Round 10 McDonald's WAFL Results

SOUTH Fremantle moved clear on top of the WAFL ladder while East Fremantle inched closer to a top two spot, Peel Thunder consolidated fourth position and West Perth scored a fourth successive win as all four Round 10 matches battled the stormy conditions in Perth on Saturday. The round began at Mandurah's Bendigo Bank Stadium and despite East Perth kicking the opening two goals, Peel Thunder got the job done kicking five of the last six of the game to win 5.9 (39) to 3.7 (25). South Fremantle delivered a strong second half to overcome Swan Districts 19.12 (126) to 12.7 (79) at Steel Blue Oval with the Bulldogs moving a game and percentage clear on top of the ladder as a result. McDonald's WAFL Round 10 Preview

ROUND 10 of the 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season features all four matches on Saturday including a top against bottom clash, a grand final rematch, a battle of the two AFL partnered clubs and another with one team on a winning run against one on a losing streak. It shapes as a fascinating day of WAFL action beginning at 11.40am at Bendigo Bank Stadium when the fourth placed Peel Thunder hosts the fifth placed East Perth. Then in the traditional 2.15pm time slot, the league leading South Fremantle plays the bottom placed Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval with Claremont desperate for a win against East Fremantle at the Claremont Showground and Subiaco hosting West Perth at Medibank Stadium in the second grand final rematch already of 2016. Carlton Draught WAFL State Squad announced

The West Australian Football League has selected an initial Carlton Draught WAFL State Squad of 41 players to represent the WAFL against Tasmania at Steel Blue Oval on June 11. The squad includes at least one player from every WAFL club and has the strongest representation from current ladder leaders South Fremantle, Subiaco and East Fremantle. Carlton Draught WAFL State Coach Darren Harris, who led the WAFL to a 44-point victory over the SANFL in last year’s State Game, said he was very impressed with the quality of players selected. Refreshed O'Brien wants ultimate success with Thunder

RORY O'Brien is proud to have now reached 100 games at Peel Thunder and he has his sights set on earning life membership at the club he began his WAFL career at and will finish it with. O'Brien made his league debut with Peel in 2005 and ever since has been one of the most prolific ball winners, hardest working and most consistent midfielders in the competition. And he has been rewarded as the most decorated current WAFL player with three fairest and best awards with East Fremantle, two with Peel, the 2013 Sandover Medal, two appearances for Western Australia and being Sharks skipper for two years. Snapshot of WAFL season after Round 9

AFTER nine rounds of the 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season it provides a good opportunity to see how things are shaping up with each club having now played eight games, and one another once each. It has been a fascinating opening nine rounds of the season with South Fremantle and East Fremantle emerging as premiership chances after poor finishes to 2015 where they both missed finals. Aside from one slip up against East Fremantle, Subiaco has again been impressive as the Lions hunt for a third straight flag. East Perth and Peel remain around the mark, West Perth has fought back from a slow start, Claremont is competitive but losing late in the majority of games while Perth has shown signs of improvement and Swan Districts have been decimated by injuries and player departures. WA's top youth girls to play at Etihad

Eleven girls in the WA U18 Youth Girls team have been selected to play in a curtain-raiser match to the Women's Exhibition game at Etihad Stadium in September at the conclusion of the Youth Girls National Championships in Melbourne last month. Players selected include Sabreena Duffy, Beatrice Devlyn, Courtney Hodder, Emily McGuire, Mckenzie Dowrick, Tayla McAuliffe, Jasmin Stewart, Sonia Dorizzi, Ebonee Hardie, Rachel Ashley and Kate Bartlett. Courtney Hodder was named A-Section MVP at the championships after a standout performance throughout the week-long competition. Read More ...


Domain Stadium General Manager appointed

THE West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) has promoted Facility Services Manager Paul Lekias to General Manager of Domain Stadium following an extensive internal interview process. Mr Lekias has worked as Facility Services Manager at Domain Stadium for the past three years and prior to that was involved with Strategic Facilities Projects at the WAFC since 2011. He fills the position vacated by former General Manager Gavin Taylor after his appointment as WAFC Chief Executive Officer in April. Read More ...

Round 9 McDonald's WAFL Wrap Up

THE WAFL's top three teams South Fremantle, Subiaco and East Fremantle all scored comfortable Round 9 victories on Saturday with East Perth also returning to winning form to replace old foes West Perth in the top five. All four matches took place on Saturday afternoon with South Fremantle defeating Peel Thunder 16.11 (107) to 9.12 (66) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. Subiaco bounced back from its first loss of 2016 defeating Claremont 17.13 (115) to 11.5 (71) at the Claremont Showground while East Fremantle beat Perth 16.12 (108) to 10.9 (69) at ATOM Stadium and East Perth prevailed 17.12 (114) to 3.5 (23) over Swan Districts at Medibank Stadium.
