Newly appointed WAFC CEO Gavin Taylor fronts mediaWednesday, April 13, 2016 - 1:31 PM

Gavin Taylor has been formally appointed as the new Chief Executive of the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) after an extensive recruitment process.

Gavin is currently the Interim Chief Executive Officer, WAFC, and was previously in charge of the organisation’s stadium operations division, Perth Stadium Management as General Manager. He has held senior roles at the WAFC for the past six years.

WAFC Chairman Murray McHenry said the appointment of Mr Taylor ensured the organisation had a dynamic and strategic leader with a sound understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Football.

“We look forward to Gavin helping the Commissioners guide the WAFC through a period of substantial change that will ultimately see us focusing solely on running and developing Football throughout Western Australia, as our role in managing the state’s major stadium comes to an end,” Mr McHenry said.

“Our primary goal is to see the State’s largest sporting code continue to grow in the years ahead and retain the financial strength necessary to ensure anyone who wants to play or participate in Football has an opportunity to do so.”

Mr Taylor said that he was pleased to be leading the WAFC during a period that would set the future direction for the sport through new funding structures; establishing a new home; extending local broadcast arrangements; ensuring WA is competitive in national competitions; and continuing strong growth in areas such as Auskick, women’s competitions and multicultural participation.

“I believe that Football is an essential part of the fabric of our community and we have huge opportunities to involve more people in the game and make an even greater contribution to Western Australia. I look forward to working in partnership with all WA Football stakeholders to ensure that football remains healthy both on and off the field and to provide a sustainable future for this great game,” said Mr Taylor.

More than 220,000 West Australians are active participants in Football and approximately 700,000 people engage with the game as either players or fans.

As General Manager, Perth Stadium Management, Gavin recorded a number of achievements for the WAFC since 2010, including setting record attendance of more than 1.13 million people last year via the biggest and most diverse event schedule on record; and helping establish then lead the strategic alliance between Delaware North Companies Australia, Ticketmaster, Live Nation and the West Australian Football Commission.

Gavin was also recognised for developing a strong service excellence culture which resulted in Domain Stadium being awarded the first international customer service accreditation for an Australian stadium; whilst also introducing internationally certified best practise systems, processes and staff development activities that have since been recognised via a number of national and WA business awards.
