ADAM Pickering will be excused for having a couple of think-twice moments this Saturday at Leederville Oval as he leads Swan Districts into battle against East Perth, but the Swans coach is only focused on what could be a season-defining win. Pickering will coach Swan Districts up against East Perth for the first time this Saturday in Round 8 of the WAFL and it will certainly lead to the odd strange moment at Leederville Oval for him. Aside from a couple of years at Perth, Pickering has made Leederville Oval virtually his second home ever since arriving in Western Australia back in 2004 to begin his WAFL playing career with East Perth following time in the AFL at both Richmond and Carlton. Round 8 Match Previews

ROUND 8 of the WAFL gets underway with East Perth and Swan Districts battling over cementing a position inside the top five while East Fremantle and Peel Thunder desperately need four points and then Subiaco and South Fremantle look to keep winning against Perth and Claremont respectively. All four matches in Round 8 of the 2018 WAFL season take place on Saturday afternoon beginning at Leederville Oval at 1.40pm with East Perth playing Swan Districts. The Royals enter the game in fourth position with a 4-2 record while Swan Districts is fifth at 3-3 heightening the importance of the contest with both teams coming off losses at the hands of South Fremantle. Around the Grounds Round 8

Round 8 of the WAFL kicks off this Saturday at Leederville Oval where East Perth take on Swan Districts in what's expected to be a very close contest. In Fremantle we see East Fremantle clash with Peel Thunder, while their Port rivals South Fremantle host Claremont. North of the river we see Perth and Subiaco battle it out at Lathlain Park.  There will be heaps happening around the grounds including fun zones, pop-up food and beverage outlets, competitions for the whole family and don't forget to cheer on the Movie Masters Little Leaguers who play at half-time at all matches.  Check out what you can get involved in at the footy this weekend! Footy writing competition winners announced

The annual WA Football Commission (WAFC) Footy Writing Competition sparked tremendous interest in schools across the State in Term One. BIG Round 7 WAFL wins for Subiaco, South Fremantle and West Perth saw plenty of players in fine form for the top three teams while Perth's one-point win against Claremont saw a host of others put up their hands for the TABtouch Team of the Round. All four WAFL Round 7 fixtures took place on Saturday afternoon and it saw the top three teams, Subiaco, South Fremantle and West Perth, make quite the statement. M & J Chickens Player of Round 7

SUBIACO, South Fremantle and Perth also had impressive Round 7 WAFL victories with some standout performers, but you couldn't go past West Perth gun Andrew Strijk for the M & J Chickens Player of the Round following his career-best outing for the Falcons. The WAFL resumed on Saturday following the State game victory over South Australia and it saw big wins in Round 7 for Subiaco against Peel Thunder by 92 points, South Fremantle over East Perth by 68 points and West Perth against East Fremantle by 88 points. IT was a round of thrillers in the WAFL Colts with Peel Thunder, Claremont and East Fremantle coming away with wins by four points or fewer with South Fremantle also defeating East Perth. The round got underway in the colts at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday with Peel Thunder winning a thriller over Subiaco, prevailing 11.4 (70) to 9.12 (66). Round 7 Match Report – Peel Thunder v Subiaco

SUBIACO made quite the statement at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday in the first WAFL Grand Final rematch of 2018 with the Lions thrashing Peel Thunder by 92 points.   The WAFL resumed on Saturday following the break for the State game the previous week that saw the KIA WAFL State Team defeat the SANFL by 26 points at Adelaide Oval with Western Australia beating South Australia for the first time since 1994 in Adelaide.   There couldn’t be a better way for the season to resume with the first Grand Final rematch of the season with Peel and Subiaco meeting for the first time in 2018 since playing one another in each of the previous two premiership deciders. Round 7 Match Report – East Perth v South Fremantle

EAST Perth and South Fremantle put their respective four-match winning streaks on the line at Leederville Oval on Saturday and it was the Bulldogs who made quite the impressive statement kicking 12 of the last 13 goals to win by 68 points.   Prior to last week's State game that saw the KIA WAFL State Team head to Adelaide Oval and defeat the SANFL by 26 points for WA's first win in Adelaide since 1994, both East Perth and South Fremantle were in tremendous form.   The Royals and Bulldogs both lost their opening games of 2018 to Subiaco but had gone on to win four straight matches following that heading into the break for the State game. WEST Perth ensured East Fremantle's miseries continued at Joondalup Arena on Saturday with Andrew Strijk delivering a career-best performance as the Falcons hammered the hapless Sharks by 88 points.   The WAFL resumed on Saturday following the State game break which saw Western Australia beat South Australia in Adelaide for the first time in 24 years.   The Falcons had been in good form prior to the break winning two consecutive matches and then putting in the most competitive showing anyone has managed against Subiaco to date so they had every reason to be confident ahead of hosting the Sharks. CLAREMONT hosted Perth at Claremont Oval on Saturday with both teams desperate for their second wins of the season, and that determination was on show with the Demons coming away with the one-point win on the back of the last five scoring shots of the contest.   Claremont and Perth have both had disappointing starts to the 2018 season coming into the game on Saturday at Claremont Oval as the WAFL resumed from the State game break where Western Australia beat South Australia in Adelaide.   With both sitting on 1-4 records, it shaped as a potentially season-defining contest and that's the way it panned out with the Tigers and Demons throwing everything at claiming the crucial four points.
