Anzac Day WAFL Results

Saturday, April 25, 2015 - 10:49 PM - by Chris Pike
EAST Perth needed to find goals from somewhere on Anzac Day against Perth at Lathlain Park but not even coach Brian Dawson would have been expecting seven of them from reliable defender Kyle Anderson in the 103-point win. With West Coast short on defenders in the AFL, the Eagles are looking for readymade replacements from East Perth and that meant that Callum Sinclair, Dylan Main, Paddy Brophy and Tom Barrass all played in the Royals' back-line against Perth on Anzac Day. Then with Josh Smith, Murray Newman and Josh Hill not there in East Perth's forward-line either, it was time to try something new for Dawson and his answer was to blood debutants Rowen Powell and Shayne Hille, and then surprisingly to throw his best defender Anderson to full-forward. Thunder look to make history on Sunday against Tigers

Saturday, April 25, 2015 - 12:01 PM - by Chris Pike
PEEL Thunder has a chance to make history by winning four straight matches for the first time ever and potentially jumping to the top of the WAFL, but coach Cam Shepherd isn’t taking Kepler Bradley and the winless Tigers lightly on Sunday at Bendigo Bank Stadium. Peel lost its first game of the season narrowly to West Perth at HBF Arena but has since recorded impressive wins over East Fremantle, Perth and East Perth to be on a three-game winning streak for just the third time in the club's history and first since 2009. The Thunder have never recorded four consecutive wins since entering the WAFL in 1997 nor have they ever sat on top of the ladder but both those things could change when they host the winless Claremont at Mandurah's Bendigo Bank Stadium in a standalone Anzac Round clash on Sunday. Perth get reward for effort but now focus on Anzac Day

Friday, April 24, 2015 - 3:20 PM - by Chris Pike
PERTH finally got its first win on the board in almost 12 months last Saturday and now Demons coach Earl Spalding has his team primed to try and make it two in-a-row with a group of youngsters finding their feet and new arrivals fitting in nicely at their new home. Spalding never hid from the fact that taking over as coach of Perth at the end of a 2014 season that saw the Demons finish with the wooden spoon and on a 14-game losing streak was never going to be easy, and his job was to virtually build the club from scratch at league level. When he also took charge of a team that lost a host of its best and most experienced players including Paul Bevan, Cale Morton, Jared Risol, Nick Kane, Haydn Busher and Gerald Ugle, his job got that little bit harder. Round 5 WAFL Results

Sunday, April 19, 2015 - 1:53 PM - by Chris Pike
IT WAS a time for statements in Round 5 of the WAFL on Saturday with Subiaco, East Fremantle and Peel Thunder all sending a message that they mean business with big road victories while Perth finally broke its losing run. It wasn’t a day for the home teams on Saturday with all four away sides recording victories and it was the reigning premiers and losing preliminary finalists from last year who perhaps sent the biggest message with big wins over opponents who had been in good form so far this year. Reigning premiers Subiaco hammered South Fremantle at Fremantle Oval winning 24.13 (157) to 10.8 (68) while East Fremantle proved too good for Swan Districts winning 16.7 (103) to 10.12 (72) at Steel Blue Oval. Peel Thunder then also won its third straight match to move into second position on the ladder beating East Perth 9.16 (70) to 7.5 (47) at Medibank Stadium and then Perth won the battle of winless teams downing Claremont 11.9 (75) to 10.6 (66) at the Claremont Showground.
