The AFL has today announced the 2020 NAB AFL Draft will take place on Wednesday December 9 in a virtual format broadcast live on FOX FOOTY & Kayo and via the Official LIVE AFL App at 7:00pm AEDT.
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions in place across the country, the 2020 NAB AFL Draft will be conducted virtually with the ARC, powered by RMIT University to serve as the central hub, with all 18 clubs to submit draft selections via an Online Draft System within the ARC.
Draft selections will join the broadcast virtually as AFL Chief Executive Gillon McLachlan announces the selections live from the ARC at Marvel Stadium.
125 of Australia’s top junior male footballers completed the 2020 NAB AFL National Draft Combines held across multiple locations across Australia over the last few months.
Players from all states and territories were represented at the 2020 NAB AFL Draft Combines with a spread of talent across Australia including Queensland, NSW/ACT, Northern Territory and Tasmania.
AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan said the national NAB AFL Draft will showcase the best of the best from across the country and is the final stage for talent joining the elite AFL competition.
“It has been a challenging year for everyone in football and our top underage talent have shown great resilience and perseverance and we admire and appreciate the continued positivity during a difficult year for our community,” Mr Sheehan said.
“Due to varied restrictions across the country, it was great to see our leading contenders come together in smaller groups with many showing an athletic point of difference which could well help achieve their dream of getting into the AFL.”
“While the circumstances surrounding the NAB AFL Combines were unique, all players presented in top physical condition and have built strong talent profiles ahead of beginning their AFL journeys starting at December's national NAB AFL Draft."
“These young men represent the future of our game and will captivate fans across the country for years to come,” Sheehan said.
The NAB AFL Pre-Season and Rookie Draft Selection meetings will be coordinated via Microsoft Teams from the ARC at AFL House on Thursday December 10 from 12.00pm.
