McDonald's WAFL Round 8 Preview

ROUND 8 of the 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season is One Life Round and it presents four fascinating match ups with West Perth and Peel shooting for a third straight win, East Fremantle trying to challenge Subiaco, South Fremantle and Claremont looking to bounce back, and Perth and Swan Districts just desperate for four points. All four One Life Round matches are on Saturday afternoon with three of them at 2.15pm and the 7mate broadcast fixture between Perth and Swan Districts to bounce down at 2.40pm at Lathlain Park. West Perth will host Peel Thunder at HBF Arena with both teams on two-game winning streaks while Claremont will play its first game of the season at the Showground hosting South Fremantle. WA Football's One Life Round

Players across Western Australia from Year 8 and above will be provided with blue armbands this weekend for WA Football’s One Life Round. One Life is a West Australian initiative to strengthen families, communities and workplaces, improve mental health and build resilience to prevent suicide. The West Australian Football Commission’s (WAFC) partnership with One Life will use the blue arm bands and football as a vehicle to raise awareness of mental health and suicide prevention and reduce the stigma associated with discussing these topics. Mundijong Centrals successfully launch female football

The Mundijong Centrals Junior Football Club celebrated on Sunday, May 1 when two all-girls teams took to the field at Mundijong Oval for the first time in the club's history.  After a successful launch in February, the club was inundated with enquiries and registrations from girls aged 8 to 16 and nominated two teams in season 2016, one each in the U12 junior girls and U15 youth girls competitions. Tracey Rafferty, the clubs Female Football Co-ordinator and Registrar, credits the success of the launch to the enormous amount of support received from the West Australian Football Commission, Female Football Ambassadors Mikella Johnson and Hayley Miller, and the South Fremantle Women’s Football Club.   Read More ...

South Fremantle defeated Subiaco 15.13 (103) to 6.13 (95) in Round 7 of the RediMed Colts while Peel Thunder fell 40-point short to Perth at Bendigo Bank Stadium. Round 7 McDonald's WAFL Wrap Up

ROUND 7 of the 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season saw Subiaco assert itself as the only remaining undefeated team while Peel Thunder, West Perth and East Fremantle scored impressive victories. The round began with three matches on Saturday afternoon highlighted by the clash of the unbeaten teams South Fremantle and Subiaco at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. Despite the Bulldogs closing to within two points early in the last quarter, the Lions kicked away to win 15.16 (106) to 10.15 (75). Peel Thunder also won comfortably 19.9 (123) to 7.4 (46) over Perth at Bendigo Bank Stadium and West Perth prevailing in a thriller over Claremont in Kulin 15.11 (101) to 15.4 (94). Umpiring Masterplan

The umpiring masterplan was formulated this season to provide all Umpires and  Umpire coaches with a consistent platform to use in the delivery of positive umpiring. WAFC Umpire Development Manager Dean Margetts said that umpires made no secret they would make errors in games, but were committed to ensuring that those errors were not through lack of knowledge or lack of effort. “We pride ourselves on being the 10th team in the WAFL competition,” he said. Umpire development takes a regional tour

WAFC Manager Umpiring Pathways Tim Priest has spent the past few weeks on a whirlwind tour delivering of laws of the game educational development sessions through much of regional WA, including Bunbury, Busselton, Geraldton, Esperance, Broome and Carnarvon.   An Albany session was also conducted back in February by WAFC Manager Dean Margetts following his AFL umpiring commitments in the town. In the Pilbara just last week further umpiring sessions were led by seasoned WAFL match day umpire coach John Beaton in Karratha, Dampier and Tom Price.    Priest said the purpose of the regional visits were twofold. WA kicks off Youth Girls Championships with a win

Western Australia defeated Victoria Country on the opening day of the 2016 Youth Girls National Championships in Melbourne by nine points in a thrilling finish. After trailing at quarter time, Western Australia 6.6 (42) defeated Vic Country 5.3 (33) spearheaded by a five-goal haul from Kate Bartlett and best on ground performance from Ebonee Hardie. Abby Duncan also added a goal for WA, while Sabreena Duffy, Courtney Hodder, Jasmin Stewart and Megan Adams were named among WA's best players. Read More ...

The round got underway on Saturday with Subiaco remaining undefeated by handing South Fremantle its first loss of 2016, winning 15.16 (106) to 10.15 (75) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. SUBIACO flexed its muscles as the WAFL team to beat in 2016 winning its top of the table clash on Saturday over South Fremantle while Peel Thunder and West Perth also scored impressive Round 7 victories. South Fremantle and Subiaco had both won their opening five matches of the season heading into Saturday's clash at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, but the Lions were in control most of the afternoon. Simpson, fellow recruits standing tall for Sharks

EAST Fremantle might have lost last Saturday's Anzac Derby but there were signs aplenty to excite Sharks fans for the rest of 2016 and none more so than the performances of Jesse Crichton, Matthew Watson and Josh Simpson. Following a horror end to the 2015 season where the Sharks lost 12 of their last 13 matches coming off a preliminary final appearance in 2014, incoming coach Rob Wiley knew that he had to add some recruits to the team he was inheriting. But he kept largely to those either he or East Fremantle was familiar with. Wiley was able to lure Watson to join him at the Sharks after the pair had an assistant coach and player relationship together in the AFL at Carlton. Read More ...
