle Oval in the first Fremantle derby of 2015. EAST Perth needed to find goals from somewhere on Anzac Day against Perth at Lathlain Park but not even coach Brian Dawson would have been expecting seven of them from reliable defender Kyle Anderson in the 103-point win. With West Coast short on defenders in the AFL, the Eagles are looking for readymade replacements from East Perth and that meant that Callum Sinclair, Dylan Main, Paddy Brophy and Tom Barrass all played in the Royals' back-line against Perth on Anzac Day. PEEL Thunder has a chance to make history by winning four straight matches for the first time ever and potentially jumping to the top of the WAFL, but coach Cam Shepherd isn’t taking Kepler Bradley and the winless Tigers lightly on Sunday at Bendigo Bank Stadium. Peel lost its first game of the season narrowly to West Perth at HBF Arena but has since recorded impressive wins over East Fremantle, Perth and East Perth to be on a three-game winning streak for just the third time in the club's history and first since 2009. AS an AFL SportsReady trainee at the West Australian Football Commission, Bella Ndayikeze has played a key role in community engagement programs with her infectious enthusiasm. Originally from Burundi in Africa, Bella spent time in refugee camps before arriving in Australia as a seven-year-old. Her first experience with Australian Rules football was through the Edmund Rice Centre, where she embraced the opportunity to play Australia’s game and is now a member of the centre’s Youth Leadership group. PERTH finally got its first win on the board in almost 12 months last Saturday and now Demons coach Earl Spalding has his team primed to try and make it two in-a-row with a group of youngsters finding their feet and new arrivals fitting in nicely at their new home. Spalding never hid from the fact that taking over as coach of Perth at the end of a 2014 season that saw the Demons finish with the wooden spoon and on a 14-game losing streak was never going to be easy, and his job was to virtually build the club from scratch at league level. When he also took charge of a team that lost a host of its best and most experienced players including Paul Bevan, Cale Morton, Jared Risol, Nick Kane, Haydn Busher and Gerald Ugle, his job got that little bit harder. ROUND 5 of the 2015 WAFL season saw four Subiaco premiership players combine for 21 goals, but not all of them were for the Lions with the action seeing not only the reigning premiers but also East Fremantle, Peel Thunder and Perth record impressive victories. All four Round 5 matches took place on Saturday afternoon starting with Peel Thunder recording a third straight victory spoiling the 250th game milestone of Craig Wulff beating East Perth 9.16 (60) to 7.5 (47) at Leederville's Medibank Stadium. Subiaco then moved to the top of the ladder thrashing South Fremantle 24.13 (157) to 10.8 (68) at Fremantle Oval while East Fremantle beat Swan Districts 16.7 (103) to 10.12 (72) at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval. And finally Perth won its first game since Round 7 last year ending an 18-game losing run by beating the now winless in 2015 Claremont 11.9 (75) to 10.6 (66) at the Claremont Showground. West Australian Emma King was selected by the Western Bulldogs with the first pick at the 2015 AFL Women’s Draft as one of three WA players chosen in the top five and a total of 15 selected to compete in this year’s AFL Women’s Exhibition Matches.
