Swans umpire reaches 800-game milestone

55-year-old umpire Peter Williams stepped out onto the footy field for the 800th time on Sunday, May 21 to umpire the Year 7 match between Upper Swan and Bassendean at Swan Athletic Oval. Williams has become a household name in the Swan Districts Junior umpiring community and has provided enormous on and off field leadership to many young umpires who have come through the system, including WAFL and AFL umpires Ryan Shelton, Brett Rogers and Ben and Matt Laycock. It was a very special moment for Williams who was congratulated at the end the match by Perth-based AFL umpire and WA Football Commission Umpire Development Manager Dean Margetts. Read More ...


Carlton Draught WAFL State Team set to take on the Big V

THE Carlton Draught WAFL State Team departs for Melbourne today ahead of this Saturday’s clash with the VFL at North Port Oval. The game will be televised live on Channel 7 from 12pm WA time on Saturday, May 27. A final squad of 24 players was selected following last night’s training session, with Subiaco captain Kyal Horsley named State captain. Football program kicking goals for Indian community

Kids from an Indian background between the ages of 5 and 12 got given the opportunity to learn the basics of football as part of the inaugural Indian Society of WA (ISWA) Kids football program. The six-week program, developed by the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) in partnership with the ISWA, is the first of its kind in Perth. It aims to expose Indian communities in WA to AFL and connect them to their local football club. More than 45 participants took part in the program, which was delivered at Burrendah Park (Willetton) and Hilcrest Reserve (Bayswater) over six Sundays. Read More ...

ROUND 10 of the WAFL saw Subiaco, West Perth, East Perth and Peel Thunder all continue their winning ways heading into the state game break with a career best five goals from Falcons veteran Andrew Strijk among the highlights. Subiaco won its eighth straight game to head into the break two games clear on top of the ladder winning a good battle with the undefeated East Fremantle, 15.18 (108) to 11.11 (77) at Leederville Oval. East Perth pulled off a remarkable comeback victory to win a fourth straight game downing South Fremantle 10.11 (71) to 10.10 (70) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. Read More ...

The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC), WA Country Football League (WACFL) and Central Midlands Coastal Football League (CMCFL) have applied the maximum penalty under the competition’s by-laws to Cervantes Football Club (CFC) President Dale Simmons. Mr Simmons has been fined $1000 for the disrespectful comments he made on his public social media account towards women involved with football, the proceeds of which the CMCFL will allocate towards female football development in the region. Mr Simmons has also agreed to stand down as Cervantes Football Club President and will be replaced immediately by committee member Rayelene Wright. The WAFC will also work closely with the WACFL, CMCFL and CFC to deliver the AFL Respect and Responsibility education program to club members and participants to ensure safe and inclusive environments are provided for women. Mundella WA 18s kick off NAB AFLW Championships

The Mundella WA 18s split their results in the opening two games of the NAB AFLW 18s National Championships in Sydney over the weekend. After starting with a huge 87-point win against NSW/ACT at Sydney's Blacktown International Sports Park on Saturday, the WA players couldn't repeat the performance on Sunday when they lost a tough contest against Queensland by nine points. Peel Thunderbirds player Kate Bartlett lead the way on the scoreboard with seven goals in game one but was restricted to a solitary major in the game against Queensland.  Courtney Hodder and Rosie Deegan were among WA's best players in both games, while McKenzie Dowrick, Sabreena Duffy, Mikayla Bowen, Sarah Garstone and Mikaela Schoenfeld were also stand-out performers. Carlton Draught WAFL State Squad of 27

The Carlton Draught WAFL State squad has been narrowed down to 27 players ahead of this Saturday's interstate clash with the VFL at North Port Oval in Melbourne. The game starts at 12.10pm WA time and will be broadcast live on Channel 7. The squad of 27 includes 18 with previous State Game experience and 14 who have been AFL-listed, including Leroy Jetta who played 93 games for Essendon. Aaron Black (West Perth) and Jye Bolton (Claremont) are Sandover Medallists and Kyle Anderson (East Perth), Ryan Cook (South Fremantle) and Kyal Horsley (Subiaco), are all WAFL club captains. WET and chilly weather greeted the WAFL for the first time this season and produced some terrific contests with East Perth storming home to beat South Fremantle, Subiaco surviving East Fremantle and West Perth and Peel Thunder scoring big wins. It was the final round of the WAFL before next Saturday's state game as well that will see Western Australia take on the VFL at Melbourne's North Port Oval. There was plenty at stake both in terms of players trying to book their spot in that team to represent the WAFL while ensuring their team headed into the general bye with some winning momentum. Perth might have won just two games so far in 2017, but the Demons have shown vast improvement on last season in terms of their competitiveness and that shone through in a last gasp win over Claremont last Saturday. Harris will always be a legend of the West Perth Football Club as a premiership captain, Simpson Medal winner and premiership coach.
