Round 5 Match Report – Claremont v South Fremantle

THE close game of Round 5 in the WAFL took place in Albany with South Fremantle overcoming the arm-wrestle with five goals to one in the last quarter to beat Claremont by 27 points.   It was the fifth time that a WAFL game has been held in Albany since 1989 but the first time at Centennial Stadium following the first four matches in the city were played at Collingwood Park.   An impressive crowd of 2664 people turned out to watch the most competitive match of the weekend in the WAFL too with little separating the Tigers and Bulldogs over the first three quarters. Round 5 Results

IT wasn’t a Round 5 of the 2018 WAFL season for the close contests with West Perth and Swan Districts hammering the bottom two teams of 2017 Perth and East Fremantle while South Fremantle continued its winning ways and East Perth sent another strong statement. The Round 5 action got underway on Saturday afternoon with two matches in the traditional 2.15pm timeslot and it was games to forget for the Demons and Sharks. They are attempting to improve on 2017 seasons that saw them win just three games apiece and battle it out for the wooden spoon. Kia WAFL State squad named

AN initial Kia WAFL State Squad of 33 players has been named for next month’s State Game against the South Australian National Football League in Adelaide. The game will be played at Adelaide Oval at 11.40am WA time on Saturday May 12 as a curtain-raiser to the Port Adelaide v Adelaide AFL Showdown. The game will be streamed live online through the SANFL Digital Pass and simulcast on radio in WA via Sport FM 91.3fm. Read More ...


Round 5 Match Previews

IT might only be Round 5 of the 2018 WAFL season but the stakes are heating up with Swan Districts and East Fremantle needing to bounce back on Saturday, Perth and Claremont needing improved performances and then the round concludes with East Perth playing Peel Thunder on Sunday. Round 5 of the 2018 WAFL season begins with three matches on Saturday afternoon with two of those in the traditional 2.15pm time slot. Swan Districts hosts East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval with both teams needing to bounce back after a couple of losses while Perth also plays West Perth at Lathlain Park with the Demons looking to overcome a horror recent record against the Falcons. Tigers to don special ANZAC guernsey

Claremont FC players will don a special ANZAC jumper in their Round 5 battle with South Fremantle this Saturday in Albany, part of the Tigers’ WAFL country zone. The jumper designs were created by Year 6 primary school students who were named winners of the Design-a-Jumper competition run by the West Australian Football Commission in the region. The front of the Tigers’ jumper was designed by Maggie Staude from Flinders Park Primary School. It depicts a digger standing over a grave in front of a rising sun. Claremont and South Fremantle head to Albany this Saturday for Round 5 of the WAFL with clashes also set to unfold at Lathlain Park and Steel Blue Oval. On Sunday East Perth and Peel Thunder battle it out at Leederville before the AFL Western Derby showdown at Optus Stadium. There will be heaps happening around the grounds including fun zones, pop-up food and beverage outlets and competitions for the whole family. TABtouch Team of Round 4

IT was ANZAC Round in the WAFL running from Thursday through Sunday with plenty of standout performances from individuals as Subiaco, East Perth, West Perth and South Fremantle all came away victorious. The round got underway on Thursday night at Leederville Oval with Subiaco continuing its remarkably dominant start to the season beating Claremont 20.15 (135) to 7.7 (49). Then on Saturday, East Perth beat Perth 21.10 (136) to 15.9 (99) at Lathlain Park and West Perth overcame Swan Districts 15.6 (96) to 9.11 (65) at Steel Blue Oval. Read More ...


M & J Chickens Player of Round 4

THE M & J Chickens Player of Round 4 is prolific West Perth ball winner Shane Nelson for yet another dominant performance in the Falcons midfield during Saturday's ANZAC Round victory against Swan Districts. There were plenty of impressive performance right across the ANZAC Round of WAFL action that started back on Thursday night with Subiaco beating Claremont by 86 points at Leederville Oval. Rhys Waters and Chris Phelan were among the Player of the Round contenders from Subiaco. Then on Saturday, East Perth beat Perth by 37 points at Lathlain Park with Sharrod Wellingham the standout players on the ground for the Royals with 25 possessions and three goals. Read More ...


Junior clubs win with M&J Chickens

The West Australian Football Commission is delighted to announce leading poultry supplier M&J Chickens as a supporting partner of the WAFL in season 2018. The Partnership sees junior football clubs across the State being rewarded in the WAFL broadcast’s player of the day segment, with $200 worth of chicken provided to the winning player’s junior football club of origin. Round 4 MRP update

Three reports and a melee were reviewed by the WAFL Match Review Panel this week, with Josh Deluca from Subiaco dismissed, teammate Michael Braut receiving a financial sanction and Perth's Cody Ninyette accepting a one match penalty. Deluca was reported for striking Morgan Davies, Claremont, in the 3rd quarter of the League match between Subiaco and Claremont at Leederville Oval. Based on the available evidence and a victim impact report from the Claremont Football Club, it was the view of the MRP that the contact and force was insufficient to that required to constitute a report. Round 4 Colts Wrap

SUBIACO remains undefeated and clear on top of the WAFL Colts ladder following four rounds after beating Claremont in Round 4 while Perth and Swan Districts recorded their third wins of the campaign, and South Fremantle their first. The Round 5 Colts action got underway at Leederville Oval with Subiaco continuing its impressive undefeated start with a nail-biting victory against Claremont, 13.7 (85) to 12.9 (81).
