East Fremantle Football Club legend and WA Football Hall of Fame inductee Alan Preen passed away aged 81 on Sunday, November 27. Preen will be long remembered for his elite skills which saw him represent Western Australia on 15 occasions, finish runner-up in the 1958 Sandover Medal and twice win East Fremantle's fairest and best award. Claremont player Francis Watson has been added to the final position on the West Coast Eagles list after he was recruited today as a category B rookie through the recently-formed next generation academy system. The 21-year-old Tigers defender follows East Perth player Tarir Bayok, an explosive midfielder of Sudanese heritage, as a rookie to be listed with West Coast under the new AFL academy system. THE West Australian Football Commission congratulates the five WAFL players added to AFL Rookie lists during today’s AFL Rookie Draft. They include #11 Cameron Zurhaar (East Fremantle), #12 Thomas Gorter (East Perth), #21 Luke Strnadica (East Fremantle), #43 Matthew Taylor (Perth) and Category B Rookie Tarir Bayok (East Perth) – the first player selected from West Coast’s new Next Generation Academy. This takes the total number of WA players drafted in 2016 to 15, including 10 in the NAB AFL National Draft on Friday, November 25. SOUTH Fremantle Football Club Chief Executive Officer Stuart Kemp has called time on his successful career for the Bulldogs, leaving the organisation in great shape as it targets continuous improvement in the future.  After four years in the WAFL with South, Kemp has been a driving force to the resurgence of the club in many areas. With the Bulldogs now turning a regular profit and  winning the coveted Rodriguez Shield for the most amount of wins across all grades by a WAFL club in 2016, he feels it’s the perfect time to move on. Kemp emphasised the club had been very good to him, but it was the right time for someone else to steer the ship. Both will be formally inducted at the annual WAFC Life Members’ Association end-of-year function to be held on Monday, December 5 at Domain Stadium. Induction to the WAFC Life Members’ Association is regarded as the WAFC’s highest level of recognition, distinct from life membership awarded by individual football clubs and associated bodies, and is awarded to individuals who have made an outstanding overall contribution to football in Western Australia.
