WAFC leads the way for young aspiring multicultural umpires

More than 50 students from diverse backgrounds had the opportunity to experience life as an AFL umpire and test their umpiring skills at Domain Stadium on Wednesday, November 18, as part of the Umpiring Diversity Academy Program. Students from Clontarf College, Coodanup College, Gilmore College and Cecil Andrews Senior High School took part in field, goal and boundary umpiring clinics over the six-week program headed by Umpire Development Manager Dean Margetts, Senior Competitions Talent Pathways Manager Tim Priest and WAFL Umpire Manager Darryl Sinclair. New appointments made to enhance State Talent

The West Australian Football Commission has appointed former Fremantle Football Club State Recruiting Manager Adam Jones as WAFC State Talent Manager. Jones will lead the WAFC talent portfolio supported by former WAFC Schools Competitions Manager Clayton Anderson, who has been appointed as Talent Programs Coordinator. Jones has worked in recruiting roles for the past eight years based both in Melbourne and Perth and worked as Fremantle’s State Recruiting Manager since 2012. Read More ...

THE West Australian Football Commission congratulates the WAFL players selected in the 2015 NAB AFL National Draft in Adelaide tonight. They included number 8 Callum Ah Chee (South Fremantle), 34 Joshua Schoenfeld (Peel Thunder), 35 Marcus Adams (West Perth), 60 Declan Mountford (Claremont), 61 Shane Yarran (Subiaco), 66 Sam Menegola (Subiaco) and 67 Nathan Broad (Swan Districts). Talented Swan Districts player Yestin Eades, who played under permit for the North Ballarat Rebels in 2015, was also selected at number 64 by Essendon. Read More ...

Eight of the WAFL's top players who were tested at the AFL National Draft Combine in Melbourne in October face a nervous wait ahead of the 2015 NAB AFL Draft. South Fremantle FC's Callum Ah Chee separates himself from some of his fellow draft hopefuls with his aerial exploits. It was the 18-year-old's spectacular screamer for the NAB AFL Academy side against the Northern Blues at the MCG in April that made him a social media star. THE West Australian Football Commission is delighted to announce that Life Membership will be awarded to long-serving football identity Laurie Kennedy. Mr Kennedy will be inducted at the WAFC Life Members’ Association Christmas Luncheon to be held on Monday, December 7 at Domain Stadium. Induction to the WAFC Life Members’ Association is regarded as the WAFC’s highest level of recognition, distinct from life membership awarded by individual football clubs and associated bodies, and is awarded to individuals who have made an outstanding overall contribution to football. West Australian Football Commission election results

The results of elections for Commissioners of the West Australian Football Commission were endorsed on Wednesday November 18, at a meeting of the Nominee Members of the WAFC (WA’s AFL and WAFL Clubs). Current WAFC Chairman, Murray McHenry, and Deputy Chair Stuart Love were each reappointed for terms of three years. Jon Carson was appointed for a three year term and Hon. Cheryl Edwardes for a one year term to replace outgoing Commissioners Frank Cooper AO and Rob McKenzie, who retire on 31 December 2015 after each serving their maximum nine year terms.   Read More ...

WA Football Commission builds strong culture through Top Club

The WA Football Commission, the WA Sports Federation, Department of Sport and Recreation and another seven of Western Australia’s largest sporting associations have been supporting sporting clubs around the State with tools to develop a strong culture. The ‘Changing Attitudes to Alcohol through Sport’ (CAATS) project commenced in 2012 to encourage clubs to recognise, adopt and live by responsible and appropriate behaviours through successful planning. CAATS has introduced an online planning tool called Top Club that has seen over 259 (95 metropolitan and 164 regional) clubs throughout Western Australia participate in facilitated sessions.
