WA claim third place at Youth Girls National Championships

WESTERN Australia finished its 2015 AFL Youth Girls National Championships with a second straight win over Victoria Country on Friday at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah, Western Australia. After losing its opening two games of the Youth Girls National Championships as defending champions, WA finished on a high beating Vic Country both on Thursday and then again on Friday to end up finishing in third position in Pool A for the week. Defending champions claim first win

WESTERN Australia  won its first game of the 2015 AFL Youth Girls National Championships, with the defending champions beating Victoria Metro by 24 points to conclude Day 3 at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah, Western Australia. Both WA and Vic Country had lost their opening two matches of the Youth Girls National Championships to Vic Metro and Queensland respectively, and it was the defending champions and hosts who prevailed 6.2 (38) to 2.2 (14) to close proceedings on Thursday. Jetta ready to help Thunder bounce back against Lions

CAM Shepherd was a major reason why Leroy Jetta joined Peel Thunder in 2015 on return from Essendon, but now he has heard exactly what the coach thought of their loss to Swan Districts and that has him and his teammates desperate to bounce back against Subiaco. Shepherd was on the front foot about recruiting Jetta to join Peel this season after spending the last eight years at Essendon where he played 93 AFL matches. This weekend all WA footballers, coaches, runners and volunteers from Year Eight and onwards will wear blue armbands to promote the importance of mental health and wellbeing and raise awareness about suicide prevention. Every year suicide accounts for 32 percent of deaths among males aged between 15 and 24. The main message of the One Life Round is that it's ok to talk; to your coaches, parents, team mates or to a counsellor, if something is wrong. Read More ...


Browne wants plenty more despite reaching 100 games at West Perth

STEVEN Browne was proud to reach 100 games with West Perth and has already played in a WAFL premiership, in the AFL and State football but he is far from content that he has achieved everything his career has to offer. Browne played in his 100th match in last Saturday's loss to Claremont at the Showground as he booked his name on the No. 7 locker West Perth Football Club and it's another notch on a terrific career already from the 26-year-old. Browne began his career with West Perth in 2007 playing six league matches and impressing sufficiently to get drafted by Carlton and in three years with the Blues, he played 23 AFL matches before then returning to the Falcons in 2011. 2015 Carlton Draught WAFL State Squad

AN initial squad has been announced for the 2015 WAFL v SANFL game on Saturday, May 23. The game will be played at 2.15pm at Lathlain Park. A curtain raiser between the WAFL and SANFL State 18s will be played at 11.20am. Players will be added and removed from the State Squad based on form and fitness in the lead-up to the game. QUEENSLAND won its second straight match and handed Western Australia a second consecutive loss to conclude Day 2 of the 2015 AFL Youth Girls National Championships at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah, Western Australia. Concussion Awareness Research

The West Australian Football Commission, in conjunction with Murdoch University, is currently undertaking research and is seeking assistance in completing two short online surveys. The surveys will assist the WAFC in understanding the current concussion awareness levels of Youth footballers and their Parents. In considering the best practice management of concussion in sport, the critical element remains the welfare of the player, both in the short and long term, and this study will assist us in understanding the current situation and help identify areas of improvement in the ongoing management of concussion. Round 7 McDonald's WAFL Wrap Up

THE youngsters of Swan Districts and South Fremantle both helped lead their teams to bounce back victories in Round 7 of the WAFL on Saturday while Claremont got its first win on the board of the season and Subiaco extended its lead atop the ladder. Swan Districts recorded a terrific 18.16 (124) to 11.11 (77) victory at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval over a Peel Thunder team that was on the back of a four-game winning streak for the first time in the club's history. South Fremantle started its season with three straight wins, then lost the next three coming into Saturday's clash with East Perth at Medibank Stadium. Like Swans, the Bulldogs had just a five-day break to try and bounce back from and did so impressively beating the Royals 11.16 (82) to 10.9 (69). Subiaco moved a game clear on top of the ladder with an 8.15 (63) to 3.9 (27) win over Perth at Lathlain Park while Claremont got its first win of the season beating West Perth 12.11 (83) to 8.15 (63) at the Claremont Showground. Victoria Metro pulled off a terrific comeback to defeat defending champions Western Australia by 10 points on day one of the 2015 AFL Youth Girls National Championships in Mandurah, Western Australia today.
