WAFC Female Ambassadors Announced

A group of 20 WAFC Female Ambassadors were announced this week to join AFL State Female Ambassador Chelsea Randall in promoting female football throughout WA. Stephen confident the worst is now behind the Sharks

EAST Fremantle vice-captain Andrew Stephen isn’t hiding from the fact that the Sharks' current seven-game losing run has built the frustration levels at the club, but he's confident that a first win under caretaker coach Brad Dodd could come this Sunday against South Fremantle. The Sharks only missed making the grand final in 2014 due to poor kicking on goal in a preliminary final loss to Subiaco and then started 2015 well winning five of their first seven games. However, East Fremantle has now not won a game since losing its last seven with a change of coach in that time with Steve Malaxos parting ways with the club and Dodd taking over. Read More ...


Greats honoured at 2015 WA Football Hall of Fame

Eight of Western Australia’s football greats were inducted to the NAB West Australian Football Hall of Fame on Wednesday, July 15 at the State Reception Centre at Kings Park. Hall of Fame member Johnny Leonard was also be elevated to ‘Legend’ status on the night, becoming the 16th Legend along with Haydn Bunton Jnr, Barry Cable, George Doig, Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer, Stan ‘Pops’ Heal, Denis Marshall, Phil Matson, Merv McIntosh, Steve Marsh, George Moloney, Graham Moss, Jack Sheedy, John Todd, WJ ‘Nipper’ Truscott and Bill Walker. NAIDOC Round McDonald's WAFL Wrap Up

THE top four WAFL teams all recorded victories on Saturday as part of NAIDOC Round with Subiaco, West Perth, Peel Thunder and Claremont all taking another step towards giving the finals positions some clarity. All four matches took place on Saturday afternoon with Subiaco beating East Perth 12.13 (85) to 9.8 (62) at Medibank Stadium, Peel Thunder defeating East Fremantle 14.8 (92) to 8.18 (66) at Bendigo Bank Stadium, West Perth downing Perth 14.25 (109) to 9.6 (60) at Lathlain Park and Claremont holding on to beat Claremont 9.10 (64) to 8.12 (60) at the Showground. The NAIDOC Round results leave Subiaco (12-2) three games clear on top ahead of West Perth (9-4), Peel Thunder (8-6) and Claremont (7-6). Swan Districts (7-7) remains in fifth position despite the bye with South Fremantle (7-7) and East Perth (6-8) not far behind. East Fremantle (5-9) and Perth (1-13) then hold up the ladder with both on significant losing streaks. Read More ...

Freo Dockers Cup showcases schoolgirls talent

On the back of an incredibly successful Term 2 Freo Dockers Cup competition, Emmanuel Catholic College and Kolbe Catholic College emerged victorious last weekend at Hamer Park after taking out their respective divisions in the 2015 Freo Dockers Schoolgirls Cup. Emmanuel held off a fast finishing Darling Range Sports College by four points in a highly skilled and spirited match, taking out the White Division title. A very slick and well drilled Kolbe College overpowered a gallant Corpus Christi College to claim the Moore division by 43 points. It was marvellous achievement from Kolbe CC after being promoted to the top Moore Division in 2015 following their 2014 White Division title.  Read More ...


NAIDOC Round McDonald's WAFL Results

SUBIACO stayed three games clear on top, West Perth consolidated second position and then Peel Thunder improved to third and Claremont to fourth after all four teams recorded victories as part of the WAFL's NAIDOC Round on Saturday. All four NAIDOC Round matches took place on Saturday afternoon starting at the Claremont Showground, with Claremont getting off to a flying start against South Fremantle and then holding on to win 9.10 (64) to 8.12 (60). Subiaco maintained its place on top of the ladder with a hard fought 12.13 (85) to 9.8 (62) win over East Perth in the battle of Medibank Stadium co-tenants. Peel Thunder bounced back from a slow start to hand East Fremantle its seventh straight defeat, 14.8 (92) to 8.18 (66) at Bendigo Bank Stadium. McDonald's WAFL NAIDOC Round Preview

THE WAFL celebrates the annual NAIDOC Round this Saturday with all four matches seeing the teams wear specially designed jumpers for the occasion and with plenty at stake in each of the contests. Claremont and South Fremantle were the teams to start the NAIDOC Week tradition and both are in the hunt for a spot in the top five when they clash at the Claremont Showground. The Medibank Stadium co-tenants East Perth and Subiaco also do battle with Peel Thunder playing East Fremantle at Bendigo Bank Stadium, and Perth hosting West Perth at Lathlain Park. The WAFL has celebrated a NAIDOC themed round now every year since 2009 to celebrate the contribution of Aboriginal footballers to the game, and again this Saturday all eight competing teams will wear specially designed jumpers while playing with a Burley football featuring Aboriginal artwork. NAIDOC Round at the WAFL

The West Australian Football League, in partnership with the Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Department of Sport and Recreation, will celebrate the significance of Aboriginal players when WAFL NAIDOC Round is held this Saturday, July 11. All WAFL clubs playing in the Round will wear uniforms specially designed to represent the heritage of the clubs and their Aboriginal players.   This year a special NAIDOC football, pictured, will also be used for NAIDOC Round games. WAFL Top 5 Finals format

An exciting change for the 2015 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season is the return to a Top 5 finals system that will create an additional round of finals and give all nine clubs extra incentive to finish the season as strongly as possible. The WAFL clubs voted last year to introduce a top five in 2015, and with one of the closest seasons in WAFL history currently underway, the top 5 on the ladder may not be finalised until the eve of the finals. Round 15 McDonald's WAFL Wrap Up

THERE were just the two WAFL matches that made up Round 15 of the season on Saturday afternoon with Subiaco and Swan Districts recording victories over Peel Thunder and East Perth respectively. Swan Districts improved to third position on the ladder with a thrilling four-point victory over East Perth at Steel Blue Oval, 9.10 (64) to 8.12 (60) while Subiaco proved too good for Peel Thunder winning 15.9 (99) to 6.8 (44) at Medibank Stadium. The round's results leave Subiaco (11-2) three games clear on top of the ladder ahead of West Perth (8-4), Swan Districts (7-7), Peel Thunder (7-6) and South Fremantle (7-6). Then outside of the top five are Claremont (6-6), East Perth (6-7), East Fremantle (5-8) and Perth (1-12). Read More ...
