Claremont player Jake Waterman was announced as WA State 18s captain during an official State Academy jumper presentation at Domain Stadium on Tuesday night, May 24.
Waterman, 18, was voted captain by his teammates and coaches after demonstrating his leadership during last year's AFL National 18s Championships as a first year player.
Claremont teammate Sam Petrevski-Seton, West Perth’s Josh Rotham, East Perth’s Sam Powell-Pepper and Swan Districts player Griffin Logue were also announced as part of the State 18s leadership group.
Waterman, who was also part of last year's elite AFL Academy program, is the son of former West Coast Eagles premiership player Chris Waterman and younger brother of Alec, who was recruited by the Eagles as a father-son selection in 2014.
Jake stands at 189cm, weighs 86kg and has shown great versatility playing in different roles at WAFL colts level so far this season, including as a forward and a midfielder.
In his five games played, he has avergaed 19.4 disposals, six marks and kicked 17 goals.
The State 16s announced Claremont's Rylie Morgan as their captain.
The AFL National 16s and 18s Championship will be played during June and July this year, commencing with WA's State 18s playing Victoria Country on Sunday, June 5.
