SOUTH Fremantle scored the biggest win of the WAFL season to remain unbeaten to open Round 5 on Saturday with Claremont bouncing back and East Perth winning a second consecutive match.
Three of the four Round 5 matches took place on Saturday afternoon with South Fremantle improving to a 4-0 record with a 21.10 (136) to 4.14 (38) victory over Perth at Lathlain Park.
Then in the opening derby of 2016, East Perth kicked 10 goals to one in the second half to beat West Perth 14.16 (100) to 6.4 (40) at Medibank Stadium.
And after inaccuracy cost Claremont dearly last Sunday against Swan Districts, the Tigers answered back emphatically kicking 19.2 (116) to defeat East Fremantle who scored 11.11 (77) at ATOM Stadium.
South Fremantle was coming off the Round 3 bye but suffered no halt in momentum beating Perth by 98 points to return to the top of the WAFL ladder, at least until Subiaco plays Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday.
It took nine minutes for the first score but that was a South Fremantle goal to Mason Shaw and the Bulldogs then kicked five more in the next eight minutes. The Bulldogs then booted 7.4 (46) to nothing in the first quarter to set up the win.
Perth scored with a rushed behind a minute into the second quarter and got a goal 12 minutes in to ruckman Angus Graham. But South Fremantle kicked the last two goals of the first half to lead by 49 points at the break.
Then after a couple of goals to Perth early in the second half, South Fremantle asserted its authority again kicking the next nine goals, and 10 of the last 11 of the game to win by 98 points.
Shaw played his best game of the season for the Bulldogs booting five goals from 21 possessions and nine marks while Ryan Cook, Ben Saunders, Blaine Johnson, Steven Edwards, Brendan Verrier and Steven Verrier all kicked two.

It was a tough day for Perth kicking 4.14 just six days after booting 4.19 against Subiaco.
Julian Jacobs gathered 31 possessions, Clint Jones 29, Aidan Tropiano 22 and Michael Sinclair 19 while Aaron Zucconi battled hard in defence holding Saunders to three kicks and two goals.
East Perth and West Perth battled for a grand final berth last year in the preliminary final, but on Saturday they were battling over avoiding a 1-4 start to 2016.
And it was a tight tussle in the first half with the Royals leading by just the one-point at the main break. But East Perth then kicked the first nine goals of the second half and 10 of the 11 all up to win by 60 points.
Jonathan Giles and Craig Wulff provided a lively tall and small option in attack each for East Perth and both kicked three goals with Patrick McGinnity also booting two to go with 27 possessions.
Steven Payne also racked up 30 disposals for the Royals in his 99th WAFL appearance while Kane Lucas had 29 possessions, Julian Ameduri 28, Tom Cole 27, Paddy Brophy 26, Luke Partington 23, Nathan Blee 23 and Mitch Fraser 22.
Andrew Strijk overcame a leg injury from last week to rack up 35 possessions in a brave effort for West Perth while Aaron Black continued his outstanding start to 2016 with another 29 disposals and two goals.
Steven Browne also finished with 26 touches for the Falcons, Rohan Kerr 21, Trent Manzone 21 and debutant Mitch Peirce 20.
Claremont had five days to stew over the missed opportunities against Swan Districts last Sunday and the Tigers took that all out on East Fremantle on Saturday.
The Tigers kicked 10 goals without a miss in the first half to set up the eventual win over the Sharks. Nailing nine of 11 shots again in the second half saw Claremont beat an East Fremantle side that had one more scoring shot by 39 points.

Mitch Andrews dominated the ruck with 17 touches and 35 hit outs while Tom Ledger gathered 28 possessions, Jake Murphy 27, Jye Bolton 24, Jared Hardisty 21 and Ryan Neates 21.
