THERE were some exciting names performing strongly in Round 1 WAFL Colts action to open the 2018 season with some new and familiar faces alike helping Subiaco, Peel Thunder, Claremont and Swan Districts score victories.
Three of the four Round 1 WAFL Colts matches took place on Good Friday and they saw Subiaco defeat East Perth 19.11 (125) to 7.10 (52) at Leederville Oval.
Peel Thunder beat East Fremantle 11.12 (78) to 8.5 (53) at Bendigo Bank Stadium and Claremont overran West Perth at HBF Arena, to win 12.6 (78) to 8.13 (61).
The round concluded on Saturday with Swan Districts beating Perth 11.9 (75) to 10.3 (63).

Round 2 sees all four matches take place on Saturday this week with East Fremantle facing Perth, East Perth taking on West Perth, Swan Districts facing Peel Thunder and South Fremantle playing Subiaco. Claremont has the bye.
PEEL THUNDER v EAST FREMANTLE
Peel Thunder's day at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Good Friday got off to a winning start with the 25-point victory over East Fremantle.
East Fremantle started impressively with four goals to two in the opening quarter and then with two goals to each in the second term, the supremely accurate Sharks were leading the Thunder by six points.
But Peel got going in the third quarter keeping East Fremantle to just one point while booting six goals themselves.
East Fremantle did kick two goals to one in the last quarter but Peel still ended up winning by 25 points.
Tyrone Thorne, Jarrad Fazioli and Jake Howes all kicked two goals apiece for the Thunder.
Jason Carter collected 22 possessions for Peel, Jackson Perry 21, Brad Oldfield 21, James Sturrock 18, Tyson Powell 18 and Jarvis Pina 17.
Dillon O'Reilly kicked three goals for East Fremantle with Max Murphy kicking two and Trey Ruscoe two.
Corey Robinson picked up 24 possessions for the Sharks, Jeremy Sharp 22, Tom Joyce 20, Tom Monaghan 19, Trent Rivers 19 and Zac Wilkinson 18.
SUBIACO v EAST PERTH
Subiaco made a winning start against East Perth on Good Friday as well with a 73-point win in the battle of the Leederville Oval co-tenants.
Subiaco started strongly with four goals to one in the first quarter to set the stage for the rest of the game. They went on to lead by 20 points at half-time before the Lions booted seven goals to three in the third term, and then five goals to one in the last to run out 73-point winners.
There were plenty of standout performers in the big win for Subiaco with Will Hickmott finishing with 28 possessions, six marks, four tackles and two goals. Luke Foley also finished with 28 disposals, six tackles and two goals.
Zane Shellabear Healey had 23 disposals and kicked two goals for Subiaco with Jack Mayo and Taj Schofield also booting two majors as did Mitchell Georgiades, Daniel Frost and Sam West.
Liam Hickmott gathered 28 possessions as well for Subiaco and Tristan Hobley 23. Xavier Peacock finished with 12 touches and 27 hit outs, and Mach Deng 11 disposals and 22 hit outs.
Liam Martin kicked three goals from six kicks from East Perth.
Damon Greaves gathered 21 possessions for the Royals, Cooper Sparks 18, Jaxon East 17 and Harley Sparks 16.
WEST PERTH v CLAREMONT
Things got underway on Friday afternoon at HBF Arena with the colts contest that saw Claremont kick six goals to one in the last quarter to win 12.6 (78) to 8.13 (61).
West Perth's colts got going with some impressive performances through the second and third quarters to lead by 13 points at half-time and 17 points at three quarter-time.
But the Tigers got rolling in the last term to turn a 17-point deficit into a 17-point victory.
Jack Buller kicked three goals for Claremont and Tyson Smallwood two to go with 28 possessions, five marks and three tackles.
Rylie Morgan racked up 30 disposals to go with 11 marks and six tackles for the Tigers as well with Jack Monaghan contributing 17 touches, Oliver Henderson 17 and Anthony Davis 15.
Daniel Cruickshank kicked three goals from four kicks for West Perth's colts on Friday with Ben Johnson also booting two majors. Jaxon Prior was lively up forward with 15 possessions but kicked 1.5.
Nathan Murray racked up 31 possessions for the Falcons colts, Koopah Todd 26, Tom Medhat 25, Graham Richards 18, Alec Johnson 18 and Tom O'Donnell 18.
PERTH v SWAN DISTRICTS
The final game of the opening round took place at Lathlain Park with Swan Districts on top most of the way to end up beating Perth by 12 points.
Swans' colts started impressively with four goals to two in the first quarter but Perth hit back with three goals to one in the second term to be within five points at the main break.
It was another four goals to one in the third term from Swan Districts before they held on to win by 12 points despite Perth booting four goals to two in the last quarter.
Atem Deng, Jarred Cameron and Kye Barker all kicked two goals apiece for Swan Districts' colts.
Riley Garcia racked up 32 possessions for Swans, Jackson Beck 26, Mitchell Bain 25, Graydon Wilson 19 (10 tackles), Casey Vandersluys 18 and Brenton Hilton 17.
Harry Edwards was impressive in the ruck for the black-and-whites with 17 disposals, five marks, seven tackles and 17 hit outs.
Alan Narkle and Tarkyn Henry kicked two goals each for Perth.
Luke English gathered 28 possessions for the Demons, Ian Hill 23, Ethan Hansen 21, Maverick Hamilton 20, Sydney Stack 18 and Regan Clarke 18.
