Bolton refocuses goals after dream three years at Claremont

Wednesday, September 19, 2018 - 11:22 AM - by Chris Pike
WITH two Sandover Medals and two Simpson Medals in his three WAFL seasons with Claremont, Jye Bolton would love for another AFL opportunity but should that not eventuate it's team success now at the Tigers that will be his focus in 2019. Three years ago, Bolton received some advice from people he trusted that the WA style of football might suit him perfectly and if he wanted to get another chance in the AFL system after spending time at Collingwood, that might be his best bet. It's fair to say the three years couldn’t have turned out better for the now 26-year-old with him backing up winning the Sandover and Simpson Medals in 2016 by doing the same in 2018 in what without question has been a superior season. THE WAFL has a dual Sandover Medal winner for the first time in 14 years with gun Claremont midfielder Jye Bolton winning for a second time in three years during a glittering Monday evening at Optus Stadium. Bolton finished the 2018 Sandover Medal vote count on 52 votes to win ahead of Subiaco captain Kyal Horsley with the two gun on-ballers going neck and neck most of the night. Bolton started on fire polling in each of Claremont's opening nine matches, including best on ground showings in Rounds 5 and 10. That saw him rack up 32 votes by Round 10 but Horsley was keeping pace. Read More ...

Main and Black were appointed as the new captains at the Bulldogs and Falcons respectively in 2018 and both under similar circumstances with the former skippers continuing on playing, but standing down as skipper. Ryan Cook had been captain at South Fremantle since 2012 and by leading the Bulldogs into battle for 117 matches, he became the longest-serving skipper in the history of the club.  Read More ...

Meadows not afraid to aim for Falcons premiership

Saturday, September 15, 2018 - 8:44 AM - by Chris Pike
WEST Perth has overcome plenty on and off the field in 2018 to now be one win from a Grand Final appearance and tough and damaging midfielder Luke Meadows sees no reason the Falcons can't still go all the way. West Perth came into the season after being losing to Swan Districts in last year's elimination final losing key position players Nick Rodda and Scott Simpson with apparently little in the way of new arrivals. Then early in Round 4 the Falcons lost the inspirational Kody Manning for the season with a knee injury and then of course more recently has been the off-field financial problems that threatened the club's future. Cook desperate for Bulldogs to reach Grand Final

Friday, September 14, 2018 - 2:40 PM - by Chris Pike
VERY few people have made the move west and made such a lasting impact at South Fremantle than the club's longest-serving skipper Ryan Cook and now he's desperate to win in a third straight preliminary final to reach the Grand Final. Cook decided to make the move to Western Australia and join South Fremantle back ahead of the 2011 season following his four-year stint in the AFL with Collingwood where he played 14 matches and was a strong performer at VFL level. He had no possible idea that he would end up wanting to call Perth home now even beyond his playing career, but the mark he has made at the Bulldogs has seen him achieve everything now except play in a Grand Final and win a premiership.
