Match Reports - TABtouch Semi Finals

Monday, September 10, 2018 - 8:15 AM - by Chris Pike
SUBIACO went ever so close to having all three grades straight into the 2018 WAFL Grand Finals on Sunday but its reserves were overrun by East Perth as the Lions' league and colts teams advanced and West Perth set up a preliminary final with South Fremantle in the process. Subiaco's colts, reserves and league teams all finished as minor premiers for 2018 earning the right to hose three second semi-final match ups at Leederville Oval on Sunday. The day began well for the Lions with the colts beating Swan Districts and then the reserves kicked the first eight goals against East Perth. But remarkably the Royals stormed home to overrun the Lions and score a dramatic win to book a place straight in the Grand Final. Read More ...

First Semi-Final Preview – West Perth v Claremont

Sunday, September 9, 2018 - 1:05 AM - by Chris Pike
WEST Perth and Claremont fight for survival in Sunday's first semi-final at Joondalup Arena on Sunday and given the recent history of nail-biters between the two teams of late, expect no different this time around. The Falcons and Tigers remarkably have only been separated by an average of 10 points throughout their last 17 meetings and now in a cut-throat first semi-final on Sunday, things go up another level between two teams that seem to bring the best out of one another. The game will take place on a hectic Sunday at the Joondalup venue as well with the Perth Wildcats playing the Adelaide 36ers in an NBL pre-season fixture at HBF Arena's new basketball stadium as part of the redevelopment at Joondalup Arena. Sunday, September 9, 2018 - 12:00 AM - by Chris Pike
SUBIACO has dominated the WAFL this season with a remarkable undefeated campaign but with South Fremantle having also had two years of finals disappointments and on their own winning run now the stage is set for a cracking second semi-final. Subiaco and South Fremantle do battle on Sunday afternoon at Leederville Oval in the second semi-final with the winner to advance to the 2018 Grand Final at Optus Stadium in two weeks' time. There will be a second chance for the loser who will go on to host the preliminary final next Sunday too against the winner of Sunday's first semi-final between West Perth and Claremont, but neither the Lions or Bulldogs will be thinking about that heading into the second semi-final. Ex-Bulldog Sokol ready to roar with Lions flag in sight

Saturday, September 8, 2018 - 11:15 AM - by Chris Pike
AFTER not cementing a league spot at South Fremantle, Ben Sokol has made the Bulldogs pay in five games since for Subiaco but the bigger picture heading into another battle is on the premiership at stake in two weeks' time. Sokol came through the ranks at South Fremantle an exciting talent at colts level, played State 18s and then looked set to make a successful league career for himself at the Bulldogs but it just never quite happened. The dangerous forward only managed 11 games across the 2014 and 2015 seasons with South Fremantle at league level despite kicking 39 goals as part of a reserves premiership winning team in 2015. Hamp hopes to usher in new successful Tigers era

Saturday, September 8, 2018 - 9:45 AM - by Chris Pike
ANTON Hamp couldn’t quite play in a Claremont premiership as a young forward but he's now leader of the Tigers back-line, has claims to be the best WAFL key defender and hopes to help usher in a new era of success at the Tigers. Hamp was in the early stages of his career playing as a forward in Claremont's last era of WAFL dominance which saw the Tigers win four successive minor premierships between 2010 and 2013 which resulted in three Grand Final appearances and two premierships. He did manage to play 14 games for 17 goals across Claremont's premiership years of 2011 and 2012, but couldn’t manage a finals appearance at league level despite playing in two reserves flags. Monaghan guarantees a significantly better West Perth

Saturday, September 8, 2018 - 8:53 AM - by Chris Pike
WEST Perth's opening to the finals for 2018 couldn’t have started much worse but with a proud playing group at his disposal, coach Bill Monaghan is confident of a strong response this Sunday in the elimination final against Claremont. West Perth might have lost its past eight matches against South Fremantle heading into last Saturday's qualifying final at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, but after two losses by only a combined 13 points this season, the Falcons had good reason to go into the game confident. West Perth started reasonably well too and were only five points down when Tyler Keitel goaled at the 10-minute of the second quarter. Read More ...

Suban hopes to add premiership touch to Bulldogs

Thursday, September 6, 2018 - 6:05 PM - by Chris Pike
While there's no doubt with the form Nick Suban is in he could still be playing in the AFL, Suban's focus right now is on helping bring back a premiership to the Bulldogs. Suban was surprisingly delisted by Fremantle at the end of 2017 to bring an end to his 156-game career with the Dockers that saw him be a mainstay of the AFL line-up the majority of his tenure including playing in the 2013 AFL Grand Final. The fact he was delisted was somewhat a surprise considering he did play the last 10 games of the season with the Dockers at AFL level in 2017 and was still performing at a good enough level to deserve another contract.
