Monday, August 14, 2017 - 9:47 AM - by Chris Pike
WEST Perth kept its WAFL finals hopes alive with a hard-earned yet less than spectacular 13-point win over East Fremantle at HBF Arena on Saturday.   West Perth had to overcome a goalless first quarter and a one-goal first half with East Fremantle leading by as much as 24 points at HBF Arena on Saturday, but with the Falcons' season on the line they found a way to win.   On the back of some impressive football in the third quarter where West Perth kicked five goals to no score, it was enough to set up the crucial 8.15 (63) to 7.8 (50) victory. SOUTH Fremantle was better able to take its chances with the breeze at Claremont Oval on Saturday to win by 32 points and make it eight in-a-row and all but end the finals hopes of Claremont in the process.   South Fremantle came into the clash at Claremont Oval unable to move from second position on the ladder but there were plenty of pressure on for spots at the Bulldogs meaning no player in the 22 will be looking to drop their form over the last three weeks.   Meanwhile, Claremont just had to win to stay a realistic finals chance in 2017 setting the stage for a terrific contest. Monday, August 14, 2017 - 8:52 AM - by Chris Pike
REIGNING WAFL premiers Peel Thunder did enough to come away with a solid 21-point victory against the bottom placed Perth at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday to remain in third position.   Once again Perth did start impressively kicking the game's first two goals and leading by five points at quarter-time. That has become a trend for the Demons all season long and it again gave them some hope of a third win of the season on Saturday in Mandurah against the reigning premiers.   That would have taken Perth off the bottom of the ladder potentially for good this season but Peel was able to respond with seven goals to three during the second and third quarters to open enough of a gap to set up the win.
