Falcons great Harris feeling at home at Tigerland already

AS a great of the West Perth Football Club, Darren Harris was unsure about coaching another WAFL club before accepting the role at Claremont but he already feels at home with the Tigers. Harris arrived at West Perth in 1992 from the Wodonga Bulldogs in the Ovens & Murray Football League and made an immediate, and lasting impact. He went on to play 109 games with the Falcons over the next five seasons and in 1995, he had a year that only dreams are made of.  Read More ...


WAFL rivals compete for Polly Farmer Shield

WAFL rivals East Perth Football Club and West Perth Football Club will compete for the annual Polly Farmer Shield this Sunday, March 16 at HBF Arena to recognise and celebrate Farmer’s success as one of the greatest players at each club. The clash will be live on 7Mate from 1.30pm. WAFL General Manager Steve Hargrave said the Polly Farmer Shield is a fitting tribute to the WA Football and Australian Football Hall of Fame Legend. Outstanding contribution to WA Football recognised

In recognition of her amazing contribution to the WA football industry, East Fremantle Football Club in conjunction with the West Coast Eagles, made a special presentation to Judi Miles on Saturday at the East Fremantle President’s Lunch. Judi, a mad-keen West Coast Eagles supporter, will be flown to Melbourne for the ANZAC Day weekend. Travelling with the playing group, Judi will stay at the team hotel and attend the VIP lunch at the MCG on Saturday April 22, before heading to the Hawthorn vs West Coast game. Read More ...


Round 1 Reserves and Colts Wrap

ROUND 1 of the 2017 WAFL season on Saturday saw plenty of strong performances across the Reserves and RediMed Colts fixtures. Saturday's reserves fixtures saw East Fremantle defeat Claremont 15.9 (99); East Perth beat Peel Thunder 20.14 (134) to 8.8 (56); Subiaco down South Fremantle in a thriller 9.12 (66) to 9.11 (65) and Perth prevail over Swan Districts 16.5 (101) to 8.3 (51). And in the RediMed Colts, East Fremantle beat Claremont 6.16 (52) to 7.3 (45); Peel Thunder downed East Perth 13.13 (91) to 6.7 (43); South Fremantle defeated Subiaco 9.6 (60) to 7.7 (49) and Swan Districts won over Perth 6.18 (54) to 4.3 (27). The Saturday action saw Swan Districts defeat Perth 12.11 (83) to 11.5 (71); Claremont beat East Fremantle 19.9 (123) to 9.7 (61); South Fremantle down Subiaco 17.14 (116) to 11.11 (77) and Peel Thunder prevail over East Perth 7.11 (53) to 4.12 (36). Bristow teams up with WAFC to run writing contest

Published children’s author, Aquinas School Teacher, and East Fremantle WAFL player Tim Bristow has teamed up with the WA Football Commission to run a Footy Writing Competition in schools to help students prepare for the upcoming NAPLAN tests. It is particularly aimed at getting students who are more interested in Sport and Football to engage with writing. Tim has written an opening paragraph to help the students get started. They must begin their story in this way (they may change the names), and then use their imagination to finish using up to 1000 words. Read More ...


Swan Districts and Danny Green join forces

Proud West Australian and four-time World Champion professional boxer Danny Green will join Swan Districts FC on Saturday, March 25 to help the club kick off its 'Stop the Coward’s Punch' Game against South Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval. "I'm very pleased to be working with Swan Districts FC on bringing the Coward's Punch Campaign to the community via the WAFL," Green said. "The work put into this inaugural event by Ross, Jenny and all the great people at Swan Districts is testament to the depth of feeling within the community to stop these terrible acts, and the horrendous outcomes, for the families involved." Sickened by a string of fatal one punch attacks around the country, Danny decided enough was enough and created his 'Stop the Coward's Punch' Campaign highlighting the effects of violence on the victim, the perpetrator and their families. PEEL Thunder managed five unanswered goals in the third quarter at Leederville Oval on Saturday night to ensure they started their WAFL premiership defence with a 17-point win over East Perth. There was plenty of intrigue over the Saturday night fixture at Leederville Oval to open the 2017 season with it also broadcast live on 7mate. SOUTH Fremantle couldn’t have started the 2017 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season in more impressive fashion defeating Subiaco by 39 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday. South Fremantle and Subiaco finished 2016 as the top two teams after the home and away season before meeting in the second semi-final with the Lions winning on the way to a third successive WAFL grand final appearance. That was Subiaco's sixth straight win over South Fremantle but the Bulldogs turned that around to open the 2017 season on Saturday with an impressive 17.14 (116) to 11.11 (77) victory. PERTH made a flying start with eight first quarter goals but Swan Districts took over from there to record a 12-point Round 1 WAFL victory on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval. Both teams occupied the bottom two spots on the ladder at the end of the 2016 season, so getting off to a fast start was going to be important as they look to make dramatic improvements in 2017. CLAREMONT has made a statement in Round 1 of the 2017 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season under new coach Darren Harris beating East Fremantle by 62 points at East Fremantle Oval. East Fremantle and Claremont both narrowly missed out on playing finals in 2016 and were looking to make a winning start to 2017 to build some momentum. THE WAFL's broadcast match for Round 1 of the 2017 McDonald's Premiership Season looks set to be a beauty between East Perth and Peel Thunder with both clubs full of players pushing their case for the AFL's opening round too. Leederville Oval will play host to the contest on Saturday with bounce down set for 7.05pm making it just the second ever televised night match from a traditional WAFL venue.  Last year, Subiaco and South Fremantle played in a broadcast match also from Leederville Oval on a Thursday night. South Fremantle v Subiaco Round 1 Preview

SOUTH Fremantle and Subiaco finished in the top two spots at the end of last season and there's every reason to expect them to be contenders again in 2017 ahead of their Round 1 clash at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. The Bulldogs and Lions were locked in a battle over the minor premiership for a lot of 2016, but ultimately Subiaco won that race with a 16-4 record just ahead of South Fremantle who finished on 15-5. That set up an eventual second semi-final clash between the two clubs at Leederville Oval with the Lions continuing their good run over the Bulldogs to advance to a third straight grand final.
