WESTERN Australia has won its second game of the 2016 NAB AFL 18s Championships holding off a fast finishing Allies team to win by 17 points at Domain Stadium on Saturday.
The WA State 18s team opened the championships with an impressive 61-point win over Victoria Country at Domain Stadium before suffering a 37-point defeat at the hands of South Australia last Sunday at AAMI Stadium.
WA bounced back strongly on Saturday back on home turf beating the Allies 10.9 (69) to 7.10 (52) on the back of kicking six goals to two in the first half, and another three to two in the third.
The Allies finished the game strongly with the opening three goals of the fourth quarter but it didn’t stop the WA team still winning by 17 points.
Perth's Zac Fisher was the outstanding player of the game finishing with 30 possessions, six tackles, four clearances, four inside-50 entries and a goal.
Sam Petrevski-Seton made his first appearance of the championships and was impressive for WA with 19 disposals, seven tackles and three clearances.
West Perth's Liam Baker also finished with 19 possessions, five inside-50 entries, four clearances and three rebounds from the defensive 50 in an impressive performance.
South Fremantle's Tim English worked hard in the ruck for 12 disposals and 13 hit outs.
Claremont's Matt Guelfi was another strong contributor for WA ending the game with 18 touches, seven tackles, six marks, five clearances and five inside 50s.
South Fremantle's Shai Bolton finished with 16 possessions, West Perth's Josh Rotham 15 and Perth's Quinton Narkle 13 to go with four tackles and two clearances.
East Perth's Stan Wright and Claremont's Jake Waterman booted two goals apiece.
Todd Marshall kicked two goals for the Allies while Kobe Mutch gathered 19 possessions, Brad Scheer 17, Declan Watson 17, Jack Rolls 16 and Harrison Macreadie 15.
WA kicked the opening goal of the game and it was through the player who would become best afield, Fisher, eight minutes into the contest.
The Allies responded three minutes later courtesy of Marshall before WA answered with the next two goals from Brandon Starcevich and Sam Powell-Pepper to lead by 14 points at quarter-time.
The Allies managed to boot the first goal of the second term from Mitch Maguire but again the Black Swans responded with the next three thanks to Waterman, Bolton and Guelfi to head into the main break with a comfortable 25-point advantage.
The visitors sparked to life after the break with the opening two majors of the third term from Marshall and Zac Sproule to cut the margin to just 13 points.
But the home team continued to have the answers with a steadying goal to Wright and then two more from Waterman and Baker prior to three quarter-time to be in control by 32 points.
The Allies wouldn’t go away and kicked the first three goals of the final term through Jacob Allison, Jamie Hampton and Ben Davis to get within 12 points, but Wright's second proved to be the sealer for WA and they went on to win by 17 points.
WA's next game will take place against Victoria Metro at Geelong's Simonds Stadium on Wednesday June 29.
