Round 22 Reserves and Colts WrapThursday, August 24, 2017 - 7:25 AM - by Chris Pike

THE penultimate round of WAFL reserves action on Saturday set the stage for Subiaco to play for third spot in Round 23 and Swan Districts host East Fremantle in an elimination final while in the colts, the top five teams are set but the order below the Sharks remains up in the air.

Saturday's reserves matches saw Claremont defeat Swan Districts 10.11 (71) to 8.10 (58) at Steel Blue Oval, East Fremantle beat Peel Thunder 14.10 (94) to 7.9 (51) at East Fremantle Oval, Perth down East Perth 10.14 (74) to 4.4 (28) at Lathlain Park and Subiaco prevail 20.9 (129) to 5.10 (40) against West Perth at Leederville Oval.

South Fremantle (15-4) is still clear on top of the reserves ladder guaranteed of finishing there and of having the break in the opening week of the finals.

Claremont (13-6) is guaranteed of finishing in second position as well and Perth (11-9) sits third but has the last round bye. The fourth placed Subiaco (10-9) can move into third if they win this Saturday against the bottom placed East Perth.

Swan Districts (9-10) sits in fifth position but that spot goes on the line up against East Fremantle (9-10) this Saturday at Steel Blue Oval. The winner will play finals and the loser will miss out.

Peel Thunder (7-12), West Perth (6-13) and East Perth (6-13) are all out of finals contention in the reserves.

The colts matches on Saturday then saw Claremont beat Swan Districts 5.8 (38) to 3.4 (22), East Fremantle down Peel Thunder 8.11 (59) to 8.5 (53), East Perth defeat Perth 8.18 (66) to 8.3 (51) and West Perth beat Subiaco 12.9 (81) to 8.10 (58). 

East Fremantle (14-5) is guaranteed now of the minor premiership and a break in the opening week of the finals.

Claremont (12-7) is looking good in second spot but still needs to beat West Perth in the final round to guarantee that spot because Swan Districts (11-1-7) remains within striking distance in third position.

Peel Thunder (10-1-8) sits fourth but does need to win in the last round on Saturday to stay there ahead of the fifth placed East Perth (10-9).

The top five teams in the colts are set with Subiaco (8-11), South Fremantle (8-11), West Perth (8-11) and Perth (4-16) all out of contention.

STANDOUT RESERVES PERFORMERS
In the reserves clash at Steel Blue Oval, Claremont prevailed downing Swan Districts by 13 points.

Max Bentley was Claremont's only multiple goal scorer booting two to go with 20 possessions and six marks.

Tom Ledger also racked up 35 possessions for the Tigers, Matthew Davies 30, Jacob Sideris 26, Tom Shanahan 25, Harry Sinclair 23, Ben Higgs 17 and Luke Maddock 17.

Brayden Noble and Ethan Maguire kicked two goals apiece for Swans with Maguire also collecting 22 possessions.

Jackson Slater ended up with 27 disposals as well for Swans, Brandon Erceg 22, Chad Daniels 20, David McKay 17, Brayden Hackett 16, Jacob Ness 16 and Troy Yukich 55 hit outs.

East Fremantle had a strong win at East Fremantle Oval over Peel Thunder, winning by 43 points including the only four goals of the final quarter.

Tim Bristow returned to kick four goals for East Fremantle with Alex Montauban and Joe Iaria kicking two goals each.

Sean Henson racked up 37 possessions for the Sharks, Ben Harding 32, Tom Omodei 28, Jye Clements 25, Leon Pearton 22, Liam Strnadica 22, Zac McCarrey 18 and Jesse Mirco 18.

Ashley Humphries and Matthew Dean booted two goals each for the Thunder.

Brad Walsh amassed 27 disposals for Peel, Michael Humble 23, Corey Morris 19, Jackson Burkett 18, Dean 17, Jake Dowding 17 and Brad McGowan 16.

Perth set the tone for its league victory later in the day with a strong 46-point victory against East Perth at Lathlain Park.

Matt Thompson booted two goals for the Demons with Zareth Roe and Callum Papertalk kicking two apiece.

Nelson Ansey compiled 26 possessions for Perth, Jayden Johnstone 26, Marshall Jones 25, Zachary Hill 22, Sam Perkusich 21, Chris Leonard 19, Andries Mercer 19, Joseph Ugle 18 and John Levien 18 to go with 11 tackles.

Kristian Caporn kicked two of East Perth's four goals with Mitch Dobson amassing 32 possessions, Ben Miller 28, Josh Hewett 25, Taylor North 20, Harry Blanch 19 and Jobe Macshane 19.

Then in the reserves contest at Leederville Oval, Subiaco took out a big 89-point victory against West Perth.

Ryan Vermeersch kicked six goals for Subiaco, Ryan Borchet three, Daniel Perkins three, Liam Baker two and Dylan Clarke two.

Brayden Ainsworth racked up 27 possessions for the Lions, Perkins 23, Bailey Matera 22, Ryan Wade 21, Jacob Miller 17, Chad Barns 17 and McKenzie Lawrence 17.

Jacob Turner kicked two of West Perth's five goals for the contest.

Broderick Walton continued to press his claims for a league call up with 26 possessions, eight marks and a goal while Mitch Peirce also had 25 disposals for the Falcons, Martin Geraghty 19, Conal Lynch 18, Zac Guadagnin 18, Steve Potente 16 and ruckman Chris Keunen 16 along with four marks, 37 hit outs and a goal.
 
REDiMED COLTS SHINING LIGHTS
The colts contest started the day at Steel Blue Oval with Claremont beating Swan Districts by 16 points.

Josh Devitt-Boyd kicked two of Claremont's five goals for the game.

Jake Patmore delivered a remarkable performance for the Tigers racking up 48 possessions, nine inside-50 entries, six marks and six tackles.

Rylie Morgan also finished with 35 disposals, Callan England 32, Edward Aitken 25, Jordan Clarke 22, Lewis Davis 21, Rhett Lloyd 20, Addison Dew 19 and Cooper Nitschke 18.

Swan Districts goals came courtesy of Joseph Hinder, Brendan Shand and Atem Deng.

Jack O'Sullivan racked up 25 possessions for the black-and-whites, Gregory Ottaviano 24, Lochie Huntley 24, Riley Garcia 20, Graydon Wilson 19, Gregory Humphries 16 and Jarred Cameron 16.

Oskar Matthews worked hard in the ruck with 14 touches, five marks, four tackles and 27 hit outs.

East Fremantle won a tight contest over Peel Thunder in the colts at East Fremantle Oval winning by six points.

Brandon Collard kicked three goals for East Fremantle and Dwayne Nevill two.

Jayden Quill picked up 22 possessions for the Sharks, Chris Scott 20, Tom Eastaugh 18, Zachary Jackson 18, Corey Robinson 17, Milan Murdock 17 and Thomas Joyce 16.

Tyson Powell kicked three goals for Peel from seven kicks and four marks.

Jordan Boullineau gathered 19 disposals for the Thunder, Jakeb Shine 18, Jake Howes 18, Lachlan Mitchell 16 and ruckman Billy Chambers 11 to go with 27 hit outs and five marks.

East Perth's colts started the day strongly at Lathlain Park beating Perth by 15 points.

Christian Ameduri and Thomas Baulch kicked two goals apiece for the Royals.

Matthew Young amassed 28 possessions for East Perth, Nathan Arbon 25, Baulch 22, Damon Greave 20, Mitchell Gupanis 19, Louis Miller 17, Eric Bashemule 16 and Brandon Starcevich 16.

West Perth's colts opened the day at Leederville Oval beating Subiaco 12.9 (81) to 8.10 (58).

Dylan Yem kicked four goals for West Perth as did Tyrese Miller to go with 16 possessions and five marks. Alec Johnson also kicked two goals.

Lachlan Johns racked up 27 possessions for the Falcons, Nathan Murray 27, Thomas Medhat 19, Bailey Chalmers 19 and Thomas Boyes 15 to go with 11 tackles.

Jake Halligan kicked two of Subiaco's eight goals for the contest.

Kyron Hayden collected 29 possessions for the Lions, Thomas Edwards-Baldwin 24, Tristan Hobley 20, Luke Foley 19, Max Dennis 18, Nicholas Baroni 18 Liam Hickmott 16.
