WAFL Round 23 teams and previewsFriday, August 25, 2017 - 2:30 PM

IT is the final round of the 2017 WAFL season and it couldn’t possibly be more exciting with four teams remaining genuine chances of claiming the last two places in the top five in order to qualify for the finals.

Three of the four games on Saturday in Round 23 are virtual elimination finals contests.

Intriguingly the only game that won't have any impact on where teams finish to close the season features the second placed South Fremantle facing the third placed Peel Thunder at Bendigo Bank Stadium. They can't change positions but will also play one another next week in a qualifying final at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Then there is the three games where everything goes on the line with fourth and fifth positions at stake.

Swan Districts can secure fourth position up against East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval while East Perth can guarantee its finals position too with a win against Subiaco at Leederville Oval. But that would mean the Royals ending the Lions' 18-game winning streak.

The other game then features Claremont taking on West Perth at Claremont Oval.

If West Perth wins, the Falcons qualify for the finals if East Perth loses. Then if they win and Swans lose, they could still sneak in depending on percentage.

The only way Claremont can play finals is by beating West Perth and hoping East Perth loses, then hoping their percentage jumps above that of the Royals.

Simply put, if Swan Districts and East Perth win the race is over and they play finals. But if one or both lose, then suddenly everything will come down to the Claremont-West Perth clash.
