RediMed Colts Jack Clarke Medal winner

Thursday, September 3, 2015 - 12:58 PM
East Perth’s Stan Wright was last night named 2015 winner of the RediMed Colts Jack Clarke Medal with a total of 42 votes. Wright finished nine votes ahead of West Perth’s Clint Hinchliffe on 33, while Peel Thunder’s Keegan Power came third with 31 votes during the medal count dinner at Domain Stadium. WAFL Talent Manager Raff Guadagnino said Wright was the first 17-year-old winner of the medal in recent history after being a very competitive and dynamic player for East Perth this season. “He has shown the ability to win clearances and contested ball, which has made him a standout midfielder in 2015,” Guadagnino said. Thunder skipper Jones excited for finals debut 218 games in the making

Wednesday, September 2, 2015 - 9:30 AM - by Chris Pike
AFTER 218 games at Perth and Peel, Brendon Jones had every right to think he would never get the chance to play in a WAFL final but that will now all change this Sunday for the Thunder captain against West Perth at HBF Arena. Ever since making his league debut at Perth in 2004, Jones has been one of the best, hardest working and most consistent midfielders in the competition and he's won three fairest and best awards along the way, but what he has been craving desperately is finals success. The closest he came in 101 games in Perth was in his final season of 2009 when the Demons just missed out on fourth position by one game, while at Peel in his previous five years the Thunder have never managed to finished better than second last. Round 23 McDonald's WAFL Wrap Up

Monday, August 31, 2015 - 11:36 PM - by Chris Pike
WITH Peel Thunder beating South Fremantle to lock in third position and keep East Perth fourth, the only match with anything riding on the result on Saturday in the final round of the WAFL season featured West Perth and Claremont at HBF Arena. Claremont needed to win to make the finals and to knock out Swan Districts from fifth position with Swans having the bye, but West Perth had not lost at home so far in 2015 and led by 25 points at the 10-minute mark of the final quarter. However, the Tigers then kicked the last four goals of the game to win 9.15 (69) to 10.7 (67) to move into fifth position and end the season of Swan Districts in dramatic fashion. The other three games on Saturday saw Subiaco beat East Perth 9.13 (67) to 9.9 (63) at Medibank Stadium, Peel Thunder down South Fremantle 16.12 (108) to 9.15 (69) at Bendigo Bank Stadium and East Fremantle snap a 12-game losing run to defeat Perth 15.15 (105) to 7.10 (52) at ATOM Stadium. Round 23 McDonald's WAFL Results

Saturday, August 29, 2015 - 7:44 PM - by Chris Pike
AS fate would have it, the only game in the last WAFL round on Saturday to impact finals positions turned out to be the heart stopper and it was Claremont who kicked the last four goals against West Perth to storm home to win and book a place in the finals. That shattered the hopes of Swan Districts who had beaten Claremont last week to move into fifth position, and the black-and-whites would have played finals if West Perth beat the Tigers again at HBF Arena on Saturday. West Perth had won all nine of its games at home so far this season and led Claremont by 24 points at the nine-minute mark of the last quarter, but the Tigers then booted the last four goals of the contest to win 9.15 (69) to 10.7 (67). Saturday's other three final round matches saw Peel Thunder beat South Fremantle 16.12 (108) to 9.15 (69) at Bendigo Bank Stadium, Subiaco down East Perth 9.13 (67) to 9.9 (63) at Medibank Stadium and East Fremantle defeat Perth 15.15 (105) to 7.10 (52) at ATOM Stadium. McDonald's WAFL Round 23 Preview

Friday, August 28, 2015 - 4:19 PM - by Chris Pike
ROUND 23 of the WAFL season sees Claremont fighting for its place in the finals needing to beat West Perth to replace Swan Districts in the top five while Peel Thunder also needs to defeat South Fremantle to consolidate third position and a finals double chance. All focus will be on HBF Arena with Swan Districts having the bye and needing West Perth to beat Claremont to remain in the finals, while the only way the Tigers can replace Swans in fifth position is by handing the Falcons their first defeat at home this season. Peel Thunder can then guarantee third position and a finals double chance with a win over South Fremantle at Bendigo Bank Stadium. If South Fremantle wins, then East Perth can claim third position from Peel if the Royals defeat Subiaco in the battle of the Medibank Stadium co-tenants. The other match in the last round then features the bottom two teams, East Fremantle and Perth at ATOM Stadium. Read More ...

Sharks skipper hopes for long overdue win in 200th game

Friday, August 28, 2015 - 12:27 AM - by Chris Pike
EAST Fremantle's season might have not gone to plan, but the Sharks will now look to finish on a positive note at ATOM Stadium on Saturday against Perth with captain Rory O'Brien celebrating his 200th WAFL game. East Fremantle might be heading into the clash with the wooden spoon bound Demons on a 12-game losing streak, but their skipper is one player who can hold his head high for the way he has continued to try and lead the Sharks from the front all season long. O'Brien could very well be on his way to winning another fairest and best award with East Fremantle that would give him four in five years at the Sharks after he moved from Peel Thunder where he also claimed two fairest and best awards during his 92-game career. Richo earns life membership but focus fully on Tigers' win

Friday, August 28, 2015 - 12:00 AM - by Chris Pike
IAN Richardson adds another terrific achievement to a growing list of accolades at Claremont this Saturday, but it all takes a back seat to the Tigers needing to beat West Perth at HBF Arena in order to play finals. Richardson will play his 150th game with Claremont to earn life membership at the club he will forever be remembered as one of the most decorated players having starred in two premierships, won a fairest and best award, been leading goalkicker two times, representing Western Australia on six occasions and winning a Simpson Medal. Not only that, but the left-footed half-forward has been a favourite of the Tigers faithful ever since making his debut in 2008 and now the 27-year-old reaches the 150-game milestone this Saturday when Claremont hits HBF Arena in a must-win contest against West Perth.
