Round 17 Colts Wrap

SUBIACO and Peel Thunder held on to its top two positions in the WAFL Colts with Round 17 wins on Saturday while Swan Districts replaced East Fremantle in third and Perth stayed right in finals contention with a thrilling win against East Perth. Round 17 in the colts began with two games on Saturday morning with Subiaco retaining its hold on top spot with a hard fought 9.9 (63) to 7.8 (50) victory against Claremont at Claremont Oval. The other Saturday morning contest saw Swan Districts leapfrog East Fremantle back into the third position on the ladder with an 8.9 (57) to 6.9 (45) win at East Fremantle Oval. Read More ...


Mater Dei College take out Dockers Cup Moore Division

Mater Dei College has won the Fremantle Dockers Cup Moore Division for the first time ever, defeating John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School by 15 points in the Grand Final at Optus Stadium on Sunday July 29. Emily Bennett, pictured, was named the best player for the winning side and JSR presented their award to Violet Bartell. WA goes down in narrow defeat

WA Country's New Holland State side went down in a narrow five-point defeat to the South Australian Country side at Adelaide Oval on Saturday July 28. WA veteran Rory O'Brien (Pinjarra) used his experience to slot the first two majors for his side to settle the players nerves in the opening term of the interstate clash. Liam McKenna (South Bunbury) and Robert Forrest (Federals) also had solid starts while Alex Moreno (Federals) was dominant in the back against some dangerous forwards.  Read More ...

Round 17 Match Reports

THERE were two remarkable thrillers in Round 17 of the WAFL on Saturday with East Perth co-captain Kyle Anderson winning the game for the Royals over the Demons after the siren while Subiaco survived quite the fight from Claremont to remain undefeated in 2018. It was one hell of a finish at Leederville Oval between East Perth and Perth as the two teams fight it out for a finals position heading towards the end of the 2018 home and away season. Western Derby medal re-named

The medal awarded to the best player in AFL Western Derbies has been renamed the Glendinning-Allan Medal. The new medal name acknowledging the inaugural captains of the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Football Club, Ross Glendinning and Ben Allan, has been endorsed by both clubs and the West Australian Football Commission. WITH Claremont trying to take the challenge up to Subiaco, West Perth needing to respond to a challenging week off-field and Swan Districts and East Fremantle trying to end six-game losing streaks, they are just some of the things to look out for in Round 17 of the 2018 WAFL season. There is plenty to look out for in Round 17 of the WAFL with Subiaco out to stay unbeaten, West Perth to remain second and Perth to take another step towards ending its 21-year finals drought. Claremont then has to find a way to upset Subiaco to remain in the top five while Peel Thunder, East Perth and Swan Districts try to stay in the finals hunt and East Fremantle tries to win its third match for the season and end a six-game losing slide. Mater Dei College claim Jackovich Division Schoolboys Cup

Mater Dei College have taken out the Senior Schoolboys Cup Jackovich Division Grand Final in what was a hard-fought, wet-weather affair against Comet Bay College on Wednesday, July 25, at McGillivray Reserve. Mater Dei College claimed a 3.3 (21) - 1.4 (10) victory over Comet Bay in the Grand Final which culimnates a season of school football for Year 11 and 12 boys and the Jackovich Division. WA Football Commission to support West Perth playing on in 2018

The WA Football Commission is providing support to enable the West Perth Football Club to play on for the remainder of the 2018 WAFL season after it entered Voluntary Administration this week. The WAFC is providing a $250,000 loan to Korda Mentha, the Administrator which will manage West Perth during the Voluntary Administration process. The loaned funds will be quarantined to support West Perth players and staff at all levels to enable their ongoing participation in the 2018 WAFL Premiership Season. The funds will not be used to pay down West Perth’s existing debts. Read More ...


M & J Chickens Player of Round 16

CAPTAINCY sure seems to agree with Aaron Black with the first-year West Perth skipper having every bit as good a season in 2018 as at any point in his career and that continued on Saturday with him named M & J Chickens Player of the Round as a result. It was a dominant performance by West Perth on Saturday at Joondalup Arena hammering Swan Districts by 90 points to replace South Fremantle in second position on the WAFL ladder as a result. There were starring performances from West Perth players all over the field including Blake Wilhelm off half-back, Shane Nelson, Luke Meadows and Trent Manzone through the middle, and then Tyler Keitel, Andrew Strijk and Jordan Mills up forward. TABtouch Team of Round 16

IT was tough conditions on Saturday for Round 16 of the WAFL but with the unbeaten league-leading Subiaco having the bye, it was a chance for statements to be made and West Perth and Perth certainly did that while Claremont and Peel Thunder also scored crucial wins. With Subiaco sitting out the Round 16 proceedings unbeaten atop the WAFL with a perfect 13-0 record, it was a chance for the rest of the league to make their mark and West Perth did so by moving up to second position with Perth further closing in on a first finals appearance since 1997. All four Round 16 matches took place on Saturday afternoon at 2.15pm with Peel Thunder beating South Fremantle 13.12 (90) to 9.12 (66) at Bendigo Bank Stadium with Harley Bennell, Mitch Crowden, Ben Howlett, Gerald Ugle and Brayden Lawler among their standout performers. New Holland State Country Team to take on South Australia

The New Holland State Country 22-man squad has been finalised ahead of their interstate clash with the South Australian Football League this Saturday, July 28, at Adelaide Oval. The squad includes former AFL duo Josh Bootsma and Jesse Crichton, who were both impressive in this year’s Landmark Country Championships, with Crichton receiving best on ground honours in the Grand Final.
