Round 5 – Peel Thunder v West Perth Match Report

WEST Perth couldn’t have responded to a 103-point loss in better fashion rebounding on Good Friday to beat Peel Thunder by 35 points at Bendigo Bank Stadium. Both Peel and West Perth came into the contest on the back of two-game losing runs, but it was the Falcons with redemption on their minds especially following a 103-point loss to South Fremantle the previous Saturday. WAFL Round 5 match reports

THERE were three significant WAFL Good Friday matches to open Round 5 of the 2017 WAFL season with West Perth, Subiaco and South Fremantle all scoring impressive victories. Three of the four Round 5 matches took place on Good Friday starting at Mandurah's Bendigo Bank Stadium. Round 5 Preview - East Fremantle v Swan Districts

THE form of East Fremantle and Swan Districts to open 2017 couldn’t be more contrasting and the black-and-whites have some added incentive with a big milestone, but the Sharks will be coming out hungry. East Fremantle is winless and Swan Districts undefeated so far in 2017 coming into the clash at East Fremantle Oval in the standalone Saturday clash in the WAFL over the Easter Weekend. While that leaves Swans as the warm favourites to head to East Fremantle Oval and beat the Sharks, it's certainly still early enough in the season for East Fremantle to turn things around. SOUTH Fremantle and Claremont are the two hottest teams in the WAFL and with top spot on the line the Good Friday clash at Fremantle Community Bank Oval has blockbuster written all over it. THE now annual Good Friday contest between the Leederville Oval co-tenants is back on for another year with Subiaco looking to keep its momentum going while East Perth is hunting its first victory of 2017. The Lions and Royals have done battle in five of the past six Good Fridays at Leederville Oval in what is becoming an annual tradition that attracts some of the highest attendances across the WAFL in a season. 2017 Rio Tinto Flying Boomerangs and World Team squads announced

Fourteen Western Australians have been selected for the 2017 Boomerangs and World Team squads to compete at the 2017 NAB AFL Under-16 Championships on the Gold Coast in July. The players were selected by AFL Club recruiters following the 2017 AFL National Male Diversity Championships held in Blacktown. WAFL Round 5 teams and previews

IT is Easter Round in the WAFL with three games on Good Friday to kick off proceedings before the winless East Fremantle host the undefeated Swan Districts on Saturday. It is Round 5 of the 2017 McDonald's WAFL Premiership season and it begins with three games on Good Friday starting at 2.15pm at Bendigo Bank Stadium with Peel Thunder hosting West Perth in a replay of last year's first semi-final. There are then two twilight Good Friday fixtures with a top-of-the-table clash between South Fremantle and Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval beginning at 4.15pm. Read More ...

Swans legend Tallan Ames reaches 250-game mark

TALLAN Ames' place in history as a great of Swan Districts reaches another highlight with the remarkably loyal, dedicated and passionate servant to become just the fifth player at the club to play 250 games. Ames already will go down as a great of the black-and-whites and that is something that means the world to him considering he grew up dreaming of playing for the club and has always lived in close proximity to Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval. His official 250th game for Swan Districts will take place this Saturday against East Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval with his team aiming to keep their unbeaten start to 2017 going up against the winless Sharks. Nelson's 100-game milestone provides extra incentive for Falcons

WEST Perth will have some added incentive to bounce back on Good Friday against Peel Thunder with Shane Nelson celebrating a remarkable start to his WAFL career reaching his 100th game with the Falcons. The prolific ball-winning midfielder, who is every bit as courageous as he is talented in racking up possessions, has had a stunning first 99 games with West Perth as he approaches his 100-match milestone on Good Friday against Peel at Bendigo Bank Stadium. In his 96 WAFL matches for West Perth he is averaging 29.2 possessions a game. His other three appearances for West Perth came in the Foxtel Cup where he averaged almost 19 touches despite the shortened format. Read More ...


Young umpires lead the way

Four junior district umpires got the opportunity to attend the Fremantle Dockers v Western Bulldogs clash at Domain Stadium and watch the AFL umpires in action after recently being selected for the Hendrie Margetts Umpire Development squad. The squad, made up of 21 junior umpires and led by Head Coach Greg Gilbee, was established to provide professional and personal development opportunities for young aspiring umpires to enable them to progress from junior to senior football through to the WAFL and AFL competitions.  The Hendrie Margetts squad is named after former WAFL and AFL umpire and WANFLUA Hall of Famer Craig Hendrie and Dean Margetts who currently umpires AFL and is employed at the WA Football Commission (WAFC) in the role of Umpire Development Manager.  Perth district umpire Basil Thomas, one of the four lucky umpires who attended the Dockers’ home game, said it was an invaluable experience. “It was a real insight to see the AFL umpires in action at the game,” Thomas said. Elijah’s experience on the big AFL stage

Elijah Ihanimo from Harrisdale was the envy of all kids when the Piara Waters Junior Football Club Auskicker was announced the second weekly nominee for the 2017 NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year competition. The six-year-old flew to Melbourne for the Western Bulldogs and Sydney Swans clash at Etihad where he got the opportunity to play a grid game of footy at halftime and talk to sports broadcaster Hamish McLachlan. Elijah said he was very excited when he found out he was an Auskicker of the Year nominee. “I was so excited when mum told me,” he said. “It was totally epic and I couldn’t believe it!” Read More ...


Round 4 Reserves and Colts Wrap

THERE was another round of some thrilling results and standout individual performances in the WAFL reserves and REDiMED Colts across the weekend. Three of the reserves matches took place on Saturday with Perth defeating East Fremantle 19.6 (120) to 10.15 (75), South Fremantle winning with the last goal of the game 10.9 (69) to 9.14 (68) over West Perth and Subiaco defeating Peel Thunder 9.15 (69) to 9.13 (67).
