WA Day McDonald's WAFL Results

Tuesday, June 2, 2015 - 12:10 AM - by Chris Pike
EAST Perth made up for being overrun three weeks ago with a big win over West Perth on WA Day while South Fremantle kicked the last four goals of the Foundation Derby to score a stunning five-point victory against East Fremantle. Following the Round 10 action beginning on Saturday with Claremont thrashing Peel Thunder 17.16 (118) to 6.10 (46) at the Claremont Showground and Swan Districts beating Perth 13.7 (85) to 11.12 (78) at Steel Blue Oval, all attention turned to the two traditional WA Day derbies. And it saw East Perth able to hold on to a big lead unlike three weeks ago to beat West Perth at Medibank Stadium 18.11 (119) to 10.11 (71). Then South Fremantle fought back from a 33-point quarter-time deficit and the absence of Ben Saunders, Blayne Wilson, Haiden Schloithe, Jacob Martinez and then Tim Kelly to kick the last four goals to beat East Fremantle 15.13 (103) to 14.14 (98) at ATOM Stadium. Sunday, May 31, 2015 - 4:51 PM - by Chris Pike
WESTERN Australia hasn’t been able to back up its stunning start to the 2015 AFL National 18s Championships with Vic Country recording a 105-point victory at Medibank Stadium on Sunday. The WA State 18s team started off the 2015 championships in style last Saturday with a thrilling one-point win at Lathlain Park over a South Australian side that is shooting for a third straight Division 1 title. However, the Black Swans came up short this Sunday at Leederville's Medibank Stadium with Vic Country kicking the first five goals of the match and going on to eventually win 21.18 (144) to 5.9 (39). The day might not have panned out how the WA side hoped but there were still some talented young players who delivered encouraging performances in the losing cause. Read More ...

Clutterbuck confident Royals can hit back after break

Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 1:28 AM - by Chris Pike
EAST Perth wingman Freddie Clutterbuck is looking forward to returning in the WA Day derby on Monday against West Perth and is confident that the State game break came at the right time for the Royals to regroup and get their 2015 WAFL season back on track. The Royals have made the last two grand finals and were looking on track to be a contender again this season following wins in Rounds 2 and 3 over Swan Districts and Subiaco. Despite a 103-point win over Perth in Round 6, things haven’t gone to plan since and heading into the State game break East Perth had lost three straight matches, including having kicked two goals only in the last five quarters starting against West Perth and then against Claremont. Clutterbuck injured a quadriceps muscle in the second half of the loss to West Perth and didn’t play against Claremont where the Royals kicked just 2.9, their lowest ever score against the Tigers. Dell'Olio shines in WAFL forward-line in win over SANFL

Wednesday, May 27, 2015 - 12:16 PM - by Chris Pike
CORY Dell'Olio likely played his best game of the year on return to the WAFL in Saturday's State game win over South Australia and now he is looking to continue that form for South Fremantle in WA Day's Foundation Derby as the Bulldogs look to get back on the winner's list. Dell'Olio was a late addition to the WA squad to take on the SANFL in Saturday's eventual 45-point State game win at Lathlain Park, but in the end his second time representing his state proved a day to remember. He previously played for WA in 2011 against Queensland before the South Fremantle premiership forward spent the last three years in the AFL with Essendon. The 25-year-old has returned to the Bulldogs this year and on Saturday formed part of a terrific forward-line for WA alongside Simpson Medallist Ryan Davis, Shane Yarran, Tony Notte, Clancy Wheeler and Lachlan Delahunty. Wednesday, May 27, 2015 - 10:33 AM - by Chris Pike
ANDREW Strijk has plenty of highlights throughout his decade-long career but his two best State game memories have now been wins over South Australia following Western Australia's 45-point win at Lathlain Park on Saturday.  Strijk has now played 155 games for West Perth since making his WAFL debut in 2006 and he added 13 matches in the AFL with the West Coast Eagles, and has now represented the WAFL four times in State matches. And along the way he has become a WAFL premiership player, won a West Perth fairest and best awards and had plenty of career highlights, but the wins over the SANFL in State matches are right up there. Strijk was part of the WA team that beat South Australia by a point in 2009 to break a 15-year drought and then again on Saturday, he starred in WA's 45-point win over the Croweaters at Lathlain Park.
