WAFL Boundary Umpire, Brad Hunt, announces retirementWednesday, November 25, 2020 - 12:49 PM

Brad Hunt has announced his retirement from the WAFL Umpiring squad. 

Hunt has umpired 255 WAFL League Games over his 13 years involved the game. Of those games, Hunt umpires six WAFL Grand Finals (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018 and 2019) and six state games (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2018 and 2019).

Brad's illustrous umpiring career has earnt him the John Devine Medallist (Boundary Umpire of the Year) three times (2010, 2012, 2018) and an induction into the WANFLUA Life Member in 2018. 
Umpiring coaches and managers will miss Brad’s contribution to umpiring, but thanks him for all he has done. 

“Brad is a hard worker, setting examples for others on the track and in games. He always gives his best and asks the same of others,” Greg Gilbee, State Boundary Umpiring Coach said.

“Brad is someone who seeks continual improvement for himself and for his peers. Never one to shy away from feedback, he embraces it and applies learnings to keep moving forward.” 

“Brad is a terrific competitor who is up for any challenge. Brad communicates exceptionally well with people at all levels and this strength sees him as a go to person who can mentor and help develop others.”

“Brad has provided me with tremendous support as he understands the challenges involved in engaging people to be the best they can be.”

“Brad you have been a tremendous Umpiring advocate and Champion in our area of the game. We wish you and Kylie well in all that you do”

Dean Margetts, WAFL Umpire Manager, echoed Greg’s comments of Hunt’s work efforts and character.

“Brad Hunt has been an exceptional contributor to the Umpiring WA landscape for over 13 years,” Margetts said.

“Brad’s statistical achievements are clear for all to see and will have him placed in the highest echelon of umpires and will stand the test of time forever, but for me it’s Brad’s selfless character and his want to make our environment the best place it can be.”

“He was a leader among his peers and is respected widely among the broader football environment. Brad will be sadly missed, but there will always be place for Brad down the corridors at “EJ”."

“We wish Brad and his wife Kylie all the best in their new life down south.”
