Harding wants Swans to go deep into finals

Thursday, August 21, 2014 - 5:50 PM - by Chris Pike
SWAN Districts coach Greg Harding does not want the black-and-whites to just limp into the finals and make up the numbers in 2014 meaning that his team must bounce back and return to form this Saturday against East Fremantle. Swan Districts is guaranteed of playing finals in 2014 largely thanks to an eight-game winning run between Rounds 3 and 10, but Swans have now lost three straight matches in disappointing fashion to South Fremantle, East Perth and West Perth. Swans have lost six of their last 10 matches to only just be clinging to third position on the ladder no longer having any chance of making the top-two and desperately trying to avoid slipping to fourth and missing out on a home first semi-final. THE South Fremantle Football Club has announced the appointment of Todd Curley as its new senior coach for at least the next two WAFL seasons. The South Fremantle Football Club and current senior coach Paul Hasleby both decided that he would not be seeking a renewal of his contract once the 2014 season expires and that opened the door for the Bulldogs to search for the best candidates to fill the chair for 2015 and beyond. After an extensive nation-wide search and with the coaching selection panel headed up by South Fremantle great and West Coast Eagles premiership captain and coach John Worsfold, and dual South Fremantle premiership player and premiership captain David Gault, Curley was appointed to lead the Bulldogs back to glory and to finals for the first time since 2011. West Perth stars Hunt and Tsalikis to retire at season's end

Friday, August 15, 2014 - 5:03 PM - by Chris Pike
THE West Perth Football Club will lose two of its very best players at either end of the ground to retirement at the end of the 2014 WAFL season with Anthony Tsalikis and Dan Hunt calling time on their outstanding careers with the Falcons. Tsalikis and Hunt have been mainstays of the West Perth line-up for the past 10 years now with both passing the 150-game barrier to become life members of the club and holding down crucial roles at either end of the ground. Tsalikis will finish his career as West Perth's third largest goalscorer with him leading the club's goalkicking tally five times and while Hunt might have kicked just two goals in a decade, he has been outstanding in key defensive roles and continues to be one of the best defenders in the WAFL. Positional Coaching - Full Back

Thursday, August 14, 2014 - 11:32 AM - by Kris Pendlebury
Full back has traditionally been a purely defensive role, with the aim of stopping the full forward from getting the ball and scoring. The defensive aspect of the position remains important with the ability to accelerate and change direction quickly. Spoiling the ball is also of utmost importance. The full back is often the player that kicks the ball back into play after a point has been kicked. Read More ...
