McDonald's WAFL NAIDOC Round Preview

THE WAFL celebrates the annual NAIDOC Round this Saturday with all four matches seeing the teams wear specially designed jumpers for the occasion and with plenty at stake in each of the contests. Claremont and South Fremantle were the teams to start the NAIDOC Week tradition and both are in the hunt for a spot in the top five when they clash at the Claremont Showground. The Medibank Stadium co-tenants East Perth and Subiaco also do battle with Peel Thunder playing East Fremantle at Bendigo Bank Stadium, and Perth hosting West Perth at Lathlain Park. The WAFL has celebrated a NAIDOC themed round now every year since 2009 to celebrate the contribution of Aboriginal footballers to the game, and again this Saturday all eight competing teams will wear specially designed jumpers while playing with a Burley football featuring Aboriginal artwork. NAIDOC Round at the WAFL

The West Australian Football League, in partnership with the Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Department of Sport and Recreation, will celebrate the significance of Aboriginal players when WAFL NAIDOC Round is held this Saturday, July 11. All WAFL clubs playing in the Round will wear uniforms specially designed to represent the heritage of the clubs and their Aboriginal players.   This year a special NAIDOC football, pictured, will also be used for NAIDOC Round games. WAFL Top 5 Finals format

An exciting change for the 2015 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season is the return to a Top 5 finals system that will create an additional round of finals and give all nine clubs extra incentive to finish the season as strongly as possible. The WAFL clubs voted last year to introduce a top five in 2015, and with one of the closest seasons in WAFL history currently underway, the top 5 on the ladder may not be finalised until the eve of the finals. Round 15 McDonald's WAFL Wrap Up

THERE were just the two WAFL matches that made up Round 15 of the season on Saturday afternoon with Subiaco and Swan Districts recording victories over Peel Thunder and East Perth respectively. Swan Districts improved to third position on the ladder with a thrilling four-point victory over East Perth at Steel Blue Oval, 9.10 (64) to 8.12 (60) while Subiaco proved too good for Peel Thunder winning 15.9 (99) to 6.8 (44) at Medibank Stadium. The round's results leave Subiaco (11-2) three games clear on top of the ladder ahead of West Perth (8-4), Swan Districts (7-7), Peel Thunder (7-6) and South Fremantle (7-6). Then outside of the top five are Claremont (6-6), East Perth (6-7), East Fremantle (5-8) and Perth (1-12). Read More ...

Round 15 McDonald's WAFL Results

THE tightness of the WAFL competition was again on show on Saturday with Swan Districts beating East Perth in a thriller by four points to move from outside the top five into third position, while Subiaco beat Peel to return a three-game advantage on top of the ladder. There were just the two WAFL matches in Round 15 on Saturday afternoon and that saw Swan Districts win a four-point nail-biter of East Perth 9.10 (64) to 8.12 (60) at Steel Blue Oval. And at Medibank Stadium, Subiaco proved too good for Peel Thunder winning 15.9 (99) to 6.8 (44) with the Lions returning to a three-game lead on top of the ladder while the Thunder weren’t able to continue their winning form. McDonald's WAFL Round 15 Preview

THERE are just the two WAFL matches as part of Round 15 of the 2015 season but both will have a significant impact on the top five as one clash pits two teams against one another trying to break into a finals place, and the other featuring first against third on the ladder. Swan Districts will take on East Perth at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval at 2.15pm with both teams needing a win to return to the top five as the race for finals positions heats up. Then at 2.40pm, the league-leading Subiaco hosts the third-placed Peel Thunder at Leederville's Medibank Stadium in what looms as a fascinating contest. Read More ...

The WAFL State 16s commence their 2015 NAB AFL National 16s Championship campaign tomorrow at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast. The squad will play three games over the next week against Victoria Country, South Australia and Victoria Metro. WA State 18s have solid finish in loss to Vic Country

WESTERN Australia put in a competitive showing to finish the 2015 NAB AFL National 18s Championships but ended up falling 32 points short of the unbeaten Victoria Country. Vic Country won its sixth match of the National 18s Championships as they claimed the Division 1 title for 2015 but WA put in a much more competitive showing than the 105-point loss in Perth against them last time. Vic Country still ended up winning 8.15 (63) to 4.7 (31) at Geelong's Simonds Stadium but WA did well outscoring them three goals to one in the second half to close a 42-point half-time deficit to 32 by the final siren. Round 14 McDonald's WAFL Wrap Up

WEST Perth capped off a big day at HBF Arena on Saturday beating the league-leading Subiaco while Peel Thunder, South Fremantle and Claremont all recorded victories as well to improve their positions on the ladder. West Perth ended Subiaco's eight-match winning streak in front of 7789 people at HBF Arena on Saturday with an 8.7 (55) to 5.15 (45) victory as the Falcons hosted the International Football Festival. Peel Thunder also improved to third position beating Perth 17.16 (118) to 8.8 (56) at Bendigo Bank Stadium and South Fremantle moved to fourth winning a 12.10 (82) to 12.8 (80) over Swan Districts at Fremantle Oval. Claremont then had a convincing 14.9 (93) to 3.7 (25) win over East Fremantle at ATOM Stadium to return to the top five after Round 14. Read More ...
