Clutterbuck, Payne prepare for first battle against one another

FREDDIE Clutterbuck and Steven Payne became good friends and enjoyed playing in strong teams together at East Perth but now the wingmen are set to play on one another for the first time when Swan Districts take on the Royals at Medibank Stadium. There might be plenty of attention on West Coast's Lewis Jetta coming back to East Perth to take on the team he played with back in 2009 before being drafted to the Sydney Swans, and facing a Swans team featuring his older brother Graham on Saturday. But Saturday's clash at Medibank Stadium will also be the first time that Clutterbuck takes on his old Royals team this year after deciding to leave East Perth and join Swan Districts during the pre-season. Bulldogs captain Cook proud to bring up century

RYAN Cook came to South Fremantle looking for a one-year adventure after his time in the AFL but now sees himself a Bulldogs player for life as he prepares for his 100th WAFL appearance this Saturday. Cook spent four years playing 14 AFL matches with Collingwood but once he was delisted at the end of the 2010 season, he was looking for a new adventure in life and when the offer came to join the WAFL and play with South Fremantle, it was an opportunity he jumped at. But he only saw himself playing with the Bulldogs for that 2011 season before returning home. Five years later and Cook is about to celebrate his 100-game milestone this Saturday when the Bulldogs take on Peel Thunder at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. Read More ...


Rory O'Brien proud to reach 100 games for Thunder

THERE is no more decorated current WAFL player than Rory O'Brien and he will be proud to reach another milestone this Saturday when he runs out to play with Peel Thunder for the 100th time in his career. The prolific ball winning midfielder began his WAFL career with Peel back in 2005 and despite one year away in the SANFL with North Adelaide in 2008, he racked up 92 games with the Thunder and won two Tuckey Medals as fairest and best up until the end of 2010. That's when he decided to join brother Brock in moving to East Fremantle and Rory put together an outstanding five years with the Sharks where he played 108 games, won a Sandover Medal and three Lynn Medal as the club's fairest and best. Round 8 McDonald's WAFL Wrap Up

EAST Fremantle stunned Subiaco in Round 8 WAFL action on Saturday led by a former Lion with West Perth winning a third straight, South Fremantle storming home to return to the top of the ladder and Perth getting off the bottom winning the battle of the cellar dwellers. East Fremantle handed Subiaco its first loss since Round 20 last year and the Sharks did it emphatically winning 18.12 (120) to 6.4 (40) at Medibank Stadium. South Fremantle came from 25 points down early in the last quarter to kick the last five goals to beat Claremont 12.13 (85) to 12.5 (77) at the Claremont Showground. West Perth finished strongly to beat Peel Thunder 8.10 (58) to 5.11 (41) at HBF Arena and Perth won its second game of the season, beating Swan Districts 14.11 (95) to 8.6 (54). Read More ...

Sally makes her AFL debut

Sally Boud is proof that good things happen to good people. On Saturday, Boud made her AFL goal umpiring debut when Fremantle clashed with GWS at Domain Stadium. Since signing her AFL contract, there has been a significant amount of interest in Boud’s progression because she is the first female from Western Australia to gain a position on the AFL panel. But while Boud’s gender is impossible to ignore, so was her talent. A dual WAFL grand final umpire, Boud has also officiated in a Foxtel Cup grand final. In an era of strong competition for positions in the WAFL goal umpiring ranks, Boud stood out ahead of her colleagues. Read More ...


Round 8 McDonald's WAFL Results

EAST Fremantle pulled off the shock of the WAFL season on Saturday not just by beating Subiaco but by doing so by 80 points while South Fremantle stormed home to beat Claremont and West Perth and Perth scored strong victories. Subiaco had won its last 11 matches and not lost since Round 20 last year, but that all changed dramatically on Saturday at Medibank Stadium with East Fremantle delivering an 18.12 (120) to 6.4 (40) victory. West Perth won a third straight match defeating Peel Thunder 8.10 (58) to 5.11 (41) with South Fremantle coming back from trailing by 25 points early in the last quarter to beat Claremont 12.13 (85) to 12.5 (77) at the Claremont Showground. The final match of One Life Round was between the bottom two teams who had just the one win apiece for the season going into the clash at Lathlain Park, and Perth took out a 14.11 (95) to 8.6 (54) victory. Randall awarded Jill Lindsay Scholarship

AFL Commissioner Gabrielle Trainor today presented East Pilbara Regional Manager at Swan Districts Football Club Chelsea Randall with the 2016 Jill Lindsay Scholarship. The annual Jill Lindsay Scholarship is awarded to the female graduate with the most potential to become an industry leader from the AFL SportsReady program.  The Scholarship is named in honour of the AFL’s longest serving employee Jill Lindsay, who lost her battle with cancer 2011. Lindsay was considered a trailblazer in the football industry, having completed 41 years at the AFL in various roles including VFL Park match day manager and VFL membership manager, before being appointed grounds operations manager in 1991.
