Round 7 Preview – Claremont v Perth

Friday, May 18, 2018 - 6:56 PM - by Chris Pike
CLAREMONT and Perth have just the one win apiece over the opening six rounds of the 2018 WAFL season raising the stakes for their clash at Claremont Oval on Saturday. The Tigers and Demons were hoping to be big improvers in the WAFL in 2018 to try to return to being in finals contention, but for the loser of Saturday's game to fall to a 1-5 record will make it difficult for that to still be a chance of happening in an 18-game season. Both Claremont and Perth come into Saturday's clash at Claremont with 1-4 record and precious little separates them over the opening six rounds with Demons just ahead of the Tigers by just 2.49 per cent. Friday, May 18, 2018 - 6:45 PM - by Chris Pike
WEST Perth is back home to Joondalup Arena for the first time in more than a month when it hosts the struggling East Fremantle in Round 7 on Saturday. The WAFL resumes this weekend following the break for the State game and West Perth and East Fremantle couldn’t have been in more differing form prior to the general bye. West Perth might have lost its last game to Subiaco, but the 22-point defeat marked by far the best performance any side has been able to produce against the Lions this season and the Falcons even managed to lead for the majority of the opening half. Good for Footy raffle returns in 2018

Wednesday, May 16, 2018 - 3:50 PM
The Good for Footy Raffle is back bigger than ever in 2018, and this year we're aiming for another record-breaking season. Last year, nationally 418 grassroots clubs raised a huge $682k, that they used to upgrade facilities, buy new equipment and subsidise playing fees, to make the game of footy a little more accessible for all. This year we are hoping to raise over $720,000 and getting more than 436 clubs involved. To achieve this, we’re looking to recruit new clubs and ensure that clubs that have participated previously are part of the action again this year. Read More ...

State Game Match Report – WAFL v SANFL

Saturday, May 12, 2018 - 2:53 PM - by Chris Pike
SCINTILLATING second and fourth quarters have led the KIA WAFL State Team to an inspired and drought-breaking 26-point victory over South Australia in the 2018 State Game on Saturday at Adelaide Oval.   Western Australia went into the contest on Saturday at Adelaide Oval having won the past five State matches but winning in Adelaide against the Croweaters hadn’t happened since a State of Origin victory for the Sandgropers in 1994.   WA then started slowly on Saturday going goalless in the opening quarter. But that soon changed with a scorching eight-goal performance in the second term to head into half-time with a four-goal advantage. Read More ...

Saturday, May 12, 2018 - 9:05 AM - by Chris Pike
HE has played AFL football, is a WAFL premiership captain and is one of the most decorated players in the modern era but nothing trumps leading your State into battle for Kyal Horsley and he hopes to be part of more history on Saturday in Adelaide. Horsley's resume is just remarkable with the Subiaco captain a three-time WAFL premiership player, dual flag winning skipper, two-time fairest and best winner, a 14-game AFL player at the Gold Coast Suns and a life member at the Lions with 166 games in the WAFL under his belt. Remarkably, Horsley is now in his 10th season in the WAFL and he has played in seven Grand Finals for the three premierships.  Read More ...

WAFL State Team shoots to create more history

Friday, May 11, 2018 - 12:12 PM - by Chris Pike
PRIDE in representing West Australian football was a driving force behind coach Michael Broadbridge leading the KIA WAFL State Team to a historic win in Melbourne last year and it's no different ahead of tackling South Australia in Adelaide on Saturday. Broadbridge, who had coached Claremont in the WAFL the previous three seasons, took over as coach of the WAFL State Team last year and led the Black Swans to a first ever victory against Victoria in Melbourne in 24 attempts. That was a fifth straight State Game victory as well for WA following wins against the VFL in 2013, NEAFL in 2014, SANFL in 2015 and Tasmania in 2016. Read More ...
