Ellenbrook Secondary College came out winners of the 2017 West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) Champions League competition, a 16-a-side pre-season school and community football tournament held over March. 10 teams and a total 200 participants aged 16 and 17 years took part in the four-week competition, which concluded with a thrilling Grand Final tri-series between Ellenbrook Secondary College, Governor Stirling Senior High School and Hills Rangers JFC at Noranda Lightning Park. SUBIACO and West Perth games rarely fail to deliver and Saturday's clash at HBF Arena was another tight affair with Ben Sokol proving the difference as the Lions won by 11 points. West Perth finished the first half on fire with five goals in 11 minutes to lead by eight points at the main break. But Sokol caught fire kicking four goals to start the third term to put the Lions on top and that was enough to set up the eventual 13.9 (87) to 11.10 (76) victory. Read More ...

SOUTH Fremantle bounced back from a loss last week to end the winning run of reigning premiers Peel Thunder with an impressive 43-point win at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday. Peel came into the game having not lost since Round 22 last year. The Thunder went on to win the last five games of 2016 on the way to a maiden premiership before impressive wins to start 2017 against East Perth and East Fremantle. SWAN Districts came from behind to continue its undefeated start to the 2017 WAFL season beating East Perth by 10 points at Leederville Oval on Saturday. Swans won just two games in all of 2016 on the way to the wooden spoon. They have now already bettered that in 2017 following Saturday's 11.7 (73) to 9.9 (63) victory over the Royals. CLAREMONT continued its impressive start to the 2017 WAFL season under new coach Darren Harris beating Perth by 59 points at Lathlain Park on Saturday. It was a big day for Perth playing its first home game at Lathlain Park for 2017 and on the new playing surface with the on-going redevelopment taking place at the venue. There was plenty of excitement surrounding their first appearance at home but Claremont was out to spoil that party and did so in emphatic fashion running out 22.15 (147) to 13.10 (88) winners. IT was a day not to be the home teams in Round 3 of the WAFL on Saturday with Claremont, South Fremantle, Subiaco and Swan Districts all scoring strong road victories. The full round of action on Saturday took place on Saturday starting at Lathlain Park with Claremont delivering its second commanding performance of the season under new coach Darren Harris.  The Tigers beat Perth 22.15 (147) to 13.10 (88). WEST Perth and Subiaco matches rarely disappoint and this Saturday's clash at HBF Arena looks to be another cracker as the Falcons and Lions look to make an early season statement. There's never any shortage of feeling in clashes between West Perth and Subiaco and even going back to the last meeting of 2017 at Kingsway, both teams will still have some feelings remaining over from that spirited contest. PEEL Thunder is the hottest team in the WAFL continuing its momentum from last year's finals series but South Fremantle will be looking to get back to its form of Round 1 quickly. Peel won last year's premiership on the back of winning in the last round of the home and away season and then all four finals. EAST Perth has played finals for five straight years but losing the first three games of 2017 could make that difficult to again achieve adding extra significance to the Royals' clash with Swan Districts. East Perth will be taking on an undefeated Swan Districts on Saturday at Leederville Oval. PERTH plays its first game at the redeveloping Lathlain Park for 2017 hosting Claremont on Saturday with the Demons hunting their first win and the Tigers looking to continue their good start. While the building around Lathlain Park will be continuing throughout 2017, the new surface is now all ready to go in time for the Demons to host the Tigers this Saturday afternoon. ROUND 3 of the 2017 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season sees all four matches take place on Saturday afternoon with West Perth, Swan Districts and Peel Thunder looking to remain undefeated and East Perth and Perth searching for their first victories. The reigning premier Thunder have put together two outstanding performances to start their flag defence which they will look to continue while Swans will be looking for a third straight victory and the Falcons a second straight.
