Hard work defines Tedesco as he reaches 150 at Falcons

WEST Perth premiership defender and former captain Luke Tedesco had to work hard and wait a while to reach his 150th game and earn life membership at the Falcons, but after a career based on dedication and hard work it only adds to the legacy he will leave behind. Tedesco made his debut for West Perth in 2007 and over his 149 games up until Round 6 this year he had become one of the Falcons most reliable, committed and important players. He might not have had the natural talents of his good friend Andrew Strijk who is now nearing 200 games and is a premiership teammate from 2013, but Tedesco has worked as hard as anybody and been as consistent and committed to get the absolute most out of himself. WA 18s impress despite loss to champions Vic Metro

WESTERN AUSTRALIA might have lost its final match against Division 1 champions Victoria Metro in the NAB AFL National Championships but not without some exciting moments including a spectacular mark by Josh Rotham and star performance by Sam Petrevski-Seton. WA's final match of the 2016 championships took place on Wednesday at Geelong's Simonds Stadium with Vic Metro winning 12.9 (81) to 8.10 (58) to claim the Division 1 title for 2016. The WA State 18s team opened the championships with an impressive 61-point win over Victoria Country at Domain Stadium before suffering a 37-point defeat at the hands of South Australia at AAMI Stadium. Fisher claims Deppro State 18s MVP Award

Talented Perth Football Club midfielder Zac Fisher was named WA MVP at the conclusion of the AFL National 18s Championships today. Fisher was among WA's best in their final game of the Championships against Victoria Metro at Simonds Stadium in Geelong today, collecting 17 disposals, laying five tackles and kicking a goal during WA's 23 point loss 8.10 (58) to 12.9 (81). WA had early chances to make an impact against eventual champions Victoria Metro, entering the attacking 50 without reward in the opening quarter before Fisher finally found an avenue to goal in the second quarter. Round 14 McDonald's WAFL Wrap Up

SOUTH Fremantle and Subiaco shot further clear on top of the WAFL with strong wins on Saturday with the other three top five teams losing as Perth and Swan Districts scored confidence-boosting victories. South Fremantle returned to the top of the ladder just on percentage with a 16.6 (102) to 9.13 (67) victory over West Perth at HBF Arena. That ended the Falcons' seven-game winning run with the Bulldogs setting up the victory with the first seven goals of the second half. Subiaco might have dropped to second spot but it was a strong win over Claremont all the same with the Lions beating the Tigers 15.11 (101) to 11.9 (75) at Medibank Stadium on the back of an eight-goal to two second quarter. Footy program for at-risk youth concludes with NAIDOC celebration

More than 100 young people from Kwinana and Mandurah came together to play a game of football and celebrate Indigenous culture as part of the NAIDOC session of the WA Football Commission’s Night Fields program on Friday, June 24. It marked the last session of the six-week program which was developed last year to involve disengaged and at-risk youth in football and provide them with a range of social support services. The West Australian Football Commission Youth Girls teams will battle it out in the annual Youth Girls Super Sunday carnival at Altone Park, Beechboro on Sunday, July 10. The carnival for all Rogers Cup Youth Girl participants will feature a number of interactive and fun activities including a photo booth, music and inflatables. Those attending will also get the chance to meet the WAFC Female Ambassadors. State 16s defeated in a thriller

The DEPPRO WA State 16s were narrowly defeated by South Australia in a tight contest at AAMI Stadium in the first round of the NAB AFL National 16s Championships on Saturday, June 25. WA started the game well and led at every change before a big final quarter from South Australia saw the home team edge ahead to claim a hard-fought seven point win sealed with a goal moments before the final siren. Tom Joyce, Ian Hill, Jason Carter, Louis Miller, Regan Spooner and Max Murphy were named as WA’s best players, while Dylan O’Reilly led the way on the scoreboard with two goals Coach John Hancock said he was proud of his players’ efforts and also highlighted the leadership of captain Rylie Morgan both on and off the field. More than 100 students from the Intensive English Centre (IEC) at Melville Senior High School were given the opportunity to learn how to play Australian Football as part of the WA Football Commission’s (WAFC) Multicultural Football Program. Both male and female students between the ages of 12 and 16 took part in the three-week program, which uses football as a vehicle to strengthen social acceptance, understanding and inclusion in local school communities. SOUTH Fremantle regained top spot on the WAFL ladder with the Bulldogs ending West Perth's seven-game winning streak in Round 14 while Subiaco kept pace with them and Perth and Swan Districts scored rare wins over teams in the top five. South Fremantle conceded top position last week to Subiaco by percentage but the Bulldogs' 16.6 (102) to 9.13 (67) win over West Perth on Saturday at HBF Arena was enough to see them move back into first place. Subiaco fell to second despite the Lions also winning having to fight hard to beat Claremont 15.11 (101) to 11.9 (75) at Medibank Stadium. Two more teams in the top five also suffered losses on Saturday with East Perth's hopes of playing finals again in 2016 increasing even with the Royals having the Round 14 bye. Read More ...


Starkick Program a finalist for industry award

Coolbinia Bombers Junior Football Club’s Starkick Program has been named as a finalist for the 2016/17 Sport and Recreation Industry Awards. The Starkick Program, which was selected from among 70 nominations, provides an opportunity for children of all ability levels, including those with disability, to play football. Now in its second year, there are close to 50 Starkick participants from all over Perth, which includes children with autism, cerebral palsy and vision impairment. Altone Park set to benefit from lighting upgrade

Football Clubs at Altone Park including Beechboro Junior Football Club, East Perth Women’s Football Club and Swans District Junior Football Umpires Association (SDJFUA), will benefit from a $100,000 election commitment to upgrade lighting at the venue. The commitment was announced yesterday by Federal Member for Cowan Luke Simpkins on behalf of the Turnbull Coalition Team. West Australian Football Commission Metro Central Development Manager Isaac Stewart said the enhancement of Altone Park was a strategic priority for the WAFC Central Conference that was critical to the expansion of Beechboro Junior Football Club, East Perth Women’s Football Club and the SDJFUA in the next decade. The undoubted match of the round takes place at HBF Arena as a West Perth team on a seven-game winning streak hosts South Fremantle who sits in second position and could potentially regain top spot with a victory. The league-leading reigning premiers Subiaco also host Claremont at Medibank Stadium while Perth takes on an East Fremantle side at Lathlain Park needing to bounce back after a thumping from Subiaco.
