Domain Stadium celebrates largest ever event

The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) is celebrating after successfully hosting its largest ever event at Domain Stadium, with Adele captivating 65,000 fans in a stunning performance last night (Tuesday, February 28). Adele became the fastest and highest selling individual artist ever for a concert at Domain Stadium when tickets went on sale for the first stop of her inaugural Australian tour. WAFC Chief Executive Officer Gavin Taylor said the WAFC was thrilled to have hosted the first concert of Adele’s national tour and her first ever stadium performance. “It was an amazing event and such an exciting opportunity for West Australians to be the first in the world to see Adele perform inside a stadium,” he said. 2016 West Australian Football Commission Financial Result

The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) demonstrated its ability to maintain financial stability and build on cash reserves in 2016. This included recording a net profit of $1.032m and cash result of $617,000 to achieve the WAFC’s objective of building its cash reserve balance sheet. The cash result was outlined at tonight’s Annual General Meeting (Monday, February 27), along with the annual investment of more than $24 million into developing WA football. WAFC Chief Executive Officer Gavin Taylor said the outcome was achieved through sound financial management and a focus on building the WAFC’s balance sheet in a period of uncertainty surrounding football’s future economic model. WAFL Pre-Season Heat Policy to be implemented

The West Australian Football League has advised all clubs of an exclusion period for Round 1 pre-season games between 12.30pm and 3.30pm tomorrow (Saturday, February 25) under the WAFL Heat Policy.   Clubs were advised earlier in the week of the implementation of the WAFL Heat Policy for the coming weekend along with an outline of key areas of consideration given the impending conditions.   Read More ...


WAFL regional fixtures confirmed

The West Australian Football Commission has confirmed that 2017 McDonald’s WAFL Premiership games will be played in Busselton and Esperance in partnership with the Department of Sport and Recreation and State Government’s Country Sports Enrichment Scheme (CSES).   Esperance will host the Round 17 League fixture between Subiaco and Claremont and Busselton will host the Round 18 League fixture between East Perth and South Fremantle.   The venues for each game remain subject to final ground assessments. West Perth has welcomed the Joondalup Falcons into the club for 2017 and beyond in an exciting new move for the Falcons will see the male senior, reserves and colts teams, and female senior, reserves and youth teams all come under the one banner for the same time. JLT Community Series kicks off in Geraldton

The JLT Community Series Pre-Season AFL competition hits WA with a thrilling Western Derby clash between West Coast and Fremantle at Wonthella Oval in Geraldton on Saturday, February 25. The action gets underway at 3.40pm at Wonthella, with gates opening at 2.00pm. The clash has now sold out. No AFL or Club membership scans or general admission tickets will be available on match day. How the WAFL clubs are shaping up for 2017

EXCITEMENT is beginning to build ahead of the 2017 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season that is now a month away and as always there has been plenty of movement between the nine clubs. The WAFL season for 2017 will begin on Saturday March 18 with East Fremantle hosting Claremont, East Perth taking on Peel Thunder, Swan Districts facing Perth and then South Fremantle battling Subiaco in a twilight fixture at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. Before that there will be three weeks of pre-season fixtures starting on Saturday February 25. That will see Peel play Perth at Bendigo Bank Stadium, Swan Districts face Subiaco at Steel Blue Oval, East Perth take on South Fremantle at Leederville Oval and West Perth host East Fremantle at HBF Arena. Youth Football a focus for WAFC

New strategies to engage and retain more teenage participants at football clubs will be implemented by the West Australian Football Commission based on the 2016 findings of a Youth Football Working Group (YFWG).   The YFWG was formed to develop strategies aimed at engaging and retaining 13 to 17-year-old football participants and researching reasons for youth sport drop-out, which is an increasing national issue.   The YFWG included representatives from the WAFC, WAFL clubs, WA Amateur Football League, WA Country Football League, District Football Development Council and independent consultant Craig Turley, a former West Coast Eagles player who specializes in community and social impact research. WAFC appoints full-time Female Talent Manager

The West Australian Football Commission is pleased to announce that Clint Degebrodt has been appointed as the WAFC’s first ever full-time Talent Manager – Female Programs to support the development and advancement of WA players and coaches aspiring to the AFL Women’s competition. Degebrodt, who will move into the role from his current position as Talent Manager at East Perth Football Club, has extensive female football and talent development experience including coaching WA’s State 18 Youth Girls for the past two years. He has also worked as a High Performance Manager with Swan Districts Football Club, coached the Pilbara Talent Academy and was Head Coach of the North West WA AFL 16s Program. National leadership course for diverse female players kicks off

Fifty Indigenous and Multicultural players from across the country, including 11 WA participants, are currently undertaking a six-day camp focussing on personal and cultural development after being selected for the 2017 Medleys and Woomeras Leadership Program. Currently in its fifth year, the Rio Tinto AFL Woomeras team is the national under 16 female Indigenous development program while the Medleys is the national under 16 female Multicultural development program. WAFC Media Statement - State Government negotiations

Negotiations with State Government representatives regarding a future funding model for WA football will continue this week as scheduled.   West Australian Football Commission CEO Gavin Taylor confirmed the WAFC has been making positive progress and that discussions are ongoing.   “No offers have been accepted or rejected by the WAFC as negotiations are still in progress. Our discussions with the State Government’s representatives continue in good faith and further meetings are planned in the coming week,” Mr Taylor said.   “A future funding agreement is centred on the WAFC being the beneficiary of a revenue model from our two AFL clubs playing at Perth Stadium. Broadbridge appointed as WAFL State coach

Former Claremont and AFL assistant coach Michael Broadbridge has been appointed as WAFL State coach for this year’s Carlton Draught State Game against the Victorian Football League (VFL) at North Port Oval on May 27. Broadbridge, who has previously represented Western Australia as a player and a coach, said he was looking forward to another opportunity to be involved with State football. “I am thrilled to be offered the role of WAFL State Coach for this year's game against Victoria,” he said. “I look back on my previous involvements at State level as highlights in my football career. To take a senior State team across to Victoria represents the ultimate challenge and it is one that I am already looking forward to.” WAFC Executive Manager Football Operations Jon Haines said that securing a State Coach of Broadbridge’s experience was a great outcome for the WAFL as it prepared to take on the VFL.
