Kununurra recently played host to the East Kimberley WAFC Cup which was a clash between the Kununurra Boabs and the formidable Halls Creek Cowboys. The first quarter was a close affair with only one goal scored by the home team, as both sides were having trouble kicking due to the blustery conditions.  There was a turnaround in the second quarter as the game started to open up. The WAFC has introduced a Female Football Ambassador Program to support the ongoing promotion and awareness of Female Football utilising key role models within the community. Chelsea Randall is currently the AFL state female ambassador and this group will assist Chelsea in promoting female football within the Districts and at a state level. WAFC Female Football Coordinator; Allana Dickie said she was excited to create a second tier of female ambassadors and role models to assist in marketing and promoting of Female Football. “We are so lucky here in WA we have so many young passionate role models, this program is going to help promote and increase the awareness of Female Football through a second tier of Ambassadors that will be actively advocating Female Football throughout the season and at various events. STEVE Malaxos won't get the chance to live out a rare feat as a premiership captain and coach at the same club with he and East Fremantle deciding on Monday that his time as senior coach would come to an end effective immediately. Malaxos has done a good job in charge of East Fremantle since 2011 taking the Sharks to the grand final in 2012 and then only narrowly missing out on getting back there in 2014, but on Monday he and the club mutually agreed to part company 11 rounds into the 2015 season. East Fremantle remains well and truly in contention to play finals again in 2015 sitting on a 5-5 record after 10 games, but two losses in five days to South Fremantle and Subiaco will be the last that Malaxos will oversee. EAST Perth, South Fremantle and West Perth all put to bed the concerns over playing on a short break with the three teams finishing strongly to record impressive wins in Saturday's Round 11 WAFL action while the league-leading Subiaco continued its dominant form. All four Round 11 WAFL matches took place on Saturday afternoon starting with East Perth coming from behind to beat Swan Districts 13.9 (87) to 11.4 (70) at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval. Subiaco also beat East Fremantle 15.18 (108) to 8.12 (60) at Leederville's Medibank Stadium while South Fremantle defeated Perth 17.10 (112) to 11.8 (74) at Fremantle Oval and West Perth downed Peel Thunder 17.9 (111) to 17.5 (107) in a high-scoring thriller at Mandurah's Bendigo Bank Stadium. WESTERN Australia's 18s team wasn’t able to back up its thrilling win over South Australia two weeks ago with the Croweaters running out 73-point winners on Saturday at AAMI Stadium in the AFL National 18s Championships. WA produced a tremendous performance two weeks ago Lathlain Park in the opening game of the 2015 AFL National 18s Championships beating the two-time defending champions South Australia by a point. However, last Sunday WA went down to Vic Country by 105 points at Medibank Stadium and now in their first away trip of the championships, came up short at AAMI Stadium in Adelaide with South Australia running out 18.15 (123) to 7.8 (50) winners. WESTERN Australia created history at Domain Stadium on Friday beating Victoria for the first time in an open-age State game, and it took a thriller for it to happen with the Black Swans holding on for a four-point win in a frantic finish. WA had never previously beaten Victoria in an open-age State game, but the two sides did battle at Domain Stadium on Friday afternoon and put on quite a show for those who came early to watch ahead of the Fremantle and Richmond AFL clash later that night. In the end, it was WA who recorded the 8.4 (52) to 7.6 (48) victory but it came down to the dying seconds with Victoria having a chance to snatch the win through Emma Kearney, but a superb defensive effort from WA's Tayla Bresland for WA was enough for the home side to hold on and win. IT IS a full round of WAFL action on Saturday afternoon for Round 11 of the 2015 season as seven of the league's nine teams all continue to fight over the final four spots in the top-five. The first match on Saturday afternoon bounces down at 1.40pm between Swan Districts and East Perth at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval with both teams looking to break into the top-five. More than 120 West Australian Football League umpires and support staff will wear blue armbands at Round 11 McDonald’s WAFL Premiership games this weekend to help raise awareness of motor neurone disease (MND). A total of 96 umpires and 30 support staff will be wearing blue armbands at Colts, Reserves and League games in the lead-up to the AFL’s 'Big Freeze at the G' campaign on Monday June 8, which aims to raise money to find a cure for MND. THE WA Day weekend of WAFL action produced some surprising results and outstanding performances with Swan Districts and Claremont recording wins on Saturday, and East Perth and South Fremantle scoring upset victories in the traditional derbies on Monday. The WAFL action resumed on Saturday following Western Australia's State game win over South Australia, and it saw Claremont beat Peel Thunder 17.16 (118) to 6.10 (46) at the Showground and Swan Districts defeat Perth 13.7 (85) to 11.12 (78) at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval. Then on the WA Day public holiday on Monday, over 11,000 fans attended the two games with East Perth beating West Perth 18.11 (119) to 10.11 (71) in front of 4021 at Medibank Stadium and then in likely the game of the season so far, South Fremantle stormed home to beat East Fremantle 15.13 (103) to 14.14 (98) at ATOM Stadium in front of 7209.
