SUBIACO and South Fremantle cemented their spots on top of the WAFL with strong Sunday Round 13 victories following the state game while West Perth won a seventh straight and East Perth kept its finals hopes alive. Following the WAFL's record 134-point state game victory over Tasmania at Steel Blue Oval, the season resumed on Saturday with East Perth defeating Perth 14.18 (102) to 10.6 (66) at Medibank Stadium and West Perth held off Claremont 14.10 (94) to 14.7 (91) at the Claremont Showground. WAFL action resumed on Saturday with two matches following last week's record state game win over Tasmania with West Perth scoring a seventh straight victory and East Perth keeping its finals hopes alive with a win over Perth. There were just the two matches on Saturday to open Round 13 with West Perth holding on to beat Claremont 14.10 (94) to 14.7 (91) at the Claremont Showground and East Perth defeating Perth 14.18 (102) to 10.6 (66) at Medibank Stadium. WA 18s beat Allies for second victory of Championships

WESTERN Australia has won its second game of the 2016 NAB AFL 18s Championships holding off a fast finishing Allies team to win by 17 points at Domain Stadium on Saturday. The WA State 18s team opened the championships with an impressive 61-point win over Victoria Country at Domain Stadium before suffering a 37-point defeat at the hands of South Australia last Sunday at AAMI Stadium. WA bounced back strongly on Saturday back on home turf beating the Allies 10.9 (69) to 7.10 (52) on the back of kicking six goals to two in the first half, and another three to two in the third. THE WAFL resumes this weekend with a massive Sunday as the top four teams all lock horns with one another and before that on Saturday, East Perth, Claremont and Perth desperately try to keep their finals hopes alive. Following the WAFL's record 134-point state game victory over Tasmania last Saturday at Steel Blue Oval, the 2016 McDonald's Premiership Season resumes this weekend with two matches on Saturday and two more on Sunday. The two games on Saturday see Claremont take on West Perth at the Claremont Showground and East Perth face Perth at Medibank Stadium. State U23 women to clash with Queensland

WESTERN Australia’s State U23 Women’s team departs this week for games against Queensland’s U23s on Friday night and Sunday morning. The first game will be held at Yeronga Oval, South Brisbane at 6.30pm on Friday, June 17 and the second at 11am at Metricon Stadium on Sunday, June 19. The team will be led by State Women’s Academy coach Martine Pearman, captain Courtney Ugle and a leadership group including Demi Okely, Tayla Bresland, Eliza Gelmi and Emily Bonser. An official jumper presentation for team members was held at Swan Districts Football Club on Tuesday, June 14 and attended by WAFC Commissioners Cheryl Edwardes and Grant Dorrington, as well as AFL club representatives Wade Spilcker from Fremantle and Deane Pieters from West Coast. Rioli, Sorrell receive AFL Hall of Fame honour

WA football legends Maurice Rioli and Ray Sorrell have been recognised with induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame. The pair were inducted last night during a gala event in Melbourne. 1959 Brownlow medallist Verdun Howell (St Kilda), SANFL star Paul Bagshaw (Sturt) Adelaide defender Ben Hart and Brisbane Lions midfielder Nigel Lappin were also inducted. WA and AFL Hall of Fame Legend Barry Cable was added to the Australian Football Hall of Fame selection panel after playing an important role advocating for greater national recognition of the history of WA Football prior to the introduction of the AFL competition.
