M & J Chickens Player of Round 8

Wednesday, May 30, 2018 - 8:14 AM - by Chris Pike
GEORGE Hampson has been the barometer at East Fremantle since arriving from Subiaco in 2015 and on Saturday he just wasn’t going to let the Sharks' losing run continue as he put in a performance that made him a lock to be the M & J Chickens Player of Round 8. There were plenty of other standout performers too in some difficult conditions in Round 8 of the WAFL. Subiaco made it seven straight wins with Chris Phelan and captain Kyal Horsley outstanding. Round 8 Match Report – Perth v Subiaco

Monday, May 28, 2018 - 8:55 AM - by Chris Pike
ALL signs pointed towards Subiaco having another day out at Lathlain Park on Saturday but nobody told Perth that with the Demons pushing them all the way before the Lions prevailed to the tune of 40 points.   Subiaco had recorded such dominant wins in five of their six matches to start the 2018 WAFL season and having an average winning margin of 90 points against East Perth, South Fremantle, Swan Districts, Claremont and Peel Thunder.   Only West Perth had been able to take it right up to Subiaco with the Lions only beating the Falcons by 22 points, but after a 92-point win against Peel Thunder in Mandurah last Saturday it did appear the Demons had their work cut out. Round 8 Match Report – East Fremantle v Peel Thunder

Monday, May 28, 2018 - 8:50 AM - by Chris Pike
EAST Fremantle had to find some competitive heart and spirit against Peel Thunder at East Fremantle Oval on Saturday and the Sharks did so in spades to come away with a 24-point victory.   After a decent enough start to the 2018 WAFL season where East Fremantle had tight losses to Peel and Claremont, and a win over Perth, the Sharks fell into a deep funk with dismal losses to South Fremantle, Swan Districts, East Perth and West Perth.   Those four losses had come at an average of 76.3 points but it was worse than just that for the Sharks. They just hadn’t been competitive kicking just 30 goals from 80 inside-50 entries in those four matches while conceding 74 goals and 146 inside 50s against them. Read More ...

Round 8 Match Report – South Fremantle v Claremont

Monday, May 28, 2018 - 8:45 AM - by Chris Pike
CLAREMONT revived life back into its 2018 WAFL season with a stirring win against South Fremantle by a goal at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.   South Fremantle came into Saturday's contest having both won five straight matches this WAFL season and having won the last four against Claremont including earlier this season already in a country fixture in Albany.   Claremont came into the game with just the one win for the season and that was with the last kick of the game against East Fremantle, but the Tigers were a vastly more competitive outfit than that all suggested. Round 8 Match Report – East Perth v Swan Districts

Monday, May 28, 2018 - 8:40 AM - by Chris Pike
SWAN Districts returned to the WAFL winner's list and cemented its position in the top five with an impressive 13-point victory against East Perth at Leederville Oval on Saturday.   Swans and the Royals both came into Saturday's contest at Leederville Oval having had remarkably similar starts to the season.    East Perth was one position ahead on the ladder having beaten West Perth who Swan Districts had lost to, but aside from that both clubs had beaten East Fremantle, Peel Thunder and Perth so far in 2018 while losing to top two teams Subiaco and South Fremantle. Round 8 Match Reports

Monday, May 28, 2018 - 7:29 AM - by Chris Pike
THE WAFL competition roared to life on Saturday with the best round of the 2018 season as Claremont upset South Fremantle, East Fremantle ended its horror losing run, Perth took it right up to Subiaco and Swan Districts were impressive beating East Perth. The lower ranked team won three of the four Round 8 WAFL matches on Saturday and even though Subiaco remained undefeated as well, Perth took it right up to the Lions and were only two points behind early in the last quarter. While there has at times been a stark gap between the top and bottom placed teams in the WAFL this season over the opening seven rounds, that certainly wasn’t the case on Saturday as the competition shone despite the bleak weather. Round 8 Preview – South Fremantle v Claremont

Friday, May 25, 2018 - 3:49 PM - by Chris Pike
THE form and position of South Fremantle and Claremont couldn’t be more contrasting entering Saturday's Round 8 WAFL battle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. South Fremantle is back home at Fremantle Community Bank Oval having won five straight matches and having not tasted defeat since its opening match of the 2018 season. That sees the Bulldogs sitting pretty in second position on the WAFL ladder with a 5-1 record following the wins against West Perth, East Fremantle, Claremont, Swan Districts and East Perth. Round 8 Preview – Perth v Subiaco

Friday, May 25, 2018 - 3:27 PM - by Chris Pike
PERTH is coming off a high after a one-point win against Claremont but the Demons have a big ask ahead hosting the rampant and undefeated Subiaco at Lathlain Park on Saturday. Subiaco has been unstoppable so far in the 2018 WAFL season with the team that has played off in the past four Grand Finals barely being challenged across their victories against East Perth, South Fremantle, Swan Districts, Claremont, West Perth and Peel Thunder. That has the Lions clear on top of the ladder after seven rounds and just about unbackable premiership favourites as they appear on track for a fourth consecutive minor premiership. Read More ...

Round 8 Preview – East Fremantle v Peel Thunder

Friday, May 25, 2018 - 3:12 PM - by Chris Pike
IF East Fremantle or Peel Thunder still want to be able to make an impact on the WAFL in 2018, then nothing short of a desperately needed four points on Saturday at East Fremantle Oval will be accepted. East Fremantle and Peel have already played once this season back in Round 1 and that was a competitive battle between two teams who had reason to hope things would have gone significantly better than they have since that afternoon in Mandurah. Peel won that game by 15 points on the back of winning the past two WAFL premierships but the Thunder have won just once in five games since meaning they can't afford another loss on Saturday. Round 8 Preview – East Perth v Swan Districts

Friday, May 25, 2018 - 2:45 PM - by Chris Pike
EAST Perth and Swan Districts meet in what could very well be a season-defining battle for both at Leederville Oval in Round 8 of the WAFL season on Saturday. Swan Districts are back in action for the first time in three weeks while East Perth is looking to respond to its first defeat since Round 1 setting the stage for a terrific contest at Leederville Oval on Saturday. The Royals enter the game in fourth position with a 4-2 record while Swans are fifth at 3-3 and the difference for both teams between a win and loss is significant. Read More ...
