THERE might have been just the two matches in Round 15 of the WAFL season but with all four teams trying to stay in the final hunt, it proved a season-defining one with wins in the finish for Peel Thunder and West Perth. The four teams who were in action as part of Round 15 of the 2019 Optus WAFL Premiership Season all still had hopes of breaking into the top five so there was plenty at stake in the two match ups on Saturday afternoon. Round 15 Colts Wrap

THE 2019 WAFL Colts season significantly tightened up on Saturday with Peel Thunder's six-game winning run coming to an end while Claremont continued its charge with a big win in Albany while East Perth closed in on third position as well. There were three games that took place in the WAFL Colts competition on Saturday and each of them had a significant impact on positions inside the top five as the race for finals positions heats up. The first two games took place on Saturday morning with East Fremantle causing the upset to keep their slim finals hopes alive beating the ladder-topping Peel Thunder 10.9 (69) to 8.9 (57) at East Fremantle's New Choice Homes Park. WAFLW State Team fight to the finish against Queensland

The WAFL Women's State Team was defeated by 26 points by a talent-laden Queensland team in a hard-fought contest at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday, July 20. The WAFLW team took an early lead with Emily McGuire kicking her first of two goals for the afternoon. Queensland, which had 14 AFLW listed players from the Gold Coast Suns Academy, hit back in the second and third quarters before stretching their lead in the fourth to run out winners 6.10 (46) to 3.2 (20). Optus WAFL Round 15 Wrap

THERE were just the two games in Round 15 of the WAFL on Saturday but it proved to be two crucial victories for West Perth and Peel Thunder as they continue to battle over a finals position in 2019. With the top five teams on the ladder Subiaco, Claremont, South Fremantle, Perth and the West Coast Eagles all having a bye in Round 15 along with the bottom place Swan Districts, it was a chance for four of the teams all locked in a fight over fifth position to lock horns. WAFL Milestone | Shane Nelson 150 Games

IT is tough to think of a better or more consistent WAFL player over the last decade than West Perth's triple fairest and best winner Shane Nelson and while he is proud to earn life membership at the Falcons, the drive to win a second premiership trumps everything. He has never been the biggest, strongest, fastest or most skilful out on any WAFL field he has graced, but Nelson could very claim to be the best as West Perth prepares to celebrate his 150th appearance with the Falcons this Saturday in a must-win derby against East Perth at HBF Arena. Ever since he made his league debut back in Round 7. 2012, Nelson has never looked back and it was a career that came on the back of always dreaming of playing for West Perth, coming through the development squad and colts ranks, and then banging down the door for a crack at league level. Round 15 Optus WAFL Preview

THERE are just the two matches in Round 15 of the WAFL but both matches feature four of the teams trying to keep their seasons alive in the race for fifth position. The top four spots at the of Round 14 do appear relatively locked away with Subiaco three games and percentage clear in first position while Claremont is a further game and percentage in front of both South Fremantle and Perth who sit on 8-5 records. ROUND 14 in the Simply Energy WAFL Colts saw Peel Thunder maintain its gap on top of the ladder with a one-point win over East Perth while Claremont continued its strong recent form and there were wins also for East Fremantle and Perth. Round 14 in the colts competition got underway with a double-header on Friday afternoon and evening at Leederville Oval. ROUND 10 in the WAFLW competition saw wins for Subiaco and Claremont across the weekend as the two sides move a game clear each in the top two positions as the league heads into a general bye. There were two matches in Round 10 of the 2019 Optus WAFLW Premiership Season and that saw the action get underway on Saturday afternoon at Claremont Oval with Claremont winning a thriller 4.5 (29) to 4.3 (27) against East Fremantle. ROUND 14 of the 2019 Optus WAFL Premiership Season always promised to be season-defining and it proved the case with Subiaco all but securing top spot, Perth going a long way to securing a finals berth and the West Coast Eagles storming into fifth position. Round 14 in the WAFL got underway on Saturday afternoon starting with East Fremantle keeping its slim finals hopes alive and ending a three-game losing run to beat Swan Districts 8.11 (59) to 3.12 (30) at East Fremantle's New Choice Homes Park. The other Saturday afternoon clash saw East Perth also stay in the finals hunt with a 9.10 (64) to 6.9 (45) victory against Peel Thunder at Leederville Oval to give them consecutive wins. Optus WAFL Round 14 Wrap

THE merry go round in fifth position on the WAFL ladder continues with the West Coast Eagles improving to that spot after a fourth straight win while Subiaco went a long way to securing another minor premiership and Perth won a heartstopper to move closer to a first finals berth in 22 years. It always shaped as though it would be a season-defining Round 14 of the 2019 Optus WAFL Premiership Season with the matches spread across Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, and that's exactly how it panned out. Subiaco made it seven straight wins to be three games now on top while Perth solidified its place in the top five with a win with a goal after the siren while the West Coast Eagles made it four straight wins to leap West Perth and Peel Thunder into fifth position on the ladder. WAFL Milestone | Steven Verrier 100 Games

REACHING 100 games for South Fremantle means the world to one of the WAFL's most versatile players, but what Steve Verrier wants more than anything is to try and replicate his colts success at league level with the Bulldogs. Prior to being drafted to Richmond, Verrier was a colts premiership player at South Fremantle in 2011 and now after three years of reaching preliminary finals, that's all that is on his mind even when a significant individual milestone comes up. Having grown up dreaming of playing with South Fremantle, reaching 100 games with the Bulldogs is a massive accomplishment for Verrier who despite dealing with injuries in recent years, has proven himself one of the most effective utility players in the competition. Round 10 Optus WAFLW Preview

ROUND 10 of the WAFLW season sees the two matches for the weekend split over Saturday and Sunday afternoons with Claremont and East Fremantle battling over second spot, and Peel Thunder attempting to upset Subiaco. With the ladder so tight in the inaugural 2019 Optus WAFL Women's Premiership Season, every game is taking on extra significance with just one game separating the top four teams while it will only take a winning streak for the Thunder to close the gap as well to put themselves in the mix.
