WAFL State team honoured at special function

The players, coaches, umpires and support staff of the victorious Carlton Draught WAFL State team were feted at a special function hosted by the West Australian Football Commission. Hon Mick Murray MLA, Minister for Sport and Recreation, attended the function held at Domain Stadium on Monday night and congratulated all involved in WA’s historic 63-point victory over the VFL in Melbourne. Round 13 Reserves and Colts Wrap

SOUTH Fremantle remain clear on top of the WAFL Reserves ladder following another good win on Saturday against West Perth while East Fremantle is still leading the REDiMED Colts after Round 13 action. The Round 13 reserves results on Saturday saw Claremont defeat Swan Districts 12.8 (80) to 10.7 (67) at Claremont Oval, Perth down East Fremantle 9.10 (64) to 6.18 (54) at East Fremantle Oval, Subiaco thrash East Perth 18.17 (125) to 7.8 (50) at Leederville Oval and South Fremantle prevail over West Perth 14.8 (92) to 9.9 (63) at HBF Arena. The reserves leave South Fremantle (10-2) clear on top of the ladder ahead of Claremont (8-3), Perth (7-5), Subiaco (6-6) and East Fremantle (5-6). Read More ...

A HOST of young and unheralded players stood tall to lead East Fremantle to its first victory of 2017 while a couple of Claremont forwards and South Fremantle midfielders booted four goals apiece as did Subiaco livewire Liam Ryan as just some of the Round 13 standout performances. Round 13 of the 2017 WAFL season all took place on Saturday afternoon beginning with East Fremantle's breakthrough win of the season, beating Perth 19.17 (131) to 11.7 (73) at East Fremantle Oval with a whole host of players standing up. Claremont made it consecutive wins beating Swan Districts 16.14 (110) to 6.7 (43) at Claremont Oval with Beau Maister and Chris Oakley kicking four goals each, and Jye Bolton outstanding. Social female footy carnival a success

More than 140 women from seven football clubs took part in the first ever social female football carnival hosted by the West Australian Football Commission on Sunday, June 11. Women aged 18 years and over from ECU Jets, Cottesloe Hens, Curtin Wesley, Forrestdale, Gosnells, University and West Coast AFC enjoyed the round-robin carnival which has been slightly modified to support participants. Landmark Country Championships kick off

Regional matches took place across country WA over the weekend as part of the Landmark Country Championships. This included games in Mandurah, Merredin, Manjimup, Gnowangerup, Moora and Northam. Matches will be played in the metropolitan area between July 6 and 9, with five Colts sides to fight it out in Mandurah and seniors teams to play in Perth on Saturday, July 8 and 9.  Read More ...

EAST Fremantle broke through for its first win of 2017, Subiaco made it 11 straight, South Fremantle consolidated second spot and Claremont made it consecutive victories on a massive day of Round 13 WAFL action on Saturday. The Round 13 WAFL action on Saturday afternoon got underway at East Fremantle Oval with East Fremantle hunting its first win of the season and to move within a game of leapfrogging Perth to get off the bottom of the ladder. The Demons started well to lead by 23 points at half-time, but the Sharks delivered their best half of the season from there with 14 goals to two after the break to end up winning 19.17 (131) to 11.7 (73). DEPPRO WA State 18s defeated by Vic Metro

The DEPPRO WA State 18s were defeated by Victoria Metro in their second game of the NAB AFL National Championships at Domain Stadium today, Sunday June 18. After a promising start that saw key forward Oscar Allen from West Perth kick the opening goal of the game, Vic Metro hit back to level the scores and then extended their lead at each break to claim a 38-point win 14.12 (96) to 9.4 (58). ALL four WAFL matches in Round 13 on Saturday afternoon have plenty at stake for all eight teams involved as we start to head towards the business end of the 2017 season. Round 13 gets underway with the battle of the two struggling teams of 2017 with the winless East Fremantle hosting the second last placed Perth at East Fremantle Oval. The game gets underway from 1.40pm and will be live on 7mate with the Sharks looking for a first win of 2017, and the Demons for their third and to snap a three-game losing run. Forward-turned-defender Hamp reaches 100 with Tigers

THERE is more reason for Claremont to celebrate in its second game back at the redeveloped Claremont Oval this Saturday with forward-turned-defender Anton Hamp reaching his 100-game milestone with the Tigers. Hamp came through as a talented colts player at Claremont, was picked up by West Coast as a rookie in 2011 and was viewed as a key forward the Tigers could build upon in the future. The problem was when he was receiving his first chances in 2011 and 2012, it was a dominant Claremont team and that was nowhere more so than in a forward-line that included Chad Jones, Beau Maister, Tom Lee, Paul Medhurst, Ian Richardson and Gerrick Weedon. WA goal umpire hangs up flags

West Australian goal umpire Matt Laycock has called time on his distinguished career after umpiring 161 WAFL and 45 AFL matches. Laycock officiated his final game of football at the Swan Districts and West Perth WAFL league clash last weekend and looks back on his career with WA Football Commission Umpiring Pathway Manager Tim Priest. EAST Fremantle regained top spot in the REDiMED Colts on Saturday with a win over Claremont while South Fremantle maintained its hold on first place in the Reserves with a big win over Peel Thunder. Round 12 in the reserves started on Saturday with Claremont beating East Fremantle 9.9 (63) to 8.11 (59) at Claremont Oval, Subiaco downing Perth 23.14 (152) to 8.10 (58) at Lathlain Park and South Fremantle thrashing Peel Thunder 25.14 (164) to 7.2 (44) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
