HORRIBLE weather conditions on Saturday set the scene for Subiaco's Kyal Horsley and Leigh Kitchin, Swan Districts' David Ellard and Adam Faulkner, Claremont's Jye Bolton and East Perth's Patrick McGinnity to shine, but it was a string of big men and a Peel premiership defender who also starred. The worst weather of the season greeted all eight clubs in the four games on Saturday afternoon but it did produce some fascinating and important results. Subiaco held off West Perth at HBF Arena to win 6.11 (47) to 4.12 (36). It was a 12th straight win for the Lions on the back of strong midfield efforts from Horsley and Kitchin.  Read More ...


WAFL Round 15 match reports

THE worst weather conditions of the WAFL season to date greeted the teams involved in Round 15 action on Saturday with Subiaco making it 12 straight, Peel Thunder three straight, Swan Districts two in-a-row and East Perth winning big to stay in the finals hunt. Wet, cold and windy conditions might have limited the goal scoring and free-flowing play across the four matches on Saturday in Round 15 of the 2017 season, but it certainly didn’t minimise the drama, competitiveness or intrigue with three of the games going right down to the wire. West Perth hosted its annual International Football Festival at HBF Arena with the terrible weather conditions meaning the crowd that has regularly turned out for the event was kept away, but the Falcons and Subiaco still put in another tough and bruising affair. Deppro WA State 18s defeat Vic Country

The Deppro WA State 18s defeated Victoria Country by 29 points in their final game of the 2017 NAB AFL National Championships at Etihad Stadium on Friday June 30. In a great team effort, WA got off to a strong start and fought off a Vic Country comeback in the second half to see their hard work pay off with their third win of the four-round Championships. WA were led by hard running from Jake Patmore (32 disposals), Brayden Ainsworth (27), Tom Joyce (22) and Callan England (22), as well as great rebound from defense by co-captain Aaron Naughton and Jaxon Cahill and a solid all-round contribution from Brandon Starcevich (22 disposals and 8 tackles). WAFL Round 15 teams and previews

WEST Perth, Claremont and East Perth face crucial Round 15 WAFL matches as the battle for fifth position heats up with them taking on Subiaco, Peel Thunder and East Fremantle respectively. The Falcons have now lost their past two matches so need to win on Saturday to avoid the prospect of slipping outside the top five with the Tigers and Royals needing to win to keep pressure on for those finals spots. THE Deppro WA State 18s play Victoria Country at Etihad Stadium in their final game of the 2017 NAB AFL National 18s Championships on Friday, June 30. The game starts at 12.10pm WA time and will be televised live on FOX Footy. The WA side is coming off a 40-point win over the Allies at Leederville Oval last Sunday while Vic Country will be aiming to bounce back from a 22-point loss to Victoria Metro on Saturday. WAFC ‘Design-a-Jumper’ competition winners announced

THE schools couldn’t be further apart but Halls Creek District Primary School and Glen Forrest Primary School now have something in common after their students won this year’s West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) ‘Design a Jumper’ competition. The competition, which is run by the WAFC in partnership with Burley Sekem, encourages primary school students to design a football jumper that reflects their school’s ethos and incorporates local landmarks or traditions. Milena Mosquito from Halls Creek Primary School and Angie Regan from Glen Forrest Primary School were announced as the metropolitan and regional winners respectively from more than 120 entries. Round 14 Reserves and Colts Wrap

SOUTH Fremantle remains clear on top of the WAFL Reserves despite a loss to Perth on Sunday while Peel Thunder returned to the top of the REDiMED Colts by beating East Fremantle on Saturday. The three reserves matches on Saturday saw West Perth defeat Claremont 17.11 (113) to 4.5 (29) at Claremont Oval, Peel Thunder beat East Fremantle 15.7 (97) to 13.12 (90) at East Fremantle Oval and Swan Districts down East Perth 17.12 (114) to 10.6 (66) at Steel Blue Oval. THERE were players kicking bags of nine, seven, six and five goals in Round 14 of the WAFL while the likes of Jamie Bennell, Haiden Schloithe, Rory O'Brien and Ryan Lim were among those who put in starring performances in important victories for their sides. There were three Round 14 WAFL matches on Saturday afternoon with Swan Districts beating East Perth 14.6 (90) to 9.10 (64) at Steel Blue Oval with Ricky Cary booting seven goals and Swans cementing their place in the top five. Claremont held on in a nail-biter to beat West Perth 14.6 (90) to 12.16 (88) at Claremont Oval with the Tigers making it three straight wins despite the Falcons having a shot to win the game after the siren. Multi-sport program engages at-risk youth in Armadale

More than 400 disconnected at-risk youth have been linked to social support services through a new sports program delivered in partnership with the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC). The WAFC joined forces with the City of Armadale, Telstra, Headspace, YMCA and Netball WA and launched NightFields, a four-week multi-sport program, at Gwynne Park in Armadale last month. WAFL Round 14 match reports

THERE were three big WAFL matches in Round 14 on Saturday afternoon with Peel Thunder, Swan Districts and Claremont all winning to improve their positions in the finals race before South Fremantle came from behind to thrash Perth on Sunday. With seven teams still alive in the race for spots in the top five and with Subiaco well clear on top and South Fremantle looking steady in second, that leaves five teams right now looking to be battling over three of those positions. Deppro WA State 18s defeat Allies

The Deppro WA State 18s recorded their second victory of the NAB AFL National Championships with a 40-point win over the Allies at Leederville Oval today, June 25. Western Australia defeated the Allies, consisting of the best players from the NAB AFL Academy Series, 12.12 (84) to to 6.8 (44). WA controlled the play early, with Claremont’s Callan England collecting 13 possessions in the first quarter on his way to a game-high 26. Jaxon Cahill (East Perth) and Brayden Ainsworth (Subiaco) had 23 disposals each. However, WA didn’t make an impact on the scoreboard until the second quarter when Ian Hill (Perth) and Oliver Eastland (Claremont) both kicked their second goals to extend WA’s lead to 25 points at half time.
